I've tried installing the game 4 times now. It goes throught the wizard and everything and i specify where to install to and everything. It starts installing the game and then will just all of a sudden stop and disapear. the installation guide just closes and the game doesn't install. I uninstalled the beta in case that was doing something but it didn't seem to help. What could be wrong?

That thread that you made a link to is for problems with the game installed. This guy is asking for help to install the game, not how to get the game running. My friend is also having the same problem.

Are you guys talking about the demo or Retail version?

this is for the demo version. i just tried installing it again and it gets to the point where it says "publishing product info". thats where it quits out.

Yeah, someone's reported that same problem with the Retail version... likely something with Windows Installer. No official fix for it.

The problem is it wants to install it into C but if you say no i want it in say D it goes HECK NO!!! and shuts the installer down :D :P

Try installing to C:, then just moving the directory.

the problem is with some software the registry specificly writes everything to it's location so some software won't work if you move it

also any shortcuts you had would have to be repathed

on a short note i can help with some software to OS problems now but almost all in a few months I'm curently inrolled in technical school to be a certified computer support tech

i know i was reffering to the release not the demo i'm not sure if you can get away with it i should get it in acouple hours it said it got to the shipping office in clovis so I'll see if you can get away with moveing it and i'll give a better discription on how to repath shortcuts

so i just tried installing it directly onto the c: drive. Same problem happened. Originally i was trying to install it to c:program files/THQ, the second time i tried just to c:. So i don't think that rerouting is the problem at all. None of the program gets installed onto my computer because it just crashed when it tries to publish the product details. Is there any way of fixing the windows installer or anything?

Do you have XPSP2? Do you have the XP firewall turned on?

i actually did have a firewall up but i took it off and tried the installation again and it didn't work. I do have xpsp2 as well.

Was it the XP firewall or another third party one?

it was the xp one. Now that i'm looking at this probably at a connection denial, it probably has to do wiht my school. I'm at umass amherst and the network here is kinda screwy. could they have put seperate firewalls onto the entire network that could be blocking it, and if so is there any way of me being able to bypass them. It doesn't really seem like they should be able to do something to the network that would creat esuch a problem that would interfere wiht program installations.

mmmmmm the plot thickens! You can try to uninstall XP SP2, see if that works.

First though, can you try the steps in this article?

well.
I uninstalled xpsp2 and now i can't even log onto my own computer, that is if it even wants to load far enough to the logon screen. looks like i'm gonna hafta reformat now. maybe that will actually fix the problem too.

Well that sucks :-(

For others, check out this article...

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/standard_installer_command_line_options.asp

What we'd want to do is try to run the msiexec with a command line that loads the DoW MSI file, then provides a log file.
