okay,
ive tried every single thing suggested on these boards and many more. im still not sure what the exact problem is but ive got a athlon 64 fx 2400mhz, ATI 9700 pro, 1gb corsair ram- its been crashing since the beta between 5min and 1hr in.
i cant guarantee this will work for all but its done the job for me so give it a go:
disable all fastwrites, both in bios and turn of write combining too.
The thing that made it work: download and install the Omega ATI graphics driver http://www.omegadrivers.net/ (IMPORTANT) NOT THE 4.9 CATALYST, download the catalyst 4.8 version and install the standard set of drivers. make sure u uninstall ur old control panel first or it will overwrite it.
Ok thats about it - if it works for u 2 post it ere so we know it works for good.

What kind of drivers do you mean for the radeon cards?
I thought the cat from ati was the best ones ?

I am currently using an ATI 9700 pro. I see a lot other people having problems with ATI cards and other stuff :blah: :blah:
I am using:
Catalyst driver version 4.9
Direct3d version 6.14.10.0257
Open GL version 6.14.10.4582
You can get this info from the catalyst control center help screen (For those who do not know)
To the best of my knowledge these are the latest drivers and I have never had any problems with the demo or released version of the game.
For sound I have a SB Audigy card. My driver date is 10/21/2003 (Version 5.12.5.441) These are probably not the latest drivers and I have no problems here also.
I forgot to mention...I an not using an Athlon chip

Hi All,
I'm not sure if this will help -- but one thing I noticed in VIA's Hyperion readme concerning XP SP2 and their specialized AGP driver (having just upgraded to a AMD 64 3000+):
"
To deliver a quality user experience, a universal standard for AGP drivers, UAGP35, is being adopted by all chipset vendors with AGP 3.5-capable hardware. VIA have worked with Microsoft on this issue for a long time and continue to do so. There are many VIA AGP3.0/3.5 devices which are supported in SP2. VIA's AGP driver contained in the latest Hyperion 4in1 drivers will work properly with Windows SP2, however, the default Microsoft driver is recommended. Please follow the advice below, depending on whether you are installing WinXP and SP2 on a clean system or installing SP2 on top of WinXP SP1.

Tried suggesting that to a couple of people so far, no help sadly. Plus seeing a lot of the same crashing on SP1 as well.
The common thread so far seems to be Athlon+ATI chip causing a problem.

I am using the omega 4.9s and still getting crashes, id say its disabling the AC97 card that is making the most effect. Could this be the culprit?
Will do some testing tonight...
