im not able to connect to gamespy, ive been trying last night and some this morning. i registered a DoW account in the game but then im not able to logon. i read the warnings.log and i couldnt connect to peerchat.gamespy.com, i have played other games taht use gamespy which i couldnt connect to the chat service becuase my school blocks port 6667 for some rediculous reason. theres gotta be a way around this if this is the problem.

Get your school to unblock port 6667.

but say that they werent willing to unblock ports. then im just not going to be able to play this game on gamespy? are there any game server browsers out that support DoW? its kind of rediculous that i cant play online becuase i simply cant chat with other people in the lobby :/ . is there a way to change peerchat.gamespy.com's listening port to 7000 or one of the other irc ports?

I suggested that to mecha during the beta, not sure if he got it implemented though... hopefully I can get him to look at this thread (or he'll spot it himself) and reply.
You can play direct TCP/IP games most likely. You could use the community IRC server to try and hook up some games in the meantime.

that would be great. i know for a fact that i have port 7000 free. ive tried getting my school to unblock 6667, but for some reason they wouldnt accept "irc" as a valid reason to change. :(
or at least get the ports on the server ranged from 6667-7000.
if its possible :D

So then I'm basically hosed then? My school won't open anything up, so there's no way to play the $40 game i just bought online without doing dirrect tcpip or lan?

Possibly, we'll see if Mecha put in anything to connect to a different port.

I have left a not-so-subtle message for the programmer via MSN ;-)

Any word on a work around? I'm still dying to play online.

Nope, best thing I can suggest right now is to come to IRC and play direct connect games... but you won't be able to host that way :-)
Relic's going to examine the port issue for a future patch.

We need to get DOW on things like All Seeing Eye and Gamespy-standalone!

I can magically play games online now, even host, so i've got no idea what it was, but im assuming it had something to do with the 1.01 patch (once i got it to install).
