Starship Troopers mod

i know alot of people are going to say "imperial guard vs. tyranids!" but it would be cool to get an honest to goodness starship troopers mod.

you could use the imperial guard in the game already, but change their skinds just a little, and give them the berretta assault rifle instead of the lasrifle. bugs would obviously be the 2nd race, and skinnies (think tau) could be the third race.

gameplay modes would be standard base building types, search and destroy bug holes, and alamo last stands.

im really not a coder, a modeller or anything along those lines, but im juust throwing the idea out there because i feel itd be pretty freakin cool.

Baron, PLEASE do yourself a favor and read a book by Robert A. Heinlein. It's entitled "Starship Troopers." TRUST ME, It's a whole lot better than the movie. Don't worry, it's actually quite short, and a really quick read.

oh, Make New Troopers, reskinning would be gay. remeber, DOW Wont have room for crappy skins, as Zoom ins come Up close and personal like.

Also, they had Light Rifles AND Moritas so yeah, the Lasgun may do well for first release... atleast. Hrmm. If you did make such a mod... think of the SHEER animation work needed to be put into the Arachnid Warriors :|

I don't think there is a rico in the book (never read it). I wanna see Aliens and Marines in this as well, could you do that by re-skinning (and animating) Bugs and troopers? If so that would be cool.

Yes Rico IS in fact in the book and yes he does nuke ppl.

In the book the basic CAP troop (MI) goes into battle by loading him self into a capsule (Note CAP troops) that is then fired out of a cannon on a ship.

The Capsule hits the atmoshpere of the planet and begins to break up creating chaff to hide where our infantryman is. (I.E. so pieces of debree get hit instead of the M.I.)

After varius chutes are activated and broken off the suit finaly blows open at a few miles.

Then hes just a normal paratrooper (In power armor) until he pops his chutes and use's his jump jets to land.

Now we have a soldier with a Flame thower, Infer-red vision,Missle launcher with ammo of differnt types,Hand bombs,Napalm pills, And every so often a Tac nuke with a little less then 2 kilotons.

The Bugs in the Book had ships and had laser weapons.

I won't tell you any more so just go out and buy it for about ten bucks at most. its only a little more then 200 pages. not very long and a good read.

The book is freaking awesome, I love all of his work.

The book is more of a discussion on why to fight etc than there is action but it's a great read and the action scenes are a lot of fun.

The movie sucked ass. They weren't even the MOBILE infantry since they walked every where (they were called the M.I. on the book since every trooper could cover huge distances quickly).

would be a cool mod, these troopers would be similar to SM with jumpjets.

i read the book a few times before i saw the movie. where else would i get the idea for the skinnies?

edit: for the record i actually loved the book and the movie. the overall b feeling of it, the amazing special effects, and the incredible battle scenes made me a fan. even though its LOOSELY based on the book, i still loved it.

I probably would hold the same feelings as you if they just had'nt called it Starship Troopers. I find hard to believe that to any degree its based on hienlens books.(They just called SST for the name nothing more....just like the newBooby star Galatica)

But was it really a "Nazistic" Govt? I don't really think so, the franchise may have been dependent on military service, but if you reread the section of the book where Johnnie is in OCS, and his teacher is talking about the govts of the XXth century (ours included) some of what he's saying starts to make sense, about using the wolves of society as the sheepdogs, and about the massive problem our society has with crime and punishment.

the background checking i did on the book and heinlien shows that he was in favor of the ways that communists operated, and nazis to a degree as well. the federation he created in starship troopers was a combination of both.

"you serve for the greater good, you get more rewards than those that dont. you steal, we cut off your hand. you question what youre fighting for, we whip you."

that type of thinking.

The terrain federation seems to run on the concept that you

must work and sweet for citizenship.

That to deal with Rampaging kids you lash them publicly before they do something serious.

I didnt get the feeling any one was beaten up by an elite SS force.

and I don't recal thier being any gulogs.

And about the citezenship thing.

Well i suppose its better then a biolagical monarchy.

Any way i think this mod will be realy fun when it comes out :beer: Tac nukes gonna be a bit hard to put in though.

Any modellers and skinners interested in this? I could probably code for it [only studied the code for a week but i think i get the jist!]

You could just buy starship troopers the game it like DOW but you cant build any thing. But a lot more weapons and armour.

The problem with doing all these movie-related and game-related mods is that there are always legal issues, and a lot of times the mod gets shut down halfway into development.

Though I'd love to see a SST mod, or something a lot like it.

and the aliens shouldn't be to high-poly because not everyone has an x800 :P
