Did'nt Games Workshop used to make games based on the Judge Dredd comic? And I heard it made a mad max type TT game called Dark Future? Why did GW decide to focus on WH/WH40K? Oh, and why did they stop Space Hulk and Gorkamorka?

1.- They lost the liscence.
2.- Gorkamorka and Space Hulk didn´t sell enough. Sad but true.

also, cutting down on their product range, reduced production costs in the foundry, which were increased with the introduction of white metal over lead, about 8 years ago..

So is there anyone out there old enough to have played the GW Judge Dredd games or Dark Future?

What exactly is "white metal"? And the reason for not using lead was for health reasons, am I right? Which also brings up the question of what kind of plastics are used and their eventual health effects.

Not that I think they use anything dangerous, atleast not nowadays.

White metal is lead mixed with another metal, dont remember what one.

Really? I thought the figures where originally made of tin mixed with lead, and figured that white metal would be tin and something else that is not lead, since lead is poisonous. Or were the old figures made completely out of lead?

Actually, false.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000 are Games Workshop's only evolving lines.

Space Hulk, Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Blood Bowl, Trolls in the Pantry, what-have-you -- these games are all "one shots". They produce the rules, have a run at minis, maybe make an expansion set, then stop "officially" supporting it, perhaps to revise or revisit it later (like the reprints of the Necromunda rules, or the new Epic book).

Every game other than FB and 40k has been like this.

Space Hulk sold fabulously. Ask any 40k player who was in the hobby when Space Hulk was released, and I'll bet you they own it.

I didn't know they made a Dark Future game. Sounds like Necromunda 30000 years early.

White metal is an alloy similar to pewter. Firstly, its easier to work with then the old lead based figures.

The actual reason however is that there was a fair number of countries were it was against the law to sell high lead content models. Hence GW changed the metal composition so they could sell there.

they do this all the time have teh game out for a year or so, let people forget about it then start again, anyone remember warhammer quest, that was a remake of a game, teh only game i dont think they ahve redone yet was the old warhammer ship game, i bet they will, battlefleet gothic is a remake, bloodbowl has been re made so many times, last time tehy didnt even bother to change the box, wot edition is fanatsy in now, 7th? its a very good way to get more money out of us, part for bloodbowl has most people already had the pitch and rules ;)

*EDIT*

LOTR's isnt really outside the universe really ;)

Warhammer Fantasy is 6th edition I think.

I would really love to see a reprint of the Warhammer RPG.

Its gth ed. LOTR is an evolving line however. They plan for at least three supplements a year (check out recent Battle for Pellenor Fields- its da fozzile), and are supporting it until at least 2010... then they will probably renew the license, since tha smaller among us (15 and younger) are lapping it up.

oh almost forgot... while I am at it.. with the introduction of white metal, and the fact that it destroyed moulds a lot quicker than in the days of lead, GW also introduced a fair old price hike..

I hate price hikes.......
Just out of interest but does anyone know why the tac squads and the like have gone up by about £6 in the last 3 years?

sigh - dirty flithy LOTR - can you say "cash cow"

i hate that game, i abosutley do - when i used to work for GW i had to run the obligatory intro games, persuade 5 year olds they shouldnt buy it, and worst of paint the HEINOUS figures for it. and worst of all the game is total trash.

the WFB ship game was Man O'War (ass, imo, just like BFG).

TBH most of these (what are now called) specialist games arent that great, and only really reward the hard core gamers and gaming groups - the best ones are necromunda, epic 40k, space hulk and the absolute MAC DADDY blood bowl.

Necromunda kicks bloodbowl in the face.

i disagree, and call illegal procudure on you for not justifying your point. :Slap:

and lets be honest, im right. necromunda is a fantastic game, i do enjoy it very much, but blood bowl is that much more fun - and most deffinatley the most skilled GW game there is. to play blood bowl well requires an immense amout of skill

necromunda, on the other hand (or 40k 2ed, really) is a little too random occasionally. as i say, it is great, but it lacks the character of blood bowl, the humour and the sheer fun factor! how many screaming fans? theres a riot! in both halfs! d'oh! dammn golbins always throiwnng rocks at my blitzer! black orc pass moanouvers!

and i wouldnt anger nuffle i was you... he IS the god of roling ones when you really dont need it.

TURNOVER

Well Jim, He really shouldnt have Gone for it to keep typing there, hes gone right over!
Indeed, steve, and thats a turnover...
