View Full Version : Countering an Early Ork Rush?

So far ive used this tactic 7 times and won every time.
I build 3 slugga boyz squads and big mek asap, as soon as they're ready i rush the enemy. With the points ive captured during the building phase i can keep the squads topped up.
I've been counterd by SMs with heavy bolters and turrets, still i seem to win.
Anyone have en effective counter to this?

If you won with that, you simply played inferior players. HBs and turrets can chew up such a rush pretty fast, if properly executed. Not to mention the FC is a nightmare vs such low-tech troops, if properly used.
It's not a balance issue, more like poor play on the part of the SM.

If you're Eldar, a well-placed Psychic storm can do wonders. Dance and delay for reinforcements.
If you're Chaos, you should have Forced Labor'd your temple up and gotten your Chaos Lord + Chaos Marines out by then. Dance and delay for reinforcements.
If you're Space Marines, you get boned. Dance, delay, and pray.

I use a very similar strategy early in the game and I've found the most trouble I have is when a marine player invests in Marine squads early rather than several scout squads.
I usually get 2 slugga squads (1 with Big Mek) going and then get a shoota squad and max it out. This is usually more than enough to push him back and if you win a decisive victory in the middle you can push forward with almost no trouble.
Effective strats for marines. Build a 2nd servitor asap and help build that barracks then crank out marine squads and a FC. Forgot scouts, ORKS LOVE SCOUTS. And getting a armory up is cruicial. ORKS HATE HVY BOLTERS. Chaos is same strat.
Not sure about eldar tbo, but I'm guessing warp spiders since they pwn orks.
With ork vs Ork it all boils down to who uses the big mek best. You lose him against another ork player and you have almost lost the match.

Only problem I have with orks is how they run almost the same speed as my marines, which makes microing them a pain in the ass. HBs take sooo long to get ready to fire that by the time he's started shooting, orks are close enough to be in CC. You can dance all day but you won't lose em.

I play mostly team games, but I have run into this strat a couple of times as Space Marines.
Usually I start off by having two servitors fast-build my barracks and then get marines + FC + more marines out ASAP. I've noticed online that some folks like to build lots of scout marines. I just build two (three, tops) groups of them to cap strat points early, then switch exclusively to heavier troops.
Maybe I've just been playing bad Ork players, but this seems to have worked so far.

After a bit o testing last night I found a good solution... SNIPERS! As SM your best weapon against an ork rush is their morale.. Setup 2 tac squads with HB's and prep your FC to charge in. Get the snipers behind the line of tacs. And let em go to work. Snipers break morale, HB's finish the job. That setup(1 FC, 2 tacs, 3 2man scout squads with sniper rifles) held out for a LLOONNGG time..
