I think it would be interesting if there was some sort of Bombard Cannon Platform, or a Bombard Cannon Frigate. The Bombard Cannon would be like a vgr_bcforwardweapon but with extreme range and less damage.
Here are some ideas for the weapon specs:
Projectile speed - 10000
Range - 100000 (Longer than Sajuuk's main gun, I beleive.)
Damage - 1000 (Much less than vgr_bcforwardweapon, obviously)
Other stats would be the same except for the weapon firing delay. I can't remember what the WeaponTuning.xls name for it is, but it is set to 5 at default. Changing it to 1.5 would make it line up perfectly and make sense with the lower damage. This way you could send a scout to the enemy base to get telemetry data, then swivel your Bombard Cannon Turrets around and let loose with the guns. They would obviously take a while to kill bigger targets, but if you make it so that they have a limited ammo supply or take resources to fire, you could make them accurate against small targets. That way you could make it possible (not guaranteed, but possible) to take out fighter squadrens with them. They would take a lot of resources to build, but could be that one deciding factor in an assault. Imagine this:
The Hiigaran fleet is constructing a Battle Cruiser. The Vaygr are sending a fighter swarm to take out the shipyard, but they will take too long to arrive. A probe positioned above the Hiigaran base shows the exact location of the shipyard's Capital Facility. Vaygr Bombard Cannon Turrets open fire and take out the Capital Facility before the Hiigaran's can complete the Battle Cruiser. The Vaygr strike force arrives and turns the shipyard into spacedust.
Once I learn more about modding I might try making it myself.
