Aren't they quite useless? i don't maen the weapons, the weaposn are deadly but 1 wound? I mean then the platform is going to get shot down at the first turn!, and they cant move around and shoot so what s the point of having them, besides there weapons, I mean you'll probably kil one squad, and then a lascannon hit BOOM

No they aren't pointless at all.

Not if it's buried in units like starcannons and brightlances generally are then, you just take the wouns on the other bods and with a warlock bearing conceal protecting the unit you really can't go wrong.
I'll think you'll find that starcannon platforms CAN move and fire not sure about the bright lances, nevertheless i think they are definitely worth it, unless you've got an Alaitoc ranger force of course.

Get yourself a Squad of Ulthue Black Guardians, drop in a Warlock & Starcannon... watch the enemy go away!

eldar heavy weapons on platforms dont count as moving. er...the heavy ones not the support ones. thats really really awsome...*drool* surprise starcannon punch in your "measly" squad of guardians. Or if you are slowly movign foward a bright lance will be useful for taking out vehcials from afar...

Hay hay... Black Guardians arn't so lame... if you can get them into range, with a 4BS they can mess some stuff up pretty good.

Heavy weapons platforms are quite useful, give a nice punch to your guardian squads. They dont have a wounds stat, and so cannot actually be killed. The only way to disable them is to remove the crew. The crew count as special weapons type people so you cant just take them out. Also heavy weapon platforms dont count as moving ever for firing purposes.
Support weapon batteries are similiar in they cannot be destroyed in and of theirself, only by killing the 2 crew can they be destroyed, they cannot move and fire however. The usefulness of support weapon batteries is debatable.

Black guardians can be good, not against heavy shooty armies though, my way to deal with a unit of them would be a havoc squad with heavy bolters.

first of all....the starcannon doesnt pentrate marines cause of 4th ed -_- , and second I'm talking about Heavy Support Platforms

Unless I'm really missing something you are reffering to support weapon platforms.
Personally I don't think they are any less weak than in 3rd edition, as in 3rd ed, all you had to do was kill 2 Guardians per platform to destroy it, and they were never allowed to move and fire anyways now you just see if it's the platform or the crew which are hit and killed, as is the case with all Artillery classed units, which support weapon platforms are.
On the other hand, heavy weapon platforms don't have any wounds, you need to kill the 2 crew to render the platform useless, it can't actually be hit itself, and given that you can always choose the casaulties those 2 crew should always be the last to die. Heavy weapon platforms can move and fire with all the weapons.

no.... Starcannons are strong, but 4th edition says that any weapon that isn't below the unit's save vaule won't penetrate... so starcannon... ap3, Space Marine..save 3+ they still get to save

No, "If the weapon's Armour Piercing value is equal to or lower than the model's Armour Save then it is sufficiently powerful to punch straight through the armour and the target gets no save at all". A quote from the 4th Edition Warhammer 40k Rulebook.

Starcannons own in 3rd edition.
Im glad they apperently still do.
3 Star cannons in a 2000 point army... good~
3 starcannons in a 2000 point army with 4BS... better.
3 starcannons in a 2000 point army with 4BS and get to reroll all misses once per round... great!

Starcannons are excellent for taking down Marines. Think about this. An Ulthwe' army with say 2 units of Black Guardians ("Defenders" have BS4), both with a Starcannon platform in them. Thats 32 BS4 S4 AP5 shots, followed by 3 BS4 S6 AP3, per unit. Basically, say bye bye to about 5 Marines per turn, per unit of Guardians. Nasty, and thats just basic units. Add in Guide, and you get to re-roll your to-hit rolls for the entire unit.

Note: 5 Marines are 75 pts. A guardian squad as described above is more then twice that :) Next you'll be telling me reapers aren't bad against SMs either...:P
