Hmm.. so is Global Ops a mod, too? It'd just be funny if BD exclusively made really good, elaborate mods and sold them as separate games.

No, Global Ops is a standalone game...

I'd just like to remind you folks that it was Sierra that chose not to beta test Cataclysm. Stop dissing BD for it.

Blurb, I wonder how Barking Dog people feel about how the Homeworld community took their game... I'm sure they've visited and learned how most people reacted. If I were a game designer, I would be devistated. Personally, I think Cataclysm was a great game overall, except for the buggy stuff. (Especially the Music, UI, and Voices) If they only released a patch fixing all the bugs, it would cata(clysm)pult it over freespace right under homeworld as my favorite game.
Perhaps the new one is Impossible Creatures: Gene Mutants or something :D
I didn't know that Sierra didn't beta Cata... makes sense now, and also shows that BD is a good company, it's just the big money loving company.
GG BD!

I actually loved Cata except for one thing---FOW. It made the skirmish and MP game unnecessarily drawn out and a boring game recon tag until somebody build a shit load of frigs or super capital ships. It's a shame that without it, it would have been an enjoyable game with a lot of spectacular atmosphere, music, and fun battles. With that aside, there were plenty of enjoyable moments, but they were too few and far between. The FOW did, however provide a sense that you were alone out there in space, but it is rather sad that that one thing is in the way of an otherwise great game.

I loved the interface changes they made - ships looked a bit sharper, issuing orders in sensors manager was really useful, etc. What I really didn't like about HW:C was that it became "Starcrafted" - too many special functions. I liked having ships in HW that were good at one thing, so I could have a fighter group that'd take out capships, a group to go after fighters, some capships to take out other capships, etc. In HW:C, though - acolytes and drone frigates are used for just about everything. :(

I liked it, too.
What really bothered me was the ship limits, I loved that in HW you could have these massive fleet battles of tons of ships (Tho my computer was cursing my name when I did :D)
But with the SUs, that couldn't happen :(
None of the other stuff really bothered me...
