View Full Version : [PERFORMANCE][1.4] Tutorial Post 1.4...still "clicking"

In fact, I think it runs worse now than it did before 1.4. What I noticed is, combat really no longer impacts slow down. Game ran fine before until you were looking at a few units doing battle. NOW, instead, there is an overarching lag to everything. Watching the animations, you can clearly see a hitch every couple of seconds. This made panning around the screen laggy as well.

Granted, it's not the dramatic full screen pauses that you got with the 1.3 tutorial, but it's like the pause time is short, but the frequency increased.

Summary: At least the 1.3 tutorial ran smoothly early on, before you had lots of units. The 1.4 tutorial displays slow down in the first few minutes, and is prevalent no matter if you're looking at one unit running or 30 units firing.

Did you(and they) mean the tutorial or MP? I'm talking solely about the tutorial.

Agreed, the tutorial runs worse now than it did before. Now it seems sluggish overall, instead of the pauses every few seconds. Tried reducing shadows from High to Medium, no difference.

I think you are talking about the same issue I still have, which is a horrible lag/delay between scrolling screens in DoW and when clicking on the mini-map. Even with all my graphics settings set to the lowest setting I notice the problem. For me it happens during any game, not just the tutorial.

Hope Relic fixes this one. Thanks.

It's similar for me:
In 1.3 the tutorial had lags if both the computer and I had a lot of units and it showed just like you said, e.g. if yoo are watching a moving units you see three steps, short wait, three steps and so on.
Now in 1.4 it's the same but the slow-down starts much earlier with way fewer units deployed.

[And all this happens with only 16bit and all details turned to low! The graphics engine just isn't very good (or Relic is keeping their fast one for the final release, so that we still have something to buy .-).]

I have the same problem in the tutorial, but not in multiplayer games with computer players. The game will run at full framerate (30-40fps) for a third of a second, pause for a third of a second, run at full speed for a bit, pause, etc.

My multiplayer performance is pretty decent--about what you'd expect from my specs.

Same thing exactly for me.

radeon x800 xt plat.

Same exact thing. 1.3 had a stutter effect (only in tutorial) which has gotten worse in 1.4. It does not impact gameplay in a *dramatic* fashion, but it's sure annoying. I really hope they fix this one by ship day.

AMD XP 3000+
ATI 9800 Pro 128
1GB DDR RAM
RAID 0 60GB Seagates

I have not messed with settings much, I'll give it a shot.
Glad to see I'm not the only one...

Same here, multiplayer runs fine but the tutorial is all sticky and 'clicks' when you move. I have a 2.4 ghz p4 and 1GB DDR RAM

People, try defragging your harddrives(Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmentation).

I just did it, and it was almost like the 1.3 tutorial in preformance(didn't stress test it with full unit count). Anyways, it's better than it when 1.4 first released.

Post your results.

Didn't change anything for me. I really notice it now in the tutorial. It isn't nearly as bad in multiplayer games.

Still choppy as ever for me. Wonder wtf's going on. Got a friend with less ram than I do and and it isn't choppy at all for him. It would be nice if more people had this problem. Doubt they'll do anything about it if only 15 people have this problem still. Wouldn't even be surprised if they left it this way in the final version.

I did a stress test on the tutorial tonight. Basically, it runs about as well as MP with one side having a full compliment of troops. Stutter, yes, but it's not very dramatic, at least not on my system.

I think there is still a problem with the programming of the game perharps?

I also get the small click, stutter or breaks which is clearly visible on for instance the rotating wrench over one of the Space Marines' builder unit where you see it pausing for a split second once every 2 seconds and of course also visible anywhere else your units are doing something. This is very frustrating to look at!
To me it happens in the tutorial only and there is no changes whatsoever between 1.3 and 1.4.

For me, the Tutorial's been running smoother than ever before.
