The armies in the game play like the tabletop armies do. That's a good thing

Orks play orky.

Eldar require some finesse.

Marines are marines. Powerful, but few.

Chaos is...well...Chaos. I do miss the special units like Noise marines and such though.

Definitely agree - Orks seemed a little difficult to play to me, but I've only used them a few times. I too miss many of the Chaos units, but remember that Chaos is a HUGE army in the TT, actually comprising five armies (vanilla Chaos plus the Four Powers) plus variant Legions, so it really would be infeasible to put all the Chaos stuff in (at least in the initial release!) since it would take as much effort as adding an entire new race.

Not to mention the pain of balancing them.

But yes I am very impressed so far at the game, for me it brings 40k a little bit more alive then any of the other computer games they have sold save Chaos Gate(its to much of a classic) some things they need to work on but I think Relic will do a good job all in all. I know I will get it when it comes out even if they haven't hammered down everything but as long as they continue to support the game( ala blizzard) after launch I feel it will be ok.

The only thing you need to think about as orks is how to get stuck in the fastest (i.e. rushing.) Don't worry about casulties as much as getting more boyz into the fight. Now how orky is that? ;)

I'm not sure balancing is all that much of an issue here. In all actuallity the balancing has been done by GW in advance, it's just a matter of translating that balance to the RTS. What's really exciting for me is the possibility for expansion and re-enacting historical campaigns like Armageddon and the Macharius Campaign or one of the Black Crusades.

The concept is not as easy as you think, and GW's went through years to balance it the way it is, so I think props are deserved where they're due. I agree, I've found this the most enjoyable RTS I've played in a long time.

I just hope they plan to release an expansion with the other races, like the nids, tau and necron. yes, I know, people will probably mod them in, but I'd rather be able to play on official tournaments nad such with my favorite race, then be forced to play with friends/the few who download the mod.

I agree overall the game is impressive. I would like to see a few more options from the GW codexs for each of the races + plus a few tweeks here and there. with chaos and all the other races i would like some expansion packs.
