I love my landspeeders. I still haven't played many online games (around 20) but I've found a use in nearly all of them for the humble speeder.
For some reason opponents either a) fixate irrationally on them rather than on the Tactical squads which are slamming their defences/buildings/vehicles or b) ignore them completely and wonder why their infantry is dying so quickly.
But they're not just good support for attacks. In groups of 2 or 3 they're effective at irritating and confusing the enemy. Their speed means they can get behind enemy lines and hunt down heretics, servitors, bonesingers etc and still be able to run away. The more you can get an enemy to focus on preventing landspeeder raids (eg building rockets or anti-tank guns) the more success conventional infantry will have. This tactic doesn't work so well against the eldar, who are just as fast, but against space marines I've found it useful.

I find building just 1 is good for jumping an enemy defence line and drawing off some of his troops just as your main force arrives, this can make the difference between winning and losing the main battle , even in a base packed with turrets you get enough time to deep strike before the landspeeder is destroyed. (presuming your scouts have been detected and destroyed)
