I played this game a few weeks in open Beta , using mainly SM and Eldar. I have a basic BO for CSM, what I am looking for is mid game tips and units that you guys have found useful at Tier2.

Possessed Chaos Space Marines are really good, especially if you group them with your heros. They really shine, however, when you get them every upgrade possible. I've seen two squads chew through most of my opponents army before they go down.

If your looking for any race BO or strats

But, for now:

Horros are very good vs heavy infantry. They will rape eldar units especially. just make sure they arent close enough to get engaged in CC.
Possesed Marines are good, but dont just rely on them, enemy sqauds equiped with Flamers can break their morale in seconds, rendering them useless.
Raptors are ok for tying up sqauds in CC, as are cultists.

I would say vs SM or CSM or Eldar give your CSM's plasma guns or flamers.
Vs orks give them heavy bolters
And also, a sqaud with 4 rocket launchers can take most vehicles out, especially with the accuracy upgrades.

Defilers are pretty good mid game, just remember to support them.

Predators arent so good at tier 2, because they dont get the lascannon upgardes til tier 3.

I guess what im saying is, Chaos at tier 2 is more about making what you have got available stronger. Than actually having better units available, because the best Chaos ifantry (excluding tier3 units) are availabe at tier1.

-note- Im not saying dont build units at tier 2, im saying, stick with the possesed/horrors and basic CSM, keep building them, and keep upgrading them!!!

And remember, to upgrade your Chaos Lord via the sacrificial pit.

Hope that helps

actually horrors are good vs inf and struggle vs heavy inf ;)

possesed are the meatshield of the chaos army.

something very good in tier 2 is getting plasma guns for commander units. get it in armory for 40 10 and u get a 5th plasma gun in every squad for 75 req ( including a better cc fighter + more helath :P )

Horrors are just generally good at shooting most infantry up :P

Ok general tips for chaos is make use of forced labour, this will give you a slight advantage in almost all fields if used properly. A few seconds here a few seconds there can put you ahead when dealing with early problems and cutting the gap between new buildings for higher tiers if you need them asap.

As stated horrors are nice units and generally good vs all infantry, best use of them is to keep deep striking on battles and behind their lines so you can possibly draw fire from elsewhere. Try to avoid moving horror across the entire map with your army once the battle is over. If you're close enough load them back up and use them for the next battle. Horror excell in greater numbers and their fire for the most part has some degree of follow to it so they will get those runners.

Posessed with all upgrades you cant really say anything bad about them except avoid sending them against CC vehicles and do your best to keep their moral up. Once broken they really become dead weight. Attach a hero to a posessed squad to give it a major boost, i believe attaching the CL to a posessed squad gives it like 150 moral bonus. With tier 2 upgrades posessed can lay waste to bases exceptionally fast. In addition to avoiding things like flamers and artillery avoid plasma, plasma will cut your posessed down, but if you get into melee your safe so that speed upgrade is great assumign you're not heavily outnumbered.

Defilers are glass jaw but are very good at killing a variety of things if left to their own devices. Also they are cheap when compared to other vehicles so you can get more of them faster.

Cultists are a tricky unit to use properly, grenades comming into an already engaged battle are a great way to turn the battle just micro them around to avoid most fire, or if you need fodder just send them in and overwatch they can take a beating in melee but at ranged battles (discounting grenades) they are quite useless.

My BO:
1. Temple (Start building overwatched CSMs immediately when finished)
2. 2 Cultist Units
3. Heretic
4. Cultist Unit
5. Armory
6. Set all cultist squads in overwatch

Sometime after that I build listening stations if necessary, but mostly I just start with marines, build lots more marines, toss in a lord when I have time, and keep chasing after requisition. The important thing to remember is to keep ALL of the cultist squads in ONE ctrl-select unit for a quick defense against a rush. Combined with a squad or two of marines it can make for a really bloody HTH bloodbath, just don't waste the cultists in ranged combat, that's when they get mowed down.
