View Full Version : Definatly choppy!

First off this game rocks, best rts i've played in years and mostly due to the fantastic athmosphere it manages to convey.

Shame i can't enjoy it as much as i'd like. I've seen a few threads about the framerate problem. The game is pretty choppy for me, the fps will constantly be unstable through a mission with a constant frequency and an increasing severity as more units enter the fray.

The problem i believe lies somewhere in the AI. There are 2 things that lead me to believe this.
1. When a battle is over and one can scroll around the map without anything moving it is pretty much smooth and acceptable.
2. In the ingame rendered opening sequences on mission one, it is perfectly smooth in displaying the battle. Yet once the mission starts, here comes the choppyness.

Any suggestions would be welcome, although i plan on upgrading my PC soon. This game is too damn awesome to have to play it like this ;)

hmm your pc specs are good (verry good :s)
and I didnt see enything wrong in the warnings.log.

The only thing I can say is the advice of a wise man

Download the lates driver for your 3d Card/Videocard
(Uberjumper is the man  :s)

Get rid of the Ti. Those things aren't much better than a geforce 2 card. I recomend a geforce fx 5200 if your scrimping and scraping for an update.

Just the TI are all the TI?

I have Gforce4 Ti4200 and i havnt had a problem yet (I play all grafics in DOW on high , but shadows on medium)

Oh wait I was thinking the geforce 4 mx series. Those arent much better than geforce 2s.

GeForce4 TI cards are much faster than GeForce 2's - it's the GeForce4 MX (and GeForce 2 MX) cards that you have to avoid.

Geist: Unfortunately I can't recommend much other than a faster CPU. As several people are having what appears to be an issue with the AI, it'll probably need to wait for a patch. There were very similar problems with the AI in the beta and those were resolved to the best of our knowledge (and testing), but it looks like there were more hiding away that weren't found.

lol thought soo :s (thank god I took the TI one :s)

Your processor and videocard are a *little* slow for this game. But yeah, make sure you're running the detail levels at medium with that system, and if its still choppy while scrolling than just hang tight... I'm sure there will be a fix before too long.

WHAT??? Slow???

i have a cpu 1700 and Gforce4 ti 4200 (64 mb or 128mb, dont know)

and I have all grafics (except shadows) on high and still play a good 4v4 game (lag occures when BIG battles occure)

never have problems, (Overheating does occure, but i just have to take the places of my pc-tower and the heating goes away (I have 5 coolers also: 1 on cpu, 1 on Vga, 1 at power-sys and 2 regular coolers)

The problem at hand doesn't manifest itself in multiplayer. Only when computer AI comes into play. Even some people with top-of-the line systems are having problems in that instance. How do you fare in singleplayer with that setup?

Guilliman

single player goes smooth.
but Ii only have lag when me and 4+cpu players are in :s

single player is smooth (appart from major battles)

His specs are fine for the game, I have a PIV 2.26 w/ Ti4200 (now 6800 GT OC) and I could play with no problems as long as I turned shadows off.

That's the best thing I can recommend actually, shutting the shadows off for that card.

Thanks for the replies :) As for shadows, yes i've turned them off, infact turning any of the settings to high or low and backwards has little effect on the general choppyness.
I guess ill wait for an upgrade or the patch.

Geist, there may be another process interferring with the game... did you try to use msconfig to shut off everything extra?

Defragged, etc?
