View Full Version : Long Load Times

I have noticed that the load times are really long on the beta especially while loading Multiplayer games. Now, if you are planning on reducing the load times on the final release there is no problem, but you might try allowing us to chat while the game is loading, or at least cause the pics to cycle, perhaps with some game hints or something for the final release.

Or something that displays how far the other players are with loading.

Get more and faster Ram, Get a Graphics card with more and faster Ram. Wait until final when the Graphics optimzed completely. then such things won't be necessary.

its a ton better now, then in the first build, and i am thinking it can be made even better still.
I recall in the first build it could take 5+ min to load a map :(

IT's fast if you compare to loading on games like Doom3, FarCry and UT2k4 :)
And actually a faster harddisk would work better on loading times than more/faster ram :)
Ram don't help when you still have to load everythign from the dead slow HDD :)
I confess, that DOW is the most fun I've have playing a RTS since Total Annihilation.
However there are a few shortcomings in DOW compared to TA... and this thread reminds me of one.
TA in multiplayer mode showed you what resolution other people were playing in and how much RAM they had. It might sound petty, but I'd love to see that added (plus processor) to give you an idea how long other people's machines will take to load!
Also a % bar of how far other players have gotten in loading would be great so you could judge whether to kick players during load...

farcry loads much faster on my computer even Star Wars Galaxies loads faster and has less lag
I don't have any problem with load times, i think there quite good. But then again it all depends on your system :D

I load in in less than 50 secs, usually 45. But then I have 2 gigs of ram.
If you want to see when other people are loaded, open up the console just before the game starts to load and it will tell you when they are done.

So you're saying we should just go and buy new hardware for our comps just to make the loading a bit quicker. NO, its because of the quality of the software. Hopefully they do the same kida thing Valve etc is doing with Half Life 2, that is making the software top-notch which allows much slower systems (despite having revolutionary graphics) to run it unlike something like Doom3. Its not our fault if the programming makes it so we need super comps to run it to a high degree.

I only have 256 MB of RAM, a 1.5 Ghz P4 and a 138 MB GeForce FX 5200. I run the game on full graphics (Except for shadows) and everything runs fairly smooth for me. Load times ARE long, but I don't see any problem with it since the game hasn't been optimized yet. Once the release version come sout I'm sure things will run even faster.

Good idea! Then when we get ingame, we know who to attack first as punishment.

yeah tha would be cool and moleuk thanks for that tip !!
press console and you can see who has loaded the game; and how quickly.
I would think that seeing the other players load times would be fairly simple.
btw sen; you can't make everyone in the world upgrade their hardware to play a computer game. It's not logical and will never happen.
