Ok I'll admit I'm new to the game, but I really don't understand the players in my area. There is a tiny shop near me, really really cool place, but it has no AC. So in the summer its hot as hell.

I have a house, with tons of room and AC. To me this would be the ideal place to play. There is a North West forum, and I posted there trying to get people to play over here, but every time they want to meet over at this small shop.

I had a friend who has played for years, drive up for a game, and he said that the setup at my house was perfect for gaming.

So what is the deal with people wanting to play at these small shops? I want to get some weekly games setup, what am I missing?

have u actually met these people before, or is it just people online you are asking to play against you. because if your just asking people you have met online they may prefer to meet at a kinda of neutral ground, the store.

Where are ya in the NW? My DA could use a little practice. Especially with the new rules. I'm in the seattle area.

Neg, just trying to get a game through a forum. Thats a good point though. Never thought of that. I've hooked up with a lot of people through forums, never felt the need to meet on neut ground before.

Although, I have seen people set up games, and they are always at the local gaming shops.

OGG, which store in the Portland Area are you reffering to. I'm from Vancouver, so I may know it, and may have a suggestion or two on where to play instead.

yeah i was only saying this, because if some one i met online challenged me to a game, i would prefer to meet them in the store first off, just to make sure they are ok people and can be trusted.

You too eh? You must be referring to Ancient Wonders, is my guess--great crowd, but I agree, the building is AWFUL! I agree though, with others. No offense buddy (I live around here too, and up until recently kept up with Z Games up in Vancouver, WA). Most people are reluctant because they don't know you, simple as that. I know that I personally would rather meet a new gamer on neutral grounds, just for my own benefit. This comes from experience--back when I lived in CA there were a few guys that ran a gaming group--well, let's just say I doubt I would have felt comfortable in their extended company, and they did offer--If I had taken that offer, I would have regretted it . Just some quick other places to check out though--there is a place called Bridgetown Hobbies in Games in Portland that's reputedly a really awesome place to get some 40K in every Thursday, and it was in a nicer building, so check that out. There's also Z Games up in Vancouver WA (It's a bit of a drive)-the staff there is REALLY friendly... Unfortunatly, snagging a player there can sometimes be problematic, in my experience. I've had a few times where I end up sitting around waiting for games because folks are busy with some other game with something else or just nobody shows (maybe I'm just spoiled--Bay Area had no shortage of players...) I haven't been there lately (life's in the way and it's a bit of a drive for me, so it pretty much kills my entire day). But it's a very nice place to play some games, so you might try that out.

Matter of fact, I wouldn't mind hearing if you were to drop by one of these areas--I've been looking for players in the area for some time now (if nothing else, to finally get me motivated to paint my Imperial Guard) so drop me a line sometime if you'd like to arrange some sort of meeting. At some point. Might be a while since college starts soon and all

It'd be nice if we'd get a GW store around here though (it ruffle's people's feathers, but when a staff gets together that's really good, the gaming is just awesome--the Concord CA store has to have put together some of the best events I've ever been in and were were all ridicliously fun to play, win or lose--people like that keep me goin' with this hobby, ya know?) But I'd settle for Ancient Wonders getting a building that doesn't seem like a century old.

Good luck, you get something started you let me know--I'd kill for a regular gaming group around here.

The shops generally have terrain and tables. Not everyone has access to these things at home.

Wait for it when someone comes out and says "If you can't make your own terrain you're a loser and I am a better Warhammer hobbyist than you."

I'm assuming this guy does have SOME terrain considering he's offering people to come over and play.

Also, I think anyone who keeps an eye on this section of the board knows your contempt for Warhammer 'litists... Or something. But you know? In two YEARS I have not heard someone come out and call me a loser for not buidling any terrain--and really, I'm being totally honest here--it is NOT hard as long as you know what you're doing. All it requires is some foam core, a knife, flock and time, and you got a hill--add some trees from a hobby store and you have a forest, and get a little bit of that nifty plasticard and you have a building--so the guy making fun of you for not learning yet's a jerk and waving around an ability that takes a lot to master but not much to really learn--but I digress, that people like that aren't worth your time. I, however, have never seen one, and I've been playing for about 2-3 years now.

People have loyalty to the games store. It's were they feel most confortable playing. Everyone there is a gamer and no one will judge them.

u no gw should have gaming clubs that are COMPLETELY dedicated to gaming (mayb painting and modellling) so that people can have sumwhere good to play that isn't a small cramped shop with a load of people walkin around tryin to look at models (on shelf and off) the only prob in that idea is that there would have to be a membership thing or something so they made income, unless the money from shops would be shared... not gonna happen.
