This is a great game, but despite turn stuff off and medium, the game's grfx still lag a bit - usually with three squads in battle on Mission 2. My specs are

P4 2.0 -ASUS P4B 533 FSB
512 DDR
Geforce 4 Ti4400

I was thinking of upgrading my card anyway. I was looking at the BFG Geforce 6800 OC (not GT OC), and wanted people's opinions. I was hoping to pick up a card that would not only run this well, but be good for a couple of years.

Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

Have you thought about purchasing more ram as well?

Search around, the full version is having some kind of laggy choppy problem for a lot of people. Even with setting the specs down to medium.

With that said, Dawn Of War is harder on the CPU than the graphics card. You can actually upgrade to a 3.0 ghz Pentium 4 if you wanted to (but the 533mhz fsb would set your back a bit.) Depending on how much money you have, I'd go ahead and get a new motherboard and cpu.

For a new videocard, the 6800 is really good and definitely a strong purchase, but if you have the money, going for the GT is worth it! Additionally, your CPU is too slow to take advantage of the power of these new generation videocards. A 2.8 ghz Pentium 4 or higher (or an Athlon 64) is usually recommended to utilize the 6800 to near its full potential. You could actually sell your GeForce 4400 nicely on eBay. I've seen it go for over $100!

More memory will help as well.

I've just gone from a Ti4200 to a BFG 6800 GT OC and it rocks, although with my 2.26 Ghz 1GB of Ram system, it was still quite playable with my old card.

Funny, I'm running the game on:

AMD Athln 800
1 Gig PC 133 Ram
Radeon 8500 128MB Ram
Sound Blaster Gamer 5.1

The game runs smoth as silk with absolutly no problems. I play with everthing on Med detail

Try turning your down Shadow setting to low/none if it is not already. I have a Ti 4400 w/128MB and it runs quite well with high textures and model detail (on my home machine).

Hi George:

Yeah, I turned everything to low, and turned Shadows Off, and it runs better, but not by much. Incidentily, I decided to upgrade my RAM to 1 GB (PC2100). I haven't tried to reinstall, but the memory hasn't really helped. In the beginning of Mission 1 or Mission 3, scrolling over my units and the like is really choppy.

On the other hand mind you, I haven't really been in major battles since I upgr. memory. So maybe it will help there.

I spoke with a techie at BFG - the graphic card manufacturer, and he suggested a RAM upgr. for this type of game, rather than a Geforce 6800 OC. Anyway, any advice (or patch) would be appreciated.

I have everything maxed out at 1280x1024... I have p4c800-e dlx, p4 3 ghz, 1gb xms3200LL DDR400, 9800XT 128MB and the game is jerky... Next I'm going to downtune some settings and see if that helps...

Everything is ok when there are a couple of squads on the map... When there are 5 or 6 more the game starts to lag a bit.

Not too much though... I can see some problems being worked out in a future patch so I'm not worried.

Hi everyone:

For some reason, the game seems choppy or doesn't run well when I'm in battle or moving the cursor over the troops. I'm considering upgrading to a BFG Geforce 6800 OC, because upgrading my RAM has done very little. Any suggestions? Here is my dxdiag and warning file. Should I reinstall, or do what? Even with settings on low, it seems to chop up. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Mod Edit, you've already posted the DXDIAG information in this thread. I've merged this post into this thread. Stick to this one. Thanks!

Hi everyone:

I have a P4 2.0 533 FSB
1 GB DDR RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4400

I'm interested in upgrading either my CPU or Graphics, but I'm not sure which one would be most appropriate for this game. The technical guys at BFG Tech, who make the Geforce 6800's said a CPU would be the better choice because the game depends more on the CPU.

Which should be a better upgrade? I'm confused...thanks.

You shouldn't really need to upgrade at all

I've got a P4 2.26 Ghz with 1GB of memory, and had a GeForce 4 Ti4200 and the game ran fine.

I have the demo at present, does the full game require more than the demo?

i have:
Athlon 2400+
256mb PC2100 RAM (next upgrade for another 512)
Gefore 2 MX400

i'm running the demo in 800x600(16), FX detail high, Texture detail High, full 3d camera on, unit occulasion (SP?) on and everything else on low. i hate having FX detail and Texture detail on,low cus i then can't see my badges well, they're all blurry.

but i'm getting my full version at the end of the week so do i need to tone down more stuff? i run the demo at an ok FPS as well.

Uber Jumper:

Then how do you explain my somewhat poor performance? Any advice or do you think these problems will be addressed with a patch?

Thanks.

Bhral:

Note that the demo is locked at medium textures even though you can select High.

Oscar:

You may be experiecing what a bunch of other users are experiencing when it comes to graphical slowdown. Try running the game on the lowest settings, and see how it performs.

Also, the graphicsconfig.log might identify other problems.

Thanks. However, I have no adware, my drive is defragged, and I'm only running 19 proccesses...What else can I do.

I assume you have a 128MB 4200Ti? If so, increase your AGP Aperature size to 128 or 256MB and see if that helps any.

lol i'm running it on an athlon xp 2800, 256mb pc2700 ram and a gforce4mx420, i have everything on high and it still runs smooth, it doesn't go extremely fast but it's still very playable. did i mention i love this game i used to play warhammer 40k epic ... now thats a game i'd love to see watching my emperor titan rock the battlefield smashing a few ork gargans(is that what they were called?) any that'd be cool.

Yeah I increased it to 128. Here is my GraphicsConfig file as well - although not sure what it could tell you. Cheers.

I own the following system:

P4 2.0 GHZ w/ FSB 533
1 GB PC2100 DDR
Geforce 6800 OC 128 MB (now running 66.32 beta drivers)
Win XP Home SP1 fully updated
all other drivers fully updated.

While my machine is by no means the best out there, I think it's pretty damn good. So do the guys at BFG Tech. However, WH40k Dawn of War does not.

After installing my new card, going through the motions, configing the BIOS, then updating my chipset, I thougt, "Wow WH40k is going to be awesome." Boy was I wrong.

I can't even tell the diff. in performance from my Ti4400. Originally, I was running the game with the 61.77 drivers, but the people at BFG suggested the beta drivers. But to no avail.

Then I thought it was the CPU, but that really can't be. I even ran it by the guys at BFG Tech and they said that it's "highly unlikely." More likely, they quipped, was that it was the game itself.

What's going on here? There's no way that some people here can be running it on a slower CPU, with slower cards, and getting perf. than me. Very strange. Congrats to all out there, but what am I doing wrong? Any help or suggestions would be certainly welcome.

I guess I will go back to playing Far Cry until THQ addresses the disparity in results everyone has been getting with this game.

Until then, here is my new DXDIAG and warnings file (from the demo because I thought I could get better results than the final release.) Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.

Cheers :)

Post your graphicsconfig.log file, and your local.ini file as well please.

Also, make sure your graphics aperture size is the same as your vid card memory (so 128 by the looks of it).

Thanks for your replay Uber.

I re-installed the retail version again. I played 1v1 skirmish on medium detail. Even before the first battle began, the scrolling, and movement of sqauds seemed choppy. Whatever you can do to help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Uber. Here are my files:

What happens if you turn shadows down? I've got a BFG 6800 GT OC and it's pretty slick with the game, but even better with shadows off.

Wa-[81]-T5
30th Sep 04, 11:55 PM
Hey there.....
The 6800GT is a good card but too expensive. For the same amount of cash you could buy an 800fsb mobo, a 3G P4 and a 9800Pro (or a 9600XT and 512Mb reg DDR400 RAM).
I run a 2.8G p4, 533fsb
1G RAM DDR333
9600XT 256MB (128Mb is better value & faster)

and the game runs fine at 1024x768 with everything on (apart from 'buggy' sound)

If you upgrade to a 6800GT you'll quickly find that your mobo/CPU and RAM hold back the cards full potential. Give it 6 mths till the newer 512Mb cards arrive on the market and the 256Mb cards price will drop........

I have a 2.1 ghz processor, 512 MB DDR (400 mhz) and a GeForce FX 5700 - 256 MB DDR, running on Windows XP . Should my AGP aperture size in my BIOS be set to 128 or 256? Maybe this could help, as things aren't running as they should, even on medium/low detail.

As Uberjumper said, there is no reason this game should not run on my specs. I'm really at a loss as to why this is.

Here you go Uber. Thanks again. Even when I run the game on low settings, with shadows off it's choppy. I also tried disabling my sound card via Dev. Man. and made no difference. Cheers.

Also, try rolling back to Forceware 56.72 drivers if you could.

Uberjumper:

Rolled back the drivers, but no success. Tried playing with antivirus off before and made no difference. This is beginning to look hopeless. I really hope THQ is gathering all these logs and running tests/ correlating data to find out the problem. It really sounds like a SW problem.

Hmmmm do you have the Full 3d Camera option turned on in game?

Hey friend:

On or off, it doesn't matter. Same result.

You know I was running FRAPS to see what kind of results I would get. In the Main Menu screen, I get 85 fps (maxed out due to me refresh rate set to 85 -1024x768). First mission, it starts at 40, and then as soon as things start moving or scrolling, it hovers between 24 and 29 fps, sometimes dipping to 19 fps. It's just unbelievable.

I know this is an unfair comparison, but in Warcraft 3, it starts at 70 fps in game, and hovers between 50-60 fps, never going very low except in major game-deciding battles.

Hi all:

I just ran 3dmark 03 and the results I received (8500 marks on program default settings) are comparable with people with a 3.0 GHZ processor and same graphic card. Now by no means do I take this for the gospel that my computer is running in tip-top shape, but it does lead me to believe that this really is a SW problem with 40k.

This is a great game, but despite turn stuff off and medium, the game's grfx still lag a bit - usually with three squads in battle on Mission 2. My specs are

Hey Uber et al:

I just got off the phone today with some from THQ. They were very nice. I explained to him my problem and he said that it was ridiculous. He is running WH40k on a P4 1.8 with a Ti 4200. He says it runs awesome. I sure believe him.

I told him about my HW and all the options which UberJumper and others have pointed out. He says that even though he is not a programmer, he can't figure out why people with killer HW should be having so many problems. To help him understand the nonsense we are going through, I pointed him to this thread and my thread (Graphic Card reccomendations).

He found the threads and said he would certainly look into it - and get back to me (took my phone number and email). In the meantime, he asked to me to do a fresh install if I had the time. I made the time. I installed the following:

WinXP Home
SP 1
All Cirtical hotfixes and the like
Intel Chipset Drivers
DX 9.0C
Forceware 61.77
Latest SB Live Drivers
Installed WH40k
Rebooted
Defragged

Ran WH40k and I'm still getting same results. Conclusion: I think it may be SW.

Now there's nothing else on my computer, and I have work to do. Later everyone. :)

k, I'm thinking that there might not be enough power going to your GPU Oscar... did you hook up the extra power adapter for it?

Q. My new 3D applications seem to be running slow after installing the new graphics card. What should I do?

A. Your new card is very complex and requires certain power and performance from the rest of your system. Most 3D games and applications are also CPU intensive and require a high performance processor for optimal game play. Download and use the latest chipset and AGP drivers for your motherboard, consult your motherboard or system manufacturer if you have questions about which chipset you are using. Most Super Socket 7 motherboards will exhibit inferior AGP performance due to poor AGP implementation.

That's from BFG's website.

I don't understand. I have a 420 watt power supply.

I have one HDD
1 DVD-ROM
1 CD BURNER
4 USB
3 FANS
2 MEMORY SLOTS

WITH THE Geforce 6800, I am supposed to be running a 335. I have a 420.

I verified all of this before buying the goddamn card. What could be the problem?

SilentPain
5th Oct 04, 7:10 AM
Are you sure about the PSU requirements? Everything I have read says you need a min. of 480 watts. I had a 500 watt PowMax and after installing the 6800 ultra it toasted the PSU cause I was pulling too much. The tech's I spoke to at BFG told me the 6800 draws 180watts alone.

Per his suggestion I bought an Antec 550true, expensive lil burger, but solved my power problems. Hell, I'm even considering a dual power set up if I can find an article that explains how to do it.

However, if you weren't pulling enough power to run your system you would be seeing other problems as well. I think DOW is the problem.

ÜberJumper
5th Oct 04, 10:26 AM
Oscar:

It might not be the PSU causing the problem, but rather a problem with the AGP slot on the motherboard not getting enough power, or perhaps the connector you used to connect the video card to the power supply is wrong.

That application does indicate that your card's GPU and memory is SERIOUSLY underclocked.

Oscar & Uber have you thought about the SBLive!

they are real IRQ hogs and it may be that by shifting the IRQ reservations to make room for the SBLive! you will free up the system at bios level. alternatively change the slot its in.

I had an old system that used to get in a tizz with that card and it had a load of stuff on a single IRQ# so I reserved a few IRQs in bios and that shifted the balance so it worked. Often used to cause problems and Creative are known for bad mannered hardware.

also look into all the IDEs and make sure the maxtor drives are named and the disks are setup with DMA correctly and check the rwROMs, maybe they need tweaking.

I am presuming you have only one firewall functioning and tried turning virus scanner off which you must have if you only have 19 processes, though I usually get mine down to 18.

I read your post this morning. After taking into consideration what you said, I
don't believe there is
anything wrong with the PSU or graphic card. I have a 420 watt PS, which is
more than enough power
to run two opitical drives, one hard drive, a few fans and two memory slots.
Before purchasing the
6800, I told BFG Tech my exact HW and they said to get a 420 watt PS. Upgraded
from a 300w.

The other thing is if my GPU was really running at 5 Mhz, I wouldn't be getting
the results that I am in
34Mark 2001, or 2003. I receive scores of 13,000 and 9,000 respectively. In
addition, DXDiag would
not run the Direct Tests at the lightening speeds that it does. Unlocking my
refreshrate (Windows XP
locks by default) I ran the tests and went "Holy shit, that's fast". Much
faster than My Ti4400 ever ran the
tests.

What I think is happening, and I confirmed this with BFG Tech is that Everest
is simply reading the card
incorrectly. Wouldn't be the first time (in my experience) that diagnostic SW
reads stuff incorrectly.

In addition, the power dongle that is connected to the 6800 OC runs directly
into the PSU. Not being
shared by anything. In any case, at Peak Loads with this card, the PSU reaches
a maximum of 340 W.

The BFGTech said "If you're GPU was really running at 5 MHZ, you wouldn't be
getting the results
you're getting in your games." Even though I'm not a tech myself, I've been
working with HW long
enough to that he's right.

In Warcraft 3, during average play (building, scouting, creeping and small
battles), i.e. not big battles.,
the game is never choppy (when scrolling) and runs at a constant 65 FPS.
During huge battles, it goes
down to 45-50 fps. But it is never choppy.

Good preliminary guess, but it must be something else. I should note that when
WH40k is paused, it's
as smooth as a baby's bum. But when it starts to play, it's a heartbreaker.
Like I said, seeing it on my
computer, you would never believe my specs.

Thanks for your help Uber. I appreciate it. Talk to you soon.

You know I thought about the damage AGP slot or card thing, but I really doubt it.

I benched my system again using 3dMark '03. First if my slot was damaged, I would probably get a booting error. Second, if my card was damaged, it would probably not work. Third, I just received a benchmark of 10,000 marks.

Comparing this against other systems in the FutureMark Database, I do very, very well. In addition, I noticed other systems with comparable marks have the GPU thing and MEmory reporting 5 MHZ. Which leads me to believe it's just an error in reporting. After all, if my Core speed and Memory speed were really running that slow or slow at all I wouldn't be able to play Warcraft 3, let alone Doom 3 and FarCry.

I don't think it's my motherboard or GPU or anything like that. One look at the forums and it's clear there are many problems with the game, including sound or sound initialization. Maybe this is the problem. Maybe it's related to the crashing bug, although my system doesn't crash.

It's clear, like many other games upon release, this game has errors. This is understandable. Programmers and QC can't forsee every instance of bug out there. It will take time, but eventually this game will run well on all systems. The only company I have ever come across where errors seem to be limited is in Blizzard's series. And when there are bugs, they constantly support there software. Heck, there still supporting Starcraft.

As for the sound card thing. While I do admit my game seems to pause briefly when sounds start playing - especially the speaking in game, removing my soundcard didn't change anything. My game functions between 40-50 frames, @ 1024x768, dipping to 30 when there is activity.

Until next time. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I'm definitely all ears!

SilentPain
5th Oct 04, 9:36 PM
No ideas here. I'm in the same boat as you. I own an really nice system but can't play the game in all it's glory. I can play in window mode as annoying as that is along with Freezes/unfreezes but in full screen mode the freezing etc is so bad it's impossible to play.

Then, to make matters even worse, I can't play mission ten. I get started and either sooner or later is crashes to the desktop. The auto bug report isn't working, tells me I don't have internet, LOL.

I agree with the sound card issue. Took my sound card completely out of the PC with no improvements. There are just too many folks on the forum having the same problems to say we ALL are having Hardware issues. Like you, I play RVS (very CPU intensive), Diablo, starcraft, Battlefield 1942, Morrowind, and Sacred without a hiccup. DOW is the only program I'm having problems with.

Lets hope the brains figure this out. I'd really hate to end up with another RVS/UBI debacle. If you know anything about RVS you know exactly what I'm talking about. UBI SUCKS!!!!!

sorry to hear that oscar & silent, thanks for trying :) I am sure that if you find the answer it will help other people too, I am happy to make suggestions based on my own experience but I am not getting any good hunches since the sound card I am afraid which I thought might be it :/, have you tried removing one or other of the ROMS at all (I once had a problem like that)

I am finding MP is very playable and I have
Athlon 2500 @ 2700
Ram 1 gig DDR3200
nForce2 chipset & soundstorm
Hitachi 180GXP 8Mb ide
Radeon 9700 nonpro 369/300 128Mb Omega drivers
ntl cable 700k
3DMark03 is 5391

But I havent really tried SP except for skirmish which is mostly OK. But I attribute slowdowns in MP to lag. I guess the following are probably not it but I just wrote them so I will leave them for you to look at.

do you have any way of monitoring CPU temperature ? it might be interesting to see if it is peaking at the same time as the slowdown, I ran a P800 system for a long time with the HS not properly in place, it was only the silicon goo which prevented it from burning out but that showed slow downs at peak usage due to the heating (Coolermasters fault, had a support ridge on the HS base which was a bad idea as the chip settled into the socket and the angle changed lifting the edge of the HS off the chip)

have you tried tweaking the page file at all. I have some games that wont run unless the page file is less than 256, though I like to keep it at at least a gig, also I place it in the same drive as the game installation, just a thought

are you trying to run the game from a different hard-disk to the OS disk ? (in this case I mean disk=ide not drive=partition ) sometimes it matters and you may have to put the game on the same IDE and very occasionally it has to be the C: drive

Do you have a USB tree anywhere ? I used to plug my mouse into my keyboard extension but that was a problem too with some things and now it goes straight into the case (requires powered hub).

I'm not sure anymore.

I know I have a problem. I know others, name BloodRaven have the same problem. I know other people have other problems than I have.

Therefore, there are problems with this game. Choppy scrolling, garbled sound, crashing.

This is ridiculous.

oscar!
6th Oct 04, 11:55 AM
I'm not sure if the developers for this game actually read these forums, but I will take the advice of someone I spoke to at THQ, Max.

There seems to be a concensus among reps from Relic and THQ that people with a certain level of HW should be able to run this game reallly, really well.

Unforunately, I cannot. However, according to THQ, my P4 2.0 Northwood 533, 1GB PC2100, Geforce 6800 OC should run this game like nobody's business.

But alas, the game runs like I don't have this HW. Plagued by choppy scrolling and choppiness in small battles, the game leaves a lot to be desired.

After trying every configuration and listening to every piece of advice, I'm still in the dark. It's not my PSU, it's not my graphic card, or my CPU. It's not my Windows installation, my chipset drivers or my locked refresh rate. All other games I own run really, really well. Except this one. It's strange when you can play Doom 3 and Farcry, but would rather play WH, but doing so is less than pleasant.

I believe that on some systems, for whatever reason, the game doesn't function correctly.

Seeing how this game is already plagued by crashing for some, garbled sound for most, brief pausing and less than stellar performance on strong HW, it's clear something is amiss with the SW.

I ask all the Devs, or whichever roam the forums, to please look at the threads that speak of this choppiness/graphic card/scrolling issue. When the game is on pause, it's as smooth as a baby. But once it gets going, it really takes a hit.

The person I spoke to at THQ said he forwarded my Dx logs, warning logs and graphich info to someone up the chain of coomand. I really appreciate it. I just hope someone's listening.

Thanks for reading this. It's really appreciated.

If your issue is simply the scrolling/jerkiness issue, I'll try to get a point of reference tonight. Again, as I've mentioned, I see no problems with the game, and I have a very similar system to you, however, I do not believe I play/navigate the maps by scrolling. it runs smooth, except when paging to swap, on my friends athlonxp 1800+, 6800oc and with only 256megs of memory (he is gettign more memory). there is something that could be causing your issue. also the speed that seems fine to you in doom3, etc is relative. you need to compare and make sure that you are receiving about the margin of performance for that game or app befor posting such a remark. in other words, a friend of mine once was playing some cs during its early years. when i walked in to see him. i instantly saw how slow is games was and i told him. he said no it is fine. i explained to him i can see it easily and gave him a round about of 18 to 25. i convinced him to do a netdraw to prove by showing the fps drawn. he was gettgin 16 to 24 max fps. but this seemed fine to him-till i pointed it out. btw refresh rate can have a very important impact on frames drawn when enabled or disabled at any hz setting.

Wow.

I just played my first online multiplayer game. It was a 1v1 and the game was really smooth, i.e. no choppy scrolling. . I'm going to try and play some more. Even in battle - he kicked my butt - the scrolling wasn't choppy.

Someone on here said it might have something to do with single player mode being buggy. I think they are right. More testing to come.

Cheers.

now for 4v4

Okay..here it is.

I played a 2v2 game. The map scrolled really well and for the first time I had fun.

Even when there were 7 or 8 squads with explosions and troops everywhere, incl. a Defiler, on the screen doing battle, the game did not chop up, but understandably slowed down. Like a major battle in WC3. The scrolling also slowed a little, during major battles, but nothing like in single player.

I even watched other players and there battles, and never once did I get a hiccup like I do in single player mode.

This definitely leads me to believe there is a problem in the Single Player Mode.

Oh, and this was running all in medium detail, with high models at 800x600. I suspect if I bump it to 1024, it won't really change.

My average FPS during the entire game was around 47.

I'm not sure if this lends insight, or if I was imagining things, but it did play and feel better in multiplayer.

Anxiously awaiting a patch, oscar .

its an ai bug...no ai in multiplayer so logically no chopiness...

ÜberJumper
6th Oct 04, 2:10 PM
AI was known to cause slowdowns in the Beta during the tutorial, so yes, this is the current line of reasoning for it slowing down/being choppy in SP or Skirmish.

oscar!

Well Uber, for the first time, you and I seem to be in total agreement. What a glorious day. Cheers. :)

oscar!

I played a 3v3 game over gamespy. First off there was plenty of lag, and one player dropped. Then at one point there was a HUGE battle and the game seemed to move in a "pause and go" fashion. Despite this, the scrolling, although slowed was still smooth. Was this stop-motion movement caused by the lag or what?

Me thinks it could be attributed to lag, but just wanted advice. Thanks.

ÜberJumper
6th Oct 04, 8:36 PM
oscar, it's likely that one of the players had a shitty system that couldn't keep up.

In MP, the lowest system determines speed.

oscar!
7th Oct 04, 7:11 AM
Possibliy.

However, I would really love to play single player. Patch, patch, where have you gone?

oscar!
7th Oct 04, 4:06 PM
I was on a DoW fan site. Apparently the lead programmer from Relic said on this site that certain game blance issues are going to be addressed with regards to Eldars. Here is the thread.

http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=40553

I hope he and his team are also aware of the crashing, garbled sound and choppy scrolling/graphics problems as well.

It would be a silly oversight to address these problems, without making sure the game runs well too.

Cheers, everyone.

oscar!

Bumping this in the name of a solution. Stopped playing after Mission 5 because of the choppiness. It's UNBEARABLE.

Freya Crescent
9th Oct 04, 9:58 PM
one thing I found that helped me was to turn off all other back ground programs possible, from fire walls and virus scans to msn messenger and everything in between except the stuff needed to run the game.

After doing that the battles flowed way more smoothly. I almost think it's an issue with the number of processor cycles rather than the graphics card.

oscar!
10th Oct 04, 8:43 PM
Well, I only have 18 proccesses running when the game is running. Virus disabled. The single player is unbearable. They believe it has something to do with the AI, as the beta behaved similarly.

Multiplayer runs great - firewall on or off.

I have same problem my posts are under the thread "stutters" Should be running and I've done everything short of putting 2 slugs into the side of the case. My specs

p4 2.8 prescott HT 800 fsb
512 3200 ddr
128mb Radeon 9000 - fully updated
directx 9.0c
onboard sound - abit sg-72 - by realtek -fully updated

can't even play it's so choppy. POS in my opinion.

The interesting thing is If I do actually disable hardware acceleration in the DXDiag it improves the game speed 10 fold. It's almost virutally stutter free.... Not entirely sure why but it may be something to look at.

I did not read all the post in this thread, just wanna add my experience.

1,4Ghz
256Mb Ram
Radeon 9800XT 256Mb
DirectX 9c

I can run the game with the highest settings, and i don´t get any lag at all. Working really smoth for me.

Its a shitty computer with a good GPU.

Do you disable the sound acceleration or AGP, Direct Draw and 3d acceleratoin?

These are interesting developments. I wonder what the problem is.

I was looking at the stuttering issue a bit yesterday, and in one skirmish match, the stutter was noticable as I scrolled. However, I also realized that I do not scroll the map much at all while I play, I use the minimap to jump to locations around the map.

While playing with my wife against AI, I did not notice any noticable stuttering.

OH... small light bulb just went off.

What maps are you playing in skirmish when you see the stuttering, and what win conditions do you have set?

I don't think it matters, skirmish or not. The problem occurs in single player game too. Not just Skirmish mode.

I just disable sound acceleration under the DXDiag... Not entirely sure what the problem is. Just got done playing a perfectly fine online game though! Curious...

Online games against other players have little or no AI or scripting involved in them, which is why you wouldn't see stuttering.

Leading me to believe it is AI related.

u need fast ram (400mhz) to kill it,and at least a gig of it, thats my conclusion after trying everything else. Game requires alooot of memory bandwith, too much im afraid, but i need an upgrade over my 266 bars anyway...

I have half a gig of ram, and I could run the game pretty smoothly on a geforce4 ti 4600 last month in the beta, so I'm hesitant to agree with you bl00d_r4vens...

I haven't read every post about this that there is to read, but I just want to be clear that the problem I am having is NOT related to the framerate I'm getting. The stutter has a solid period of repetition, something like half a second or so, and that doesn't change no matter what is going in the game. Small map, big map, lots of guys, nothing going on, it doesn't seem to matter. Its like every half second the game sort of stops for a microsecond, then catches up a bit. Kind of similar to really minor lag.

Its most noticeable when scrolling, but I see the glitch all the time regardless of whether the screen is moving. The only time I've seen it move smoothly is after a game has finished, probably for the same reason others have had it stop while paused.

I only just got this game, and I'm really pretty angry about this. After all those months of playing the beta and loving it, I didn't expect there to be problems like this.

There were reports of this during the beta as well during the Tutorial.

UberJumper you mentioned in another thread (correct me if im wrong) about when Relic gets back. Are they currently unable to give this title their full attention? I would just like to hear that this is being addressed, or will be addressed. Thanks.

I hope it's being addressed, but I'm not sure.

Uberjumper:

But if you're the unofficial representative for Relic on this site, surely you must have someway of letting them know?

Thanks.

Has anybody else gone to THQ tech support? I did just because there was a severe lack of support on relic's site.

I did. I spoke with a person named Max. He was nice enough to forward my complaint (including all my DX logs, etc.) up the ladder. Let's just hope someone takes a look.

I first tries the game on the mobo(AMD 3000XP, 512MO, geforce 2MX 64MO,win98se) I used for the beta to see the improvements done by the devs since their last beta version.
The game was so stuttering in every of its aspects (scrolling, animation and sound) that if I didnt get the beta as a reference (the beta ran much better), I would have concluded that my comp wasnt powerful enough.
I opened up the video card panel and started to disable the options normally controlled by the application.
The game ran nearly smoothly when scrolling, rotating and zooming at once in a 16 bits with all the option set to high. When I said nearly I mean you can see that the comp is dragging here and then but really nothing that should prevent from playing since I dont use myself such composite camera moves.
