I was just wondering, what do you actually get out of attaching a commander type unit to a squad? From what I can tell the bonuses effect units in the same area, not units that are attached. So, since you can't have a squad leader if a commander unit is attached, isn't it better to just have an extra unit in each squad than taking it up with the commander who will be fine alone?

It's easier to deal with one squad than with a commander and a squad. Also, if you send a commander into mêlée, and then a squad, the commander will be well in front of the squad, thus allowing several shots to be taken at him.

well, attaching the commander to a squad does not prevent you from getting a sergeant for that squad and the most apparent benefit of attaching the commander is that the squad will get a morale bonus and thus breaks less often.

If you have a squad leader already you can't attach to a squad. The option to add a squad leader is available if your already attached but I don't think it actually adds a leader does it? I havn't actually tested it as by the time I started adding a squad leader I was looking elsewhere when it finished. Is it a bug not being able to add to squads that have a leader?

1. The game almost needs no micro managment *at all*. For a player who is at least a *little* skilled, there shouldnt be a problem of managing a single extra unit.

2. The commander deals the most damage in melee combat, and he's very good in bashing enemy squads to pieces. Attaching him to a squad only makes sense if its a PURE melee squad.

3. Focus firing on my commander is the biggest mistake my opponent can make. This guy is a meatshield. If hes about to die I'll just get him out of the deepest trouble. In the meantime my other Units kept firing on enemy squads, while still being undamaged...

To summ things up, you can say that attaching your commander to a squad is the biggest noob thing you can do. Especially if you play marine. You WILL need that medic in your squad, since he is (right now) completly imballanced. Hes cheap, ultra-fast produced and doubles the life length of your squad. At least if youre playing against me, you *deffinitely* wont win unless you heavily abuse the medic (having one in each squad).

I always attach commanders to units because, as has been stated by the devs, they enhance morale recovery for their squad.

I have yet to be defeated in 1.3.
