After a couple of days there are some minor things that I think would add to the game:
1- Downgrade options. If you are playing a FFA or bigger team game and find yourself suddenly facing Orks instead of Chaos, those lascannons on your Predator and Dreadnoughts are now a liability. Ditto for missle launchers vs heavy bolters in Tactical squads. I don't care if there is no resource refund or even a small cost involved, but I'd like the option to go back and forth between them.
2- Add a Razorback option to Rhinos. This would trim their squad carrying capacity down (tabletop represents it at 6), but add essentially a Predator turret (no sponsons). If this isn't a viable option then I'd definetely like to see Rhinos take up only 1 vehicle squad. There's no comparing the usefulness of a Dreadnought vs a Rhino for me.
3- Hero hotkeys. Warcraft III sold me on this and I constantly find myself hitting F1 to lay down an Orbital Bombardment. I'm not sure if they are in or not but if they are I haven't found them yet.
4- Mobbing up. Orks especially would benefit from being able to combine smaller squads, and in fact this is an essential ability orks have in the tabletop game. Being able to join up might mean sacraficing equipment but it could help counteract morale problems.
5- Ork Morale. Bigger squads of Orks ought to be tougher to break than smaller ones, and the squads I used in my lone game with them broke pretty easily. I'm not sure if they really are cowardly or if it was just a fluke as I haven't played them much but it takes quite a bit to break a 15-ork squad in TT.
6- Auto-use of Rally. Again I'm not 100% sure on this but if you could set Rally to be automatically used ala Overwatch (even once) it would let you do some other things with your micro time.
7- Damage detail. As it stands it's really sketchy, and even after giving my Dreadnought a pair of lascannons his ranged damage is only listed at 30-45 or so, even though I know he's doing far more than that. I know the damage amounts are still being tweaked but again Blizzard spoiled me on being able to know how much damage I'm doing against certain foes. Even a rough table with percentages of damage (say weapons good against Infantry do 50% of that damage against Heavy Infantry and the like) outside of the game would be super.
8- Auto-reinforce at production time. I know you can use Overwatch to reinforce squads individually, but being able to set that option on the production centers would be a nice thing.
9- More UI graphics. A lot of people have mentioned that there are several UI buttons that don't have graphics on them, especially the upgrades at the Space Marine Armory. It's not a big thing but it'd add considerable flavor.
10- Non-teleporting Terminators/Non-drop Tacs/Dreadnoughts. There'a few precious seconds when you finish a squad of Terminators before you can upgrade them, because even if you drop them next to the Barracks they arrive via teleporter. It would be nice to have an option to just disembark them normally -- ditto with squads built at the Orbital Relay.
edit: forgot one! 11- Let use make control groups of buildings. Being able to upgrade all my listening posts at the same time when the first upgrade becomes available would be a huge boon. Having us hunt them down individually is a little silly.
I am a huge 40K fanboy and this game is pretty much my dream come true. I'm sold on Relic-- thanks guys for making such a terrific game. I might even buy two copies to show you how grateful I am!
