I recently purchased a partially-assembled Land Raider, and I was wondering where the Lascannons go? In the directions it says the farther back hatch set, but they are glued in the forward hatches. To add to the confusion, the lascannons on the picture on the box are forward, as are they on the Helios version's pic on Forge World.

Placing the cannons forward gives you an extra 1 - 1.5 inch range. Is that tournament legal?

EDIT: Sorry about this. It can be deleted at any moderator's convenience.

I'm not sure about 'Tournament Legal'. I guess it depends on the Tourney.
You would have to check with the organisers.

As for normal Gaming, i have never heard of anyone complaining about having the lascannons in the forward hatch. I'd play you.

in fact, for a LR crusader, i think it makes sense for the Hurricane Bolters to be forward. it'd be kinda stupid to jump out of a tank only to have its main guns pointing at you. It's a pity i thought of that AFTER i put together my Crusader...

you can put them any where you want. I always put them in the forward doors. Think about it. Your opponent hits you with a krack missile. He measures for range from the front of your main hull. Your lascannons might not be able to answer back because they will be out of range if mounted in the back.

Not such a big deal though with standard Landraiders on 6'x 4' boards....

NEVER EVER mount your Hurricane Bolter sponsons in the rear of your Crusader. (unless you like driving it around backwards)

The new rules measure range and line of sight from the weapon sponsons. (eg A predator has an 8 inch safe zone directly in front of it where troops can hide from the LOS of the sponson weapons). I havent worked it out for a Crusader, but you'll be seriously compromising your range and LOS by mounting them in the back instead of the front.

Actually, I've found that driving it around Backwards is great for intimidating your enemy. :D

14's all round! Woo. also solves the problem of me putting the Hurricane Bolter sponsons in the "wrong" spot.

It's been ages since i played my marine army, I just remembered that a LR Crusader has a TL Assault Cannon on it too. Joy.

Doesnt it make more sene to mount them in the front hatches seeing as if i was a marine i really wouldnt want to jump out the sides to meet out the emperors judgement, only to be blatted by the lascannons on my OWN transport vehical

Generaly speeking, because GW likes to encourage Moding and personalizing models it is terny legal, my first LR had them in the back (i had never played a game yet so i didn't know better) my others have them in the front and i have played them both in Tournaments. the only thing I can think of is WYSIWYG. but then i am sure your not allowed to Mod up a Vindicator and give it a BIG LONG Cannon for extra range....

I Heavily Mod everything in my main army cause it is Chaos... i would hate to think about some of the rules i could have broken cause i didn't even bother to look a directions...

also, having them infront of the side hatches provides cover for those behind it if your opponent allows it, since they must hit your mens feet.

whoa...waddya people talking about?!?!?

For Land Raider: doesn't matter where it goes, its up to you.

For LRC it looks better in front but doesn't matter...

And for..."modding" as you people put it...its called VDR.

If you make ur Vindicator's cannon twice as long you get to add 50% more range...

24+12=36! w00t. of course you still have to pay for it in points... :Slap:

other question: you can shoot at one target only but its quite unpossible to shoot with the las.cannons on each side at one target without turning the LR or every other vehicle a bit to the one side and shoot and then to the other side...thats pretty unrealistic
does this have to be like this?

unpossible eh?

Also Land Raiders have Machine Spirit so they can nominate one lascannon to shoot at a different target (twinlinked at Bs2 aint bad).

Also You should know where you are fireing when you move. You can tunr your vehical at beggining/end of turn without penalty so...i dont see a problem (because if you have already chosen your target and the land raider is facing directy at it, all weapons can hit with line of sight)

If you look in the rulebook it does show side sponsons line of fire. They do cross over eventually, with a vehicle the size of a land raider that will be pretty far away. I don't have one so I can't say how far away the LOSs converge. Nothing you can do about it.

Dante - You can turn a vehicle as much as you like anywhere along its movement.

Actually in the rule book doesn't it say that you only get a free turn towards the target if you did not move in the movement phase? I've taken the rules to mean that if the vehicle moved, the facing is stuck at what the vehicle was looking at when the movement phase ends. This is the way we play since, otherwise, with free turns during the shooting phase, you can turn to shoot at an enemy and then place your front towards the most dangerous enemy.

Quoting myself, with added emphasis :)

I'd allow a free turn at the start of the firing phase, whether the vehicle moved or not. Your just being pedantic otherwise.

But yes, you can't fire then turn the vehicle.

Sometimes... Like for us Chaos players... Modding can mean simply converting the Heck out of something to make it, well, Chaos! I have some Models that use the basic Chasi of what they are (LR for one and 3 diff Preds) but have been sooooo heavily Modded up to look like something that has been blown the poop out of and re-built and then Daemonicly infested! heck i have a rhino that has Daemon Arms and a Head holding/aiming the Havoc Missile Launcher and Combi Bolter! there are things that are VDR.... and then there is just creativity with a knife, Hammer, Glue and Tons of Greenstuff!

I would post a pic but my Death Guard army (most adorable mods ever) is slightly pornographic and more than a little discusting since i combined Plague and STDs!
