View Full Version : [OPINION]We should be able to point the camera upwards to look up into the sky.

I know it won't do much to improve the game, but I can't see why we can look straight down on the ground but not look straight up into the sky. I'd like to see my thunderhawk coming out of the clouds to land or a swarm of my Assault Marines blackening out the sky. I think those would just be cool to look at.

I also want to see this.
It might cause some problems when you look up at the sky and then your camera is virtually underground if you zoom a lot.
But, erm, I am pretty sure relic can solve this easily and it will be a greatly appreciated addition.

Then they should have a camera system that's similar to the one in GC2. This allows you to not only zoom in and out, but also to change the 'height' or 'level' of your camera view. If the camera was too close to the ground, you could'nt look up ( just like it is right now in DoW), but if you put your camera on a different height (away from the ground) you could look up without having the camera go 'through' the ground.

Yeah, the engine in GC2 would be awesome (not that its anything wrong with the current in DOW)

I'll agree with this if we can post pictures of ourselves on the skybox. I mean, we are looking down at our little minions destroying eachother... It's even possible their A.I. will recognize their leader. =oP
P.s.
On a serious note, this would be cool but it maybe impossible. *shrugs*

also, its probably extra code to PREVENT the camera from looking everywhere. zooming shouldnt be a problem if they actually just change the field of view instead of moving the cam back (though this might screw with lod schemes unless you include the fov in the selection process). sometimes im confused why games bother to limit the camera to "useful" angles instead of simply assuming a player is clever enough to point it himself (or just stick with the default).

The sky is prettyful? Please explain, because it has no special textures and is just a slab of color. You would need to retexture the sky to may it look better, and would need new graphics if you really want to see the "thunderhawk coming out of the clouds."
Not to mention you should be spending that time commanding your troops.

somehow i wouldnt be surprised if the camera limits will end up in some ini file or can be set via console anyway. and if not, its still not a big deal.
