View Full Version : Wow, it's like it came from a dream.
As I was making my rounds afound the net, I returned to Gamespot out of bordom, I wasn't expecting an update, however, I came across this; SimCity 4 (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/previews/0,10869,2863198,00.html) (just 4, not 4000). Not expecting much more then SimCity 3000, I clicked and some some nice concept 3D art, except it wasn't concept art, they were pre-Alpha shots. After looking through the gallery I read the preview and saw that pretty graphics weren't the only new things, along with day/night cycles, weather and diasters which you can take control of, there are plenty of nice new features which will make it a micromanagers dream come true.
I know many people here aren't interested in Sim games, so I'll just tell you to go check out the preview instead of typing it out (read: highlight, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V).
Edit: I hate it when people talk to me while I'm typing.
YOU GO BOOM!!

You realize you can see a some what crappy (well nowadays) version of that by playing Sim Copter or Streets of Sim City (better version being contained in Streets)

You realize that SimCopter, Streets of SimCity and SimCity aren't in any way alike.

Yes, but you can still see the sun set over an Arcology in 3D...
The sun never set or rose in either of theose games, it was either night or day.

Maxis put out a game called "A-Train" which was contemporary to or possibly earlier than Railroad Tycoon. Much more basic in that there wasn't a complex economy (industries manufactured boxes.. which could be shipped outside the city and sold or used to build houses and buildings.) Shuttling passengers and boxes around the city was fun, but the great part was starting in an almost desolate area and getting sprawling communities to grow. While they would pop up themselves, you could also build larger buildings like apartments and offices and hotels and ski resorts and golf courses and even enormous skyscrapers, and it would tell you how profitable they were(nt.) Great game.
Oh, the point of all this was that it had a day night cycle on a real calendar.
A-Train was great fun, it cam long before Railroad Tycoon (I have the 5' floppies) and also had a few more features then Railroad Tycoon (the abality to start new communities and industries). The most annoying part about it was the sheduling, very fustrating. But I don't need to highjack my own thread, one of the mentioned features was the ability to capitalize off resources and start neighbouring communities, witch will give it a much more 'industralized' feel. Along with the new personalized feeling your suppost to get and the three differen eras mentioned, hopefully the time will pass a bit slower and realisticly, like in A-Train.

Meh... I prefer the traditional Railroad Tycoon... vthe one that requires pencil, paper, and niftty little models.
