Almost every multiplayer game ive tried to participate in the game crashes before i can finish constructing my first building. The tutorial runs fine. I am behind a firewall though the crashes happen both when im the host and client.
I have had a few games where ive been able to last much longer thougb it almost always happens within the first minute.

My comp doesnt freeze it just drops to desktop about 60 seconds after a multiplayer game starts with the "wh40k.exe has encourntered an error blah blah" box popping up. Ive sent to log files via the box with a brief description. Was hoping perhaps someone might be able to offer a quick fix here however.
Would be interested to know what the final line in error message means as it seems quite ominous:

i have experienced this as well... also the game creates a specific log for this crash with the date... if u go to the folder, you will see logs for everytime it crashes in multiplayer (which is every game for me) I have about 100 such logs saved

My buddies were having this problem last night, with fresh installs.
I'll follow up with Relic see if they can tell us what was happening.

I have the same issue. Tutorial runs beautifully. Multiplayer craps out to the desktop after a few minutes of game play (maybe 2 or 3) with an option to report the problem, but even the report hangs up.
I run an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, with 1GB DDR 333 RAM, nVidia GeForce FX 5600 256. Have current video/audio/DirectX files. Running Windows XP Pro SP-1.

i have this problem too. I am actually happy many others are having it since that will make it likely to get fixed. The game has run fine on my system till this last patch with this problem.

Same problem here. I believe it is the firewall because it worked back at my University but crashes at home. Any help would be wonderful :werd:

Behind a hardware router. Game appears to just randomly crash in MP on occasion. Very frustrating.

This has happened to me also.

This happens to me 80% of the time. If I crash it is within first 30 seconds of map start.

I also am having this problem in Multiplayer. I can't complete a single game. Sometimes it let's me in for 5-10 minutes before a crash to desktop. Other times, as soon as I select a unit, builder, or building. Sometimes all I have to do is scroll around the map or move my mouse over a target. Anyway I try ends up with the same result. Crashed.
This is becoming increasingly annoying, and I've never been in a BETA that was as horrible bugged as this one. If this is any indication as to how the Full release will be, I'll definitly NOT be purchasing it. Which is really too bad, since I'm an avid 40k player and wsa really looking forward to this game
Hopefully they start to acknowledge the fact that MP is horribly bugged and start to come up with some explinations or workarounds to solve this issue.

I think most of my crashing was due to a new router firmware version I had installed. I have a Linksys BEFSR41 (original version). I had installed the 1.46.00 firmware (note the 1.45.11 has same issue). It also caused Counterstrike to crash soon after getting into a game. To get Counterstrike to work I had to add a parameter to the .exe launch line +clientport 27006. I believe the new firmware it has a problem establishing and allowing traffic on non-standard ports. Atleast automatically. I had even done the port forwarding to no avail. I went back to 1.45.7 firmware and think it helped. I need to do more testing though. I will update this thread later tonight when I get home.

Yes, the exact same thing here. I have played i'd say 30-35% of the multiplayer games i've tried. Within the first 2 mins it will crash to the desktop. If it dosent crash withinthe first 2 mins then i usually make the whole game fine. If it helps here is what i have.

I tried the DMZ also and it also did not work for me. Obviously it should eliminate any connectivity issues, but did not. The bummer about this problem is that several different causes will produce the same results. The rumor is that the devs are going to issue a patch this week for the crashing. That is one cause. You can also have connection related issues from your firewall or router. You could also just have people with faulty or overheated hardware causing the game to crash. It is annoyiong never the less. I just want to play this great game continously!

Could be the heat for some people, but its not for me the single player works fine, although a bit laggy. Im taking my pc to work tonight that uses a different firewall and see how it works there. Are we all using the same router???

I have this problem and I also have the the lynksys router. I believe that is our culprit.

So far so good. I had no crashing tonght when playing. It is definately the firmware version in my Linksys that was causing the issue. Again I am using the 1.45.7 version currently. The 2 most recent versions (1.46.00 and 1.45.11) have this issue.

I will try the firmware fix. I took my machine to work tonight and they use a smoothwall fire wall. After setting it up for DOW i played 8 games without a single crash. I take my machine back home to my trusty sr41 linksys and same problem again. I'm going to try a direct connection bypassing the router. If that works then i will try the firmware downgrade.

Hmm im not having problems with any other games only WH40k.
I am reluctant to sort out the firmware as last time we did our entire network disconnected from the net randomly every few hours, then went back to normal when i reverted to old firmware.

Wow very annoying. Tried to go back to a linksys 1.45 bios, still no effect crashes almost everytime. However a direct connection to my DSL modem works great. . . :fight:

What linksys sr41 version is everyone using? (It says on the bottom of the router.) Im using the sr41 Ver 2 with the 1.46 the most updated firmware and the game crashes after a few seconds in any multi game. If I pull the SR41 out of the equation and do a direct connect from my modem to my computer, the game works just fine in multi. I've tried DMZ and different port forwarding setups and nothing works except direct connect.
--UPDATE--
I switched to 1.4.7 firmware (ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/befsr_fw_1457.zip) and the game works fine now.

Yeah tried Direct Connect to modem also, works fine when i do it that way so its deffo a router problem.
Using Linksys SR41 here, latest firmware doesnt help. Direct connect to modem is not a long term option for me since im sharing connection with others in flat.
terrific

Hmm, double check that firmware, and thanks a TON for the link. I downloaded that firm ware 1.4x.7 and it works fine now with my router. I've played 5 games without a single crash. Kudos :yippee:
