View Full Version : My problem with playing Chaos

Alright, I'm a 2on2 Automatch guy (was 3rd before my loses, damnt - think I'm 5th now) and switched from Eldar to Chaos just because I was sick of rushing the Seer Council.

So here's my exact build order - I can win 95% of games like this, even if my teamate sucks.

1st builder force labors the barracks - down to 1hp :)
2 Cultists squads next, take 2 closest points.
Builder comes out and force labors the sacrifice pit, down to 1hp.
1st Builder builds a generator.

At this moment, I have 300/100 and could get a possessed, but I always get 2 listening posts then the possessed. By the time he's done, I get 2 more listening posts then another posssessed and upgrade my squad amount (so I can use him - or I can send in my cultsist squad to die :).

It's at this point I make a point to rush or kill some of their army. 2 possessed groups (at about 6-8 each) and 2 overwatched cultist squads can RAPE a player. But here's my problem.

Orks and Midgame - for this reason.

Midgame is because since I don't focus on marines, I don't have the rocket squads to handle vehicles. I know "Build marines you whore!" but I've got 3-4 squads of full upgraded possessed by midgame (I'm quick :)). I can tear up any army, but 2-3 vehicles and my posssessed go bu-bye.

Orks don't rush chaos, it's stupid. I've got a possessed squad and 2 cultist by the time he comes at me. Here's my problem.

Do I get the second possessed squad or my Chaos Lord? I can never decide which is better, since if I have 2 squads on overwatch, I usually can stall - but Big Mek owns my group so I need a Chaos Lord....but he can get focused on and die, compared to 2 groups on overwatch.....I'm perplexed.

Also, Orks that are smart don't rush but offensively tower. And what I mean by this is take points close to you and inch forward using bolters and warbanners. I've ran in to a full slugga boy squad infront of one upgraded LP and upgraded Warbanner, with 1 shoota boyz backup and got schooled. Why? Bugs in the game.

Hold Stance bug is bullshit, my guys are melee and get owned even if I run up to the shoota boyz. And the "dance" of a full slugga boyz group with Big Mek pounding on you, is also bs. I lost 2 full possessed and 2 full cultists versus those 2 groups and banner/tower.

Should I give up on pure possessed and get marines?

Also anyone who says Horrors suck needs to seriously use them better. Late game once, I ran to a player's Space Marine army with 3 possessed groups. He was beating me down, but then I summoned in 4 groups of horrors behind my guys. He couldn't reach them, and they soon made quick work of all his marines. Those damn dreds though...ugh, 3 posssessed and 4 horrors took a good few minutes tinking away at 2 dreds.

And no offense, but our vehicles blow.

Thanks for reading and please post some comments/suggestions.

Do I get the second possessed squad or my Chaos Lord?

Why don't you put the Chaos Lord in the possessed squad? that way you have extra morale/damage and the Chaos Lord does his best damage bit which is melee. To point out why (to whom who don't know possessed :Slap: They work only with melee damage, they have no range so the Chaos Lord Has to go melee)

Should I give up on pure possessed and get marines?

I would mix two-three possessed squads with atleast two marine squads with rockets (plasma if your fighting Eldar platforms.. I hate those)

And no offense, but our vehicles blow.

I always build atleast two defilers and use their Attack Ground, so they use their artillery at spots I want to. It's a Very good way to get morale down quickly and blow the units far away.

You did not mention which upgrades you got, and in what order, for your possessed. One of them upgrades their claws for attacking armor and buildings. Have you tried that one vs the ork vehicles? Not sure it will work enough, especially if he is massing tracks, but it might be enough for you to hold out until you can get a small CSM squad with missiles.

I agree, two upgraded possessed could eat a Dread in 4-6 seconds. Luckily they don't take much of a beating so they could do that for a while.

The two upgrades you need:
Deamonic Mutations 75 req. 25 pow.
Deamonic Talons 75 req. 25 pow.

you might try 1 squad of chaos raptors against an ork. that way he can't dance so well.

-Usually by the time I get upgrades I'll have 3 groups of possessed already and 2 sacrifice pits. At that point, I can pretty much get all upgrades in half the time. The armor one doesn't help that much, especially if he rushes to wartraks - there isn't a thing I can do against a quick wartrack rush besides rush him with the possessed before then.

-I'd also (other thread) like to know what Furious charge does for Possessed, haven't seen anything different - even zooming in and watching.

-Chaos lord is nice with a squad of possessed but is he worth another entire squad? The reason I ask this, is he isn't cheap so at that point in the game it's either 1 group with the chaos lord or 2 semi full groups. During a big fight, if they focus fire the chaos lord...I'm screwed because I'm only gaining 1 recruit at a time, compared to 2 full groups (can attack different groups so I'm not getting range splattered while I fight 1) that can get 2 recruits at the same interval. The 2 groups always seems best...

-4 to 6 seconds is a long time versus one dread, especially if they have the Dread raping you in melee with others. I've had 2 3 fully upgraded squads get just beat down by 2-3 dreads plus some backup Assault Marines. They just take too long to kill and are hard, since they can melee almost as good as you.

-There is a known bug right now with "jump" units, like Storm Boyz and Chaos Raptors...I could abuse it, but I'm not sure if I'm morally pissed enough to fight cheaters by cheating. For example, let's say he has a group of Dark Reapers stuck in holdstance/ranged. You could go up in melee and still take a lot of damage. But if you have Chaos Raptors there and CONTINUALLY click on them, the Chaos Raptors will use their jets and "push" units - dark Reapers will never get the time to setup and fire. It works on almost any range group....I saw someone do it on my team, I almost quit out of purpose. But I guess if they're abusing the Holdstance bug, might as well abuse them back.

-Defilers I don't find to do too much. In that reason, because they can't really do good ranged battles - the artillery is nice if their force is not in your group, but horrible if you're using possessed - you're just tossing guys around (including your own) and not getting anything done. They also can't handle ANY anti-vehicle stuff. Rockets/Dreds....it just beats them senseless.

-Chaos predators are a joke. They have NO anti-vehicle until you fully upgrade your Hall, which costs a whopping 500/250 plus even more resources to upgrade them. If you're in Tier2 with Chaos Predators, they're a waste - watch a Dread fight a Chaos Predator and we'll see who wins. I don't *need* any anti-infantry or heavy infantry, all my units in tier1 can do that - Horrors, Possessed, Chaos SM. What I can't handle is vehicles and I only have 1 unit that can do that.

You could use the Defilers's melee side to kill the wartracks, trust me. That will work, it did for me.

Well if you're fighting dreads with possessed, you have a big chance their morale gets fucked. Having a Chaos Lord attached to that group, they will receive a 150 morale boost and it's harder to get their morale down.

In my book that's worth gold!

I agree 4-6 seconds is a long time versus one dread, the only plus I see is that you trap the dread, you don't take much damage (you won't lose one unit if you got the damage/armor upgrade) if you have a horror squad or two taking care of the rest at range, perhaps two squads of CSM with rockets to take down those dreads faster.

I once used Chaos Predators yeah, they cost about 500 req. and a whopping 1500 power. Insane ammount for such a useless tank. And I don't even count the Unholy Fortress upgrade, pfft.

The big deal is to let the PSM take up all the damage and reinforce them while you're using horrors mixed with defilers (they have flamers, machine guns and a nifty melee damage) or a squad or two with CSM with rockets/plasma guns (depends which enemy you're facing)

Personally, I would be more concerned about Deep striking Dreads than Wartracks, but that's me.

u seen how fast wartraks and dreads go down to 2 squads of csm, just add 4 rockets anda champion and focus them on each vehicle at a time, ull be amazed.
