View Full Version : Combining Mods

Having just had a look around the forums here, I've seen several mods I'd like to be able to use myself, such as the Grey Knights, Tau and Necrons. My question to the modders making these mods is this:
Can you (and would you) combine these mods into one? Would you need to redo much of the coding (as in RA2, where units were all indexed, for example), or could you just download several mods and get them all working without any further trouble?

I hope !!!

I hope that the addition of new race or new units are easy like Total Annihilation.

If we have a mod to play GI, Necron, TAU, Tyranid and we cannot play GI vs Tyranid that sucks !

I hope that Units and News Race are juste files additions and they can be use in the same time !

That would be great ! But in multiplayer ...

sorry for my english :argh:

as long as u download each mod they should work with one another just fine.

Thats good news. I'm really can't wait for your Gray Knight mod Dante.

Most DoW mods will be addons, rather than total conversions (I expect). Thus you should be able to have many installed at once.
From my DoW modding experience I know that most mods will just add or modify a few game files, so as long as they dont modify each other's files they should work together just fine. :)

I'm just praying modders (coders in particular), start prefixing their code... everyone using the same tag can lead to problems (ie. Tau_FX_explosion and NOT FX_explosion).

tbh is there any point in downloading the mods individually if you cant play with them online? i mean player one with the ig may not be able to play player 2 with tau as he or the other person doesnt have the correct files on their computer.

Of course not having the same mod will be a problem, but the way a lot of these mods are looking I can imagine that plenty of people will want to download them anyway. Plus, with Relic hosting a lot of mods for its games online, I'm sure if the modders themselves agree there could be an IG mod, Tau mod etc, plus a single massive download for all the new races :) .

In this particular case, making all the race mods work, actually having them in the menu to choose by just downloading each mod is an A-OK! Because instead of having one file where it has all the race's entries, each race has a separate file that adds it to the menu, so we're fine there. Each race's buildigns and units are in separate files and folders. No I don't think there would be much conflict.
