i enter the code on the back of my manuel, and it starts to install, but then it stops... and it comes up with this...

"Error 1311.Source file not found: D:\Data.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it"

so then i click cancel...witch i have to do because i cant install it!

and it comes up with this...

"Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult windows installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

i have just bought it an few minutes ago and i do meet all the req's.

the "code"?, you mean the CD Key? the Key is on CD 3, a little tricky to find tho.

yes i have entered the code but that is not the problem... sorry i didnt make it clear on my first post...have edited it now.

and yes D: is my CD drive...

maybe its an omen...maybe the almighty one is telling me to not play this game and get something else!

i mean for crying out loud i have waited for this game for months...the demo works fine. but when i get the game THIS happens!

The cd-key is on the back of my manual as well. Have you actually looked on the cd to check to see if data.cab is on there?

Install it on your hard drive not CD drive. (Most likely C:)

yes but its not about the CD key...the CD key is accepted! BUT my problem is when i try to install it...it runs for about 1 1/2 seconds then cuts out with the error as shown above in my first post...this is REALLY hacking me off :(

Kaskrin, have you uninstalled the demo? Somewhere on the forum are a couple of post saying that it is best to get rid of all other versions of DoW...

Look around (http://forums.relicnews.com/forumdisplay.php?f=125) in here. Someone else has most likely had the problem you are having.

have you checked that the file it actualy on the cd ( as sugested earlier in the thread) also, check to data side of the cd for scratches and give it a good clean.

btw, did you get it from play.com?

Open the CD with explorer, and do a search for the missing file. See if it can be found on the CD.

one thing you could try is copy the cd to your hard disk and install from that, game probably wont work, but it would prove if your drive is fubard or not

You aren't the only one with this problem...I had the same problem before. I copied the cd to the hard drive and it would install but would crash when it hit the bugreport.exe file. Uber tried everything he could come up with to fix the problem and nothing worked. It is not the cd, it is your computer...I eventually decided to format and that fixed the problem

There's info in the microsoft knowledge base on this error (1311) and another one I ran across (1335)
See articles 325076 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325076) & 314810 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314810)

For the second one, I set a MAXMEM value of half my system RAM, and it worked. Note: this LOCKS OUT your memory above that point, so you will want to unset it after install

my dad has bailed out on me...stupid dads girlfreind with her "i dont think its wise" type attitude! so now im back to square 1...

i have tryed everything thats been done...Ian i have tryed the first article you suggested, and it started to install...BUT then it got to the Bugreport things and crashed!!! i have tryed the second one also...and both.

so im going to have to format my comp like Darktide said...

Does anyone know how to format a computer? as i have donre it before but i just want to make sure i get it right...
