View Full Version : An idea about Morale

Today I was watching the intro movie for the Nth time(I know...) and just when the Dreadnought killed a few orks in an instant and the sergent shout for counter attack...I got an idea about the squad morale.
What if the infantry squad has a balance value and maximum value of morale. It's kinda hard to explain so I'll just give an example.
So we just finish building a SM tactical squad and fill up the reinforcement...total of 8 members without a sergent.
The morale of the squad right now is 300 with the max value will be 400 and it should stay that way unless something happens....
now the squad is stationed to defend a fortified SP with the support of some gun turrents. A bunch of Ork slugga boys trying to cross the river but got slaughtered by the cross fire of Heavy Bolter and gun turrent. Due to the constant "winning"(or killing) the squad morale starts going up beyond the balance point(300). They might gain some attack bonus once the morale is up to a certain point like 350 or so. OK, no more ork to kill and the squad is now at peace. The morale will then slowly drop back to the balance point(300).

The whole point is that the squad should start with a normal level or morale. They might just go HIGH for doing good or LOW getting their butt kicked, but the morale will eventually goes back to the normal status instead of the max value given.

Thanks to eveyone who actually read this kinda stupid long post. I actually have only little modding experience and really no idea how much time and effort is gonna need to make this happen.... It is all just an idea.

good idea, its like rallying the troops and getting them pumped for battle. I'm all for it.

Seems like it may be done in just .lua editing and coding, but it may have to go beyond that.

Yeah, I was thinking that the rally ability by the sergent might raise the squad morale over the normal value and give the squad some advantage in the battle..

I'm not a WH40K player...just collect models :werd:
so I'm not really sure if this will cause a conflict to the original TT game.

Interessting. The basic effect you describe is afaik already in game. But I don't know whether or not the more morale that standart could be supported.

That is an smart idea. When you're routing an enemy, you don't feel "normal" about it, you're pumped and you're going to fight harder.

It would also be nice for some abilities to make use of the bonus, since falling behind in this game can spell a grizzley death if you don't fight your way back quickly.

Would make for a good mini-mod.

Cool idea but I thought this kinda of thing was already implemented as part of the morale system.

My concern with this though is:
As soon as one side starts winning and gets enough of a morale bonus, and the enemy has been losing long enough that they have a morale penalty, the winner will have an easy road here on out because of the massive advantage.

Yeah... but that's the way battle normally works. When your companions are being cut down in front of you, you usually panic and fight blindly. The winner, has adrenaline pumping already and such. Only characters like commanders shouting stuff like "Hold the line!" with their lack of morale loss, should be fighting normally when they're under assault. Which they do.

The leader units should be able to use the rally function and whatnot. If anything there shouldn't be additional morale penalities because they hurt enough as it is, but the morale bonuses seem alright.
