View Full Version : Codex Cityfight - Obsolete after new rule book?

Just got the new rulebook and on the chapter on terrain types, there's something called area terrain(which seems to cover ruins and shooting through a building within 6 inches), it mentions being inside a building as difficult terrain, and there's the rule about moving up and down(and apparantly you don't even need a ladder or a lift to do so anymore!).
I've only fliped through the book, so I don't have a full understanding of the new rules. But IF Codex Cityfight is obsolete, I'm kinda glad cause now I can finally use blast markers in urban terrain! Units in an open street(in urban terrain) can no longer hide from cover when being shot by my Imperial Navy Flyers!

Lol, just because you're using city terrain doesn't mean you have to use cityfight rules. You can use the normal rules whenever the hell you want to.
However, I see no reason to think that Cityfight is obsolete. You can still use those rules whenever you like.

canadian, cityfight is a variation on the rules. kinda like 40k-B. if you wanted to, you could go get a 2nd ed rulebook and codex, make a 2nd ed army and use cityfight rules. so it will never be obsolete until they make cityfight v2
i need to get myself a copy of it. i want my IG to own my friend's space marines indoors

Have any of u played in an urban terrain without cityfight rules? If so, is it any better than playing with cityfight rules?

Its not that its better or worse, its just different. I will say it is more convenient, depending on your terrain, simple because of the cityfight coherence and close combat rules.
Cityfight has some rules that make it necesary to change your usual tactics, and allow for some new strategies that wouldn't be useful in standard 40k. So its refreshing to play it once in awhile... I wouldn't use them ALL the time though.
