The root of my nickname is actually Jumper... originally started using UberJumper on Mplayer, then when signing up for these forums (the UBB Version) I think Jumper was taken, so I used UberJumper here as well... and thus it began.
Über == Literally 'Over'. Also commonly used as a prefix meaning Super or 'The Best'.
Jumper == Nickname for a Paratrooper. I served with the Royal Westminster Regiment in the Jump platoon from '92 - '94. The Westies were tasked to provide an operational jump platoon to the Canadian Airborne Regiment from '92 to '94. Our unit had the tasking pulled (and changed to TOW) in '94, shortly before the CAR was disbanded.

I just like the color chrome, and IMO, quasars are the coolest of the astronomical phenomena, but Chrome Quasar sounded kind of funny, so I just decided to go with Silver Quasar. Not too much webbing into my life in that name!

My love for ion beams, with the added bonus that it translates into "God's Wrath." It was the first ion weapon ship that I saw in the demo.

Long story short..
I pissed off a teacher, and when she asked me my name, I made one up.
Murph is simply the shorter form of Murphy, my "last name".

Soulblighter was the most feared, powerful, vile, and wicked of the Fallen Lords in the game 'Myth: The Fallen Lords'. He was known for scarring his skin as an offering to the dark gods so he could live forever.
My won name is soul|FL. Took the shorter route cause everyone just calls me soul.

I liked the funky spelling of "tiger" in William Blake's poem... It was spelled "tyger" there and I took a little creative license to it and switched the E and R. My last name is Best, so what I originally did was take a word that had best in it, BEaST, and add an E so it looked like it was older english. That resulted in tygreBEaSTe.
For aesthetic value i dropped the last syllable.
Delphy
2nd Apr 02, 1:43 PM
Delphy is taken from the word Delphinidae.
n : dolphins [syn: Delphinidae, family Delphinidae]
It was "given" to me by a girl I knew years ago, (who was called Cetacea) on Freetel, and I liked it, so it stuck.
I do like Dolphins, but not too much. :)

Steel Guy
6th Apr 02, 3:11 PM
Well, I was playing Red Alert for the first time on a LAN, and I wanted an original name other then something having to do with my real name, I wanted to do Man of Steel, (which is waht 'Statan' means) but that didn't fit, so I put in Steel Man, but that was wierd and didn't roll of the tounge well, so I changed to Steel Guy. It stuck for the last 7 years...
Lucked out I guess...Manta (Ray) also know to fishermen as the Devil Fish or Devil ray....pretty cool looking animal too...yeah...
My other name (so I cant smurf with this one) is My Left Nut.
PS. Although not on HW my favorite was a guy with the name Pepsigirl on Tribes.
Excelion Prime
7th Apr 02, 2:56 AM
Long ago, when creating my first online identity, I was cycling through starship names to choose, most of which were taken at the time on another forum ie: Prometheus, Excaliber, Exeter, yada, yada.
Eventually started picking starship names from anime. Excelion is the main flagship in the anime Gunbuster. For the longest time I used Excelion when signing up for any online community, and it was my email for awhile. Then when changing from dial-up to cable, with a new service Excelion was taken.
I didn't want something lame like Excelion139 or something. Then I thought of Transformers, and how 'Prime' makes everything sound better. And that was that...
Harmanoff
7th Apr 02, 9:04 AM
There's a guy in the movie 'Kids' that is called Harmanoff. He likes to "hit on retarded bitches".
I just liked the name bacause it sounds like a vodka brand.
SoleHunter
8th Apr 02, 9:56 AM
I didn't (and still don't) know how to spell worth shiz.
I liked the Uriel model in Quake 3. I thought Soul Hunter would be a good name for him. When I realized that'd I'd mispelled it, I tried to play it off like I did in on purpose. Truely, some guy who goes around hunting for shoe soles is rather interesting, so I jsut went with it.
Vaarok

It's also my first name with -off tacked on. Very disconcerting to self.

TheGeneral
8th Apr 02, 11:32 PM
I think it was Mechwarrior 2 online, MechNet or whatever the heck it was called, that I first chose this name. I was origionally going to go with "Fezy", the name of a local oriental rug store, but it was oddly taken. Annoyed, I chose the much less inventive "TheGeneral", and to add to the oddness, the name wasn't used! After that the nick sorta stuck.
Unfortunately my nick also happens to be extremely common, and so I sometimes can be seen still borrowing the name of that carpet dealership, Fezy.
Fezy

CSR1, I DO feel free to call you crazy. Crazy, I had a similar "avatar reaction" upon opening the thread for the first time. My internal monologue went something like this: "Blast, another person has used that avatar, such a rare occurrence. Perhaps I should spam him. Perhaps I should send him rancid Spam via snail mail? No, no. Think of shoes. Yes, kill those soles. Quite refreshing. Yes, there are too, too few avatars, but we must share."
Then my an acquaintance of mine, Bob the garbage eater (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2489) said to me, "w00t!!?11!!??! h3 can't us3 th@t @v@t@r!!!111!!!1 It'$ yours, all yours!!! H3 must totally sux0r to copyz0r you like thatz0r!!!11!!1 Also, I lyk3 to 3@7 garbage, due to my above average intelligence."
Also JK.
Yea, that avatar stands out, and looks neato IMO. I've been told it was some sort of Star Trek mod or something. I picked it because I haden't seen anybody using it before. Alas, no more.
;)
