View Full Version : Wartracks pwn !?!
Ok, so, i've been reading up on the orc strategies so far, and felt pretty confident about my ability to last in battle, but aparently i was wrong. Played 3 straight 1on1 games and kept getting my ass kicked. Than i tried rush building up to wartracks and my all my problems went away. So if you are an orc player and are tired of getting your ass ripped to shreads than GET TO WARTRACKS ASAP!

yeah, wartraks are awesome, they are probably the only ork vehicle worth building imho. they build fast and are relatively cheap. they will give you the edge in the infantry war, and when the game moves on to vehicle combat, you can upgrade their gun to a rocket (unlike SM's landspeeder). the bomb chucka is really hard to use well imho, it will devastate morale though. 2-3 hits with it will bring just about any infantry squad to zero. the problem is it has a good chance of hitting your own infantry too and orks aren't known for staying their ground.
make sure your ork mob has fully engaged their rocket using infantry before bringing the wartraks in if they are in default twin shoota mode. send wartraks first if they are in bomb chucka to destroy morale, then pull them out and send the ork mob in.
yesterday i fought SM on valley of khorne and he managed to hold the middle with good use of cover and kept killing my big mek and killing my morale with huge flamer spec. i had to keep falling back. i then geared to get 2-3 wartraks and they provided the edge. i kept my morale broken orks engaged to keep the space marines busy while the wartraks systematically tore through the marines. by the time the fight in the middle ended, i had about 6 war traks. i was then able to make my push into his base, converting to rockets for more building destruction power.

I know the manual is most likely wrong but it states that they are also supposed to be able to upgrade to Zzap guns. I think they should put that back into the game as to give more of an edge to Da Boyz.

ya that zzap gun sounded interesting. i mean they dont ever get a lascannon or plasma so why not.

Well there is one mounted on the squiggoth but those are way to late in the game. Also why do you have to upgrade to Rokkits to get the bomb chucker? why not have seperate upgrades like the Marine dreadnought? If at all possable and balanced In the next patch they should reintroduce the wartrak Zzap gun and make it so you can just select one upgrade instead of having to upgrade two or three times.

I would like Wartrakks even better if I could either do a straight upgrade to Rokkits or Bomb Chukkas.
It would take a little tweaking but would be a rather easy change.
C'mon Relic ya know ya wanna do it.....
Though I'm sure the current setup was done on purpose for balance reasons.

whats the most effective setup for the wartrakk against space marines? i figure it would be the bomb chukka but then all my slugg a boyz get tossed, should i start to switch to shootas and go bomb chukka trakks? i have such a problem teching in mid game as i have so much to worry about. any tips?

the best setup IMO against dem tin kan humies is the bomb chucka-why??? because it reduces moral super quick, quicker than the duracell bunny on speed, it's almost sic.
A pair of them firing at a squad will break there moral in just a few volleys, then you move onto the next squad: rinse repeat, i've found this more useful than rokkits or shootas. Although the actual damage may be less than rokkit/shootas's
if a squad breaks they're combat ineffective and will return very little damage. but hey it's just my opinion :bandit:
I use Wartrakks as an early game fast artillery support, but once I'm able to start building killa kans they go by the wayside. They get targetted by anything for more than two seconds and their toast, and I'd rather have more shootas for artillery support, as they'll tend to last longer under fire IMHO.
I like their speed and the upgrades, but it doesn't help me much in a battle if they can't last in a fight. Might just be that I don't build enough since I've never had more than three on a battle field at one time.

I just tested to build wartracks as fast as I can and it worked out very well!!! I had about 5-6 wartracks but the SM player had just one lousy dread on his way. 2 wartraks equipped with rockits, 2 with bomb-chucka, and 2 with normal guns. Aside I had some sluggas and some shooters for backup. The dread was history pretty fast and the FC did't get on his toes because of rockets and bomb chuckas. VERY NICE! :)
I begin to love wartraks

Wartracks i get a.s.a.p. against every opponant now, there multi purpose (like the defiler) nothing better than sending troops flying. have to be very careful to make sure you dont hit your own troops, coz having a squad of slugga's break because of friendly fire is not big or cleaver.....

Wartrakks cut down troops like there is no tomorrow. They can take down armor with the rokkit upgrade and can chuck some bombs high into the air to rain down on their foes.
I have a major problem with them or any vehicle against Eldar. Once an Eldar player gets a few Bright Lance platforms the wartrakks are soon finished. I have found that the rokkits dont work very good on the platforms. Anyone got an effective strategy to counter the bright lance?

They count as heavy infantrty, so go after them with your Sluggas. It's really the only approach available.
Note that, no matter what you do, Brightlances probably will do some serious damage before going down. That's actually OK, as it consumes vehicle cap for the Eldar player, and is the only anti-vehicle ability Eldar have. If Brightlances weren't monsters, Eldar would be screwed.

Wartrakz are monsters... as SM, even one or two Wartraks with bomb chukkas will ruin my day if I don't have rockets yet. It's incredible, a couple of Wartraks with some Boyz will completely shred several squads of Marines and a FC.

Doomhawk just remember that a wartrakk can only be built when an ork army grows to a certain size. Killing off some men means no more wartrakks until they can build back up again. Wartrakk bomb chuckers need to be upgraded twice from the original and really only work well firing on large groups of troops.
As for assulting the brightlances with sluggas, normally the brightlances are at the back of the eldar force and the only way to get to them is through a seer council. A good plan would be to have your big mek with cutom teleporta and port them behind the eldar lines to assult the birghtlance platforms.

Eh. That's kinda true, but not really in practice. Killing troops won't slow down Trak construction under most scenarios.

My boyz came out in a bad way after a fight with an Eldar SC. Pretty much wipped all of them out and I couldnt build wartrakks anymore.

U need 41 orks wich means u need to have 5 banners to build war trucks. Its not about current army size but army size available to build.

Well, yeah, losing your ENTIRE army is one of those situations. But that's a rare thing (I hope!), and Wartraks would become unlocked again shortly (say, 30 seconds if your ENTIRE army was killed instantly).
Besides, in any decent game, entire dead army = GG, so what does it matter?

a wartrak with bomb chucka is so much fun. i like to haras the opponent with this and the speed boost is good for that quick exit.
today i was in a 2v2 and i lost everything acept 1 wartrak and a random building. i had so much fun blasting the advancing mass as they entered my allies base that i forgot that we had lost. i realy did some damage too.
imo traks missiles are only worth having in a pinch vs dreds.
