Only one person is allowed to join a direct connect server at a time. this isn't a router issue or a firewall problem. I'm trying to play with 4 people, and all of us can join each other's games unless someone else is in the game already, in which case we are refused by the host. any suggestions?

I'm using a D-link dl-614+ router, my friends are all on different routers.
all of us have different firewall configurations, but we are all able to join and play successfully, just never more than 2 in a game at once. out of 4 people we have tried every combination, and we've concluded that it isn't us or our firewalls, because otherwise we wouldn't have been able to join a game and play.
where is the warning.log file that you want me to find for you?

Same issue here, we are on a microsoft mn-100 router. Dont have any issues with any other games at this point. We try to use directhost, one person can join in, but whoever is 3rd, gets host has refused the connection.
This is a bizaar issue, but is a very annoying one to say the least. None of us are running SP2, however everything else is up-to-date.

Reaps, and snafe, can you guys post your warnings.log file here please? It will help uber and any of the relic guys figure out whats happening. The file is in C:\Program files\THQ\Dawn of War\ and it can be opened with word. Just copy the contents and paste it here.

I really hope we can get this issue resolved because its important to have this Option available to anyone that either cant, or chooses not to use gamespy to play a multiplayer game.
Also it was mentioned earlier in the other thread about this issue, that this issue did not exist in the beta. So maybe code needs to be compared between the two and see why the direct connect option isnt working in the retail, when it worked fine in the beta.

Yep, it works with some routers and not others. Not much we can do about it really.
This was in a previous thread about this issue. It was posted by Mecha. One thing i wanted to wonder is, where is this list of routers that work? I dont recall seeing any routers in the requirements to play the game. Honostly its good timing for me, cause i need a good reason to get a new router. But i didnt see anywhere on the box where it showed compatible routers. If there is some that you can post here id appreciate it, also if the issue can be resolved that would be even better.

I really don't think it has anything to do with routers per say, but the way the server sends the client identifying IPs. (or vice versa) It looks like the clients must be able to connect with each other or the server is trying to connect to a client's internal IP. If the server sends one client the internal LAN IP of another client, they will never get the chance to connect to each other and if the server has the second client's internal IP, it will never be able to respond back to the keepalive packet.

According to this, your communicating to the server, but it's not responding back...I'll almost guarantee the server log shows that it was trying to connect to 192.168.0.10 and was unable to.

From that log, it looks like he is connecting to Gamespy (Internet Game) and your trying to direct connect. Are you sure he was selecting Direct Host?

I'm not sure, but I'll assume the German has the 4 choices the English version has in Multiplayer. LAN, Internet, Direct Host, and Direct Join. If you want to Direct Join, the host should be selecting Direct Host. From the log of the host, it appears they are selecting internet. By selecting Internet it's logging into Gamespy. If you Direct connect, your bypassing Gamespy and the server is trying to communicate to you through Gamespy. As far as you being able to connect to him without the other player directly, it shouldn't work if he's on GS. This may be another bug that's allowing his GS server the ability to accept Direct connect games.

Those lines tell me his PC is logging into Gamespy. I'm trying to help out the community here, not trying to make you out to be "stupid". The point I'm getting at is that for some reason, he's connecting to Gamespy. Your doing direct connect and it's allowing you to connect to him. Please don't take the posts the wrong way. As I said before, I'm trying to help. I'm not payed to do this and not employed by the game company, but I want to get it resolved so everyone will have the ability to play.

hopefully uber drops by soon, or one of the devs come on and let us know whats going on, cause this seems to be a issue experenced by alot of people. Maybe its something that needs to be patched? Well if there is a line of code that can be corrected, or if a file can be provided to make this issue work, while we wait for a patch that would be great. Pleeeease fix ty :D .

Having the same problem here. One can host and the other join fine, but after that everyone else gets a 'Connection Refused by Host' message.

Everyone please post your warnings.log file on here, we need em all :). So we can see the consistency in the way the network is being handled and stuff. So that when uber, or a relic dev finally stumbles in here, they will be able to look right at the issue.

i've tried direct host with 3 different people and none of them whatsoever could join a direct game. i tried to join one, they tried to join mine... nothing seemed to work at all. no firewall/router/anything would work. this needs to be patched and fast.

right. and we found an other bug that two people with the same ip can not join the same gamespy mulitplayer game. One of us gets a timeout. -> WC3 not ! so it is not our router.

Agreed! I have the utmost confidence Relic will.. DirectConnect is what all my colleagues use for our local DoW league so their in a "holding pattern" right now. If we're desperate we'll do 3 players at a time but we're in waiting at present.

Yep. Same problem here. Connection works fine before the 3rd person tries to connect. And if 2nd person disconnect the 3rd person can connect. Though he's now the 2nd person and the old 2nd person cannot connect anymore ;)
It is absolutely clearly the problem of the game, not network. Actually two of our group are some sort of network experts.

Yeah. It's just that my group has 4 NAT guys :) So only one of'em can play :l
How can a bug like this remain.
I managed to play with 3 guys when I (on of the NAT guys) created a game and one with no NAT connected. After that the game accepted one more NAT guy. It's just that in this part of world most of the customer connections are NAT(ed).

Yeaa.. PC Game companies need to *fully understand* that the world is largely becoming "NATifed" to protect itself from the spam/mal/spyware evils of the Internet! I recommend them to all my clients and its great! Now if only game companies could ensure they do thorough testing with NATs using DirectConnect.
However, I have the utmost confidence Relic will deliever the goods and fix this issue! :beer:

Still - it would be nice if they gave us some sort of indication as to whether they plan on fixing it, or even that they know the problem exists yet. Having a patch come out and then not having any sort of fix for this problem is a bit worrying lol

Unfortunately, that link resolved nothing anyway. Its an internal DoW DirectConnect netcode/logic issue and looks to be resolved in the next patch!
There is no real way to get DirectConnect working beyond 3 people. I can only get the 3rd person in if I (a NAT user) host the game then the Non-NAT player joins, then a 2nd player joins (Nat user) after him. A fourth person is outta luck whether he is NAT or not. Maybe I'll Non-Nat myself tonight and try. Just real annoying but will be SO RELIEVED once its resolved. I have many colleagues waiting for this fix.
