Dragoonman

When I try to run the game, it sais 'Spooge driver not found. Verify that DirectX is properly installed.'
I've installed Direct X multiple times from both the site and the game, re-installed the game twice, and it still doesn't work!
Did anyone esle get this error? How can I fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to play this awesome looking game!
Thanx!

I tried googling it and it sounds like one possible solution is to update your video drivers. The irony is that when I googled, almost everything found was archived Relic Forums posts lol.

Not being an expert in computers, I don't know where to find my Video card capabilities. Or are you talking about somethign else? I have Windows XP home edition, where would I find that info?
I did find some thing called 'NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64' Does that sound like a video card? If so, is it good enough? How would I go about updating it?

Double Post

I downloaded the update from the Nvidia web site, and it still doesn't work! Any other suggestions?

Reignfire
23rd Sep 04, 7:08 PM
Yes, that's your video card and I think that you might need a newer one. I can tell you how to update your video drivers (software for you video card), but I'm a bit hesitant since your need familiar with software drivers.

Double Post

Did you try uninstalling the old drivers first?

Dragoonman

If I were to buy a newer Video Card, what would your reccomend? Best quality for alower price range please, I'm on a bit of a budget.

Reignfire
23rd Sep 04, 7:14 PM
Can you give an approx. amount?

Dragoonman
23rd Sep 04, 7:16 PM
I dunno, what's the range that they go for?

Reignfire
23rd Sep 04, 7:18 PM
http://www.pricewatch.com/ for approximate amounts.

Dragoonman
23rd Sep 04, 7:24 PM
300$ maybe, less if possible

Reignfire

Well, the best cards out now are the RADEON X800 and the GeForce 6800. A step down from those would be RADEON 9800 and GeForce 5950 or 5900. If you want to save more money, you could go to a GeForce 5700 or 5600 (I'm not sure what the RADEON equivalent would be).

Do you know if your card is AGP or PCI? To check, right-click on the desktop -> properties. Click the settings tab and then the advanced button. There should be a tab with the name of your card. Look to see if it mentions AGP or PCI. (I'm not sure if it's setup that way with older cards).

Just looking at the futureshop website, would the Leadtek Winfast A360TD LE 256MB GeForce Video Card work? It says that its powerd by a nVIDIA's GeForce FX 5700LE GPU. I read on the bug report forum that that would work.

Agp

PS: Do you want to talk an AIM? It would be easier.

You might want to make sure the rest of your system specs meet the requirements first before you look into just a video card.

Minimum System Requirements:
Windows® 98/2000/XP/ME
DirectX 9.0b (included on disc),
1.4 GHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon XP processor
256 MB RAM
2 GB free hard drive space
4x CD-ROM drive

DirectX 9.0b compatible AGP video card with Hardware Transform and Lighting and 32MB of Video RAM.

DirectX 9.0b compatible 16-bit sound card
Keyboard
Mouse.

Recommended Spec:
2.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent,

512 MB System RAM (required for 8-player multiplayer games).

nVidia GeForce 3 or ATI Radeon 8500 or equivalent with 64 MB of Video RAM.

Required For Multiplayer:
1 disc/player per computer.
Internet: Cable modem, DSL or 56.6 kbps modem, for online multiplayer play
Network: TCP/IP compliant network.

A $75 video card meets reccomended specs. Pick up a GFX5200 if you just wanna clear it. $300 is not "a bit of a budget" for video cards, though. $300 is "I have a lot of money to spend on video cards." :D

Reignfire
25th Sep 04, 12:38 AM
The card he mentioned is ~$120 on pricewatch. Not quite your $75 card, but better than $300.

Anyone with some advice, besides buy a new card? Problem is game works fine, Intro movie is fine, but all the letters are blurred on the game. This includes the menu characters also. Using Directx9c, 128 mb card. Any hints of what I need to do? Have installed and deleted multiple times trying to figure it out.

Any suggestions and tips, would be appreciated.

DoW will not work without hardware T&L, which basicly rules your TNT2 out. Infact if you're still using a TNT2 why do you bother spending money on new games?

Guys, I had left this thread open due to the fact that it turned into a discussion on video cards. However it appears to be going back to a discussion about the spooge driver, as such I am moving it.

Buy a new one. That one won't run the game. I'm afraid the rest of your system might be below minimum specs as well.

Grizzlybear
2nd Jan 05, 9:24 AM
Hello all,

I too have installed Dawn of War and I get Spooge Driver not found: Please check Direct X is installed properly.

My graphics card is Nvidia TNT2 MODEL64 AGP 2X 32MB RAM.

My machine is 1GHZ Intel Celeron processor, 320B RAM, 40GB drive running Windows XP Pro.

Should I upgrade my graphics card too and if so to what. I am on a budget and can't afford a lot. What is T&L also please?

Moe
2nd Jan 05, 10:14 AM
Your card does not support Dawn of War. I'm afraid you will need a new one.
That CPU is below minimum specifications as well.

T&L is hardware transform&lighting. All newer cards support it.

Grizzlybear
3rd Jan 05, 11:31 AM
hi,

we are not bothered if the game runs a tad slow, as long as it runs.
So if i buy a Nvidia Geforce 3, 4 or FX card that will be ok then?
As someone who has no idea about video cards is there somewhere on the web which will show me how to remove the old one and put the new one in?

everything else meets the minimum or recommended specs. just the video card and processor speed.

Moe
3rd Jan 05, 1:18 PM
The game simply won't run on TNT2 cards, it's got nothing to do with running slow.

GEforce3 or 4 cards will be fine, as will Radeon 8500 and above.

Grizzlybear
5th Jan 05, 1:21 AM
What do you recommend about the processor?
Never installed or ought or even dont know anyhting about grpahics cards.
Is there anything I should be made aware of when selecting which brand to buy?

Moe
5th Jan 05, 4:10 AM
Look, your main board won't support any modern CPU, your RAM is very old as well, and your graphics card is ancient. I'm afraid you're looking at a full system upgrade. Depending on your budget, that can cost anywhere from about 600 to 3000 dollars.

Grizzlybear
5th Jan 05, 11:33 AM
we have more tham enough RAM to run the game. and a 40gb drive.
all we need is a graphics card and a faster processor.
the graphics card alone will cost £25!
all we want to do is run this game, not control cape canaveral.

Moe
5th Jan 05, 2:28 PM
A modern processor, even if it's not high-end, will not fit on your motherboard. You need a new one. Is your RAM DDR? If not, I'm not sure if a new board will support SDRAM, so you may be looking at new RAM as well.

As stated in the minimum system requirements listed on the box, a video card with full TnL (Transformation and Lighting) is required to play the game. TnL is a feature of some graphics cards which allows the video card to perform advanced transformation and lighting internally.

If your video card has an unsupported chipset, there is nothing you can download or adjust to make the game to work. The only option to be able to play the game is to purchase a video card that has one of the supported chipsets. If you purchase a card, inquire to make sure it fully supports TnL. See your hardware vender for advice.

If your video card supports Transformation and Lighting and meets all the minimum system requirements, please follow these steps. Make sure you have the latest video card driver from the manufacturer's website.

Make sure the 3D hardware acceleration is turned all the way up.
1) Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties.
2) Select the Performance tab and click the Graphics button.
3) Make sure the acceleration slider is set to Full.

For Windows XP and 2000:
1) Click on the Start button > Settings > Control Panel.
2) Double-click the Display icon.
3) Click the Settings tab.
4) Click the Advanced button.
5) Click the Troubleshoot tab.
6) Make sure the acceleration slider is set to Full.

Set your desktop to a resolution of 800x600, 32 bit True Color.
1) Right-click on your desktop and select Properties.
2) Click the Settings tab.
3) Set your screen area to 800x600.
4) Set the colors to 32 Bit (True Color). Under Windows NT this will be listed as 65554 colors.
5) Click Apply and OK to save your settings.

All background applications must be shutdown prior to running the game.

You need 256MB of RAM for DoW, but you only have 128.
You need a faster processor than the one you have.
And your graphics card is too old.

You need to upgrade your system.

That card will not run Dawn of War.
You can get a new one at any computer store, or on the internet, for example at http://www.newegg.com/
A Radeon 9200 such as this one: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-287&depa=1
will run the game fine, provided the rest of your computer is good enough.

Your CPU is way too slow, and your graphics card won't run Dawn of War. You also barely meet the minimum RAM requirement. I'm afraid you'll have to upgrade at least your CPU and graphics card (probably your main board as well, since modern CPUs won't fit on the old P-III sockets) if you want to play DoW.

Like Moe says your system will not be able to run the game. I've gotten the game to run on a 1.1 Ghz Athlon with a Geforce 4 and 256 MB of ram. It's playable there, but its not uberawesome either. The graphics card I can definetly say no to, since I have a card the Rage Fury barely has 3D support. I'd say you need at least a Geforce 2 (I don't remember if the Geforce 256 had T&L) or a Radeon 8500. You can probably pick up one of those $300-$400 dollar computers (if it uses something other then a celeron) and throw a cheap Geforce FX 5200 (runs pretty well on mine) to run the game. However, I'm not one to recommend upgrading just for games unless you have a specific need. I did notice your monitor is only running at 60 Hz? I recommend upping that to at least 70, if not 75 or so. I know a lot of people who complained about headaches or eyes only for me to find it was running at 60.

A friend of mine just got DoW, and is have the Spooge problem. She assures me she has the requirements listed on the box, the only thing I can think of is her video card, which she says is called a S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR. She's had her comp about a year, and another of my friends runs the game fine with a much older (and crappier) PC. Is this vid card non-compatable with DoW, and what do you suggest she purchase if so?

yeah that card is unsupported. What to buy instead depends on her budget.

Um... not sure. What's the cheapest she could get by on, and what's a decent one that will last her awhile (not overly expensive). That should be enough for my to look into and help her decide.

I use a radeon 9800 pro which you can get for ~$150 now. Its getting on in age but is still a good card - and will run DoW fine and also serve her well for any other games she might want to run.

The radeon 9200SE is very cheap here: http://www.shopzilla.com/12--Sapphire_ATI_Radeon_9200SE_128_MB_Graphics_Card_-_cat_id--405__prod_id--228932774

however, you get what you pay for - the 9200 was released as the budget model alongside the 9800 which was the top of the range model at the time. As such it will run DoW but its not going to impress you. You would probably be better going for the 9600 (http://www.shopzilla.com/12--Sapphire_RADEON_9600_128_MB_Graphics_Card_-_cat_id--405__prod_id--318660623) which was the midrange card and is now available for little more than the 9200. Again, it isnt brilliant but its better than a 9200 and will run DoW adequately.

Nvidia do their own range of competing cards which you could also look into.

If you want something more flash then it will cost quite a bit more, have a look an the nvidia and ati websites to view their current ranges. Bare in mind that your friend may not be able to have a PCI express video card (old motherboard).

Ok, I've just fixed my 'Spooge Driver" problem, but now I'm having trouble creating a profile on the game. After I type the profile's name and click 'Create", it simply clears the text box and there is no new profile. It's not invisible, and I can do everything else, as normal (though it is only hitting three buttons). My computer meets the requirements, except the processor, but I've been able to run the game on this computer in the past (I've had to reinstall the game as my computer crashed and my OS had to be reinstalled as well). Anyone have any similar problems? Any advice on fixing it?

Ive heard about people with this problem - its a weird one...apparantly it happens occasionally when you install the game and patch up without running it and setting up a profile first.

Uninstall, reinstall, start game, create profile, patch.

Actually, I think you have to click Create Profile first before typing in the name.
