I never honestly thought I would ever post this but the guys that did the intro for DoW need to make a movie length something...

I honestly believe that actors would botch it and that sets would be wrong, but if it was done with animation and it was done like that, then holy-space marine batman would it rock!!

I love the idea of a 40k movie, but the odds are the whole concept would get lost in the twisted stomach of hollywood. that said, animation would be a great way to go - huge scale potential and no bloody actors. think animatrix gone epic!

As long as GW had total control over things it could be pretty good, but if they didnt it would quite likely be a load of wooden american actors trying to look tough in power armour and oh look - a sister of battle for the obligatory sex scene. :Pike2:

And those space marines using...wait...no genitals??? :wtf2:

I'd enjoy a 40k movie...but to be honest it would either be jaw-dropping awesome, or total garbage. I feel that live action would be silly/impractical, whereas computer animation allows for a broader range of creativity.

Definately. Computer Animation would be the way to go, Hollywood these days... Pfft, it would be total garbage for sure, losing the entire concept of the 40k universe within a haze of sex and buff and well known actors trying to act tough. The story would be lost, something we dont want. Animation all the way!

CG movie? Yes, I would like the idea.

Acted, with crappy effect? No, I'd be worried.

Just need to take the Demo(and or Game) Intro and add in another 2 hours of that kind of high quality badass stuff, with like a ww2 movie type plot and whahey no problem Id pay money to watch it.

I think a collection of films by different artists/artist groups, featuring their individual styles would be cool. think Animatrix. this way you could capture much of the athmosphere and "wow" without having to weave a ridiculous plot all around the cool stuff.

you know what would be cool this as a movie but a saving private ryan kinda story

i didnt mean saving someone bu tthe kinda of style of the movie how its not just battle scenes that actually have to accomplish something rather than blowing the hell out of orks etc :yas:

of corse they cant just do all fighting the whole way through...people would get bored of watching that for 2 or 3 hours straight...
but a large fight on the epic scale of say LOTR the fellowship would be quite nice, and some thing like helmsdeep would be cool in a 40K movie...

Anime, please a 40k anime! seriously anime does work well for action movies and the stylew would be able to fit the 40k universe.

A manga would be pretty cool, especially if it was done likre the Blade of the Immortal books.

There is a CG movie being made at www.damnatus.com which should be good.

If someone made a CGI movie, with the same quality as the intro and a good plot, I would pay bigtime to see that movie.

I remember going to a Games Workshop Games Day, some years ago, theyt showcased a movie there.
It is possible the guys who made the intro could do a feature length thing, but they wouldnt make it for free lol.
It would need some backing and sadly, the 40k universe is seen as too risky.

I wouldnt mind them doing a Movie about the Horus Heresy

(yes i know lots of fluff exists about it!!!!)

I wouldnt mind seeing a movie in a 'modern' part of 40k either

*wishes that his script made sense*

I was just about to post that.

A 40k movie, using DoW's intro style CG, set in the Horus Heresy, would cause me to instantly cream myself upon viewing.

i'd think it boring. so much interesting stuff would be left out. the eldar, orks, tyranids, necrons, even tau.

i think something small-scale would work better. it seems all these I-LURVE-LOTR-HUEG-BATLEZ-OMG ejaculators want another 'Troy'.

no.

a huge 40k movie would be a let down because there would pretty much be no plot, all action. and while some people only care about the "blud and explotoins" others care about some story and character development.

something smaller, like kill-team, would be much more suited for a movie. kill-team, after all, is a hollywood-movie-on-you-tabletop. thats half the fucking work done for you.

goddamnit, even a psychological thriller based on inquisitor would be better than a straight-up 40k movie.

a horus heresy movie would be like epic armageddon on your screen. that would SUCK. maybe for the first five minutes it would be ok, as an intro a la fellowship. i definitely don't wanna see another helm's deep or pelennor fields.

when your script is so vapid that you have to resort to eye candy on such an epic scale, why bother making the movie in the first place?

Crested_Ones

because eye candy tastes good?? ;)

tho your right, the plot would be much better for a film if it was something like Kill Team or an Inquisitor thing.

lol, fine, crested, you got me there. i'll rephrase:

when your script is so vapid that you have to resort to eye candy on such an epic scale, why bother making the movie in the first place instead of a CG sequence for a game, like, oh, say, Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War?

dont tell me you wouldn't prefer that... :P

40k and anime do not mix. At all. The gothic atmosphere of 40k is the antithesis of anime.

That said, I'm all for a CG Horus Heresy movie(s). The dark, gory universe of 40k at its best coupled with a plot reminiscent of the original Star Wars trilogy (sort of the reverse, anyways) - you can't go wrong. I think I'd die of bliss watching the Horus and the Emperor fight.

How 'bout a ten part mini-series (like Band of Brohers) of Armageddon? Like the smaller battles e.g. the black templars ship raids.

Jedi, you have not witnessed the full spectrum of anime. now that i think about it, go and rent "Jin Roh". Its disturbin, and the athmosphere, albeit dealing with different issues, is dark and depressing. also, check out these screencaps:

I'm not saying a 40K movie should be anime, but to me, it would not be out of the question. Although i'd prefer live action, or maybe cgi, i'd enjoy anime too.

Animatrix style anime... as in, adapeted for the atmosphere yes. Generic anime (were talking movie makers here... they tend to fall to generic rubbish :-/ ) no.

A short. Like 10 or 30 minuets would be enought.
Like a short film they would show at cans.

To over come the "all action" you could have a tension bit. Where the marines/scouts whoever are entrench or setting up. Conversation, then small plot (or just direction) then action = ownzor!

They did a Space Hulk movie (live action) and a few shorts which go on the big screen at GD (sans sound, or if there is it gets drowned out) which were fairly cool but fans only.

The movie shown at Gamesday is called Inquisitor, which was eventually sold on video by GamesWorkshop but they stopped selling it after they realised that it isnt really that good, or something like that.
