I'm sorry but I can't look this up as I do not own the 4th edition rules.

However, I need to know tonight so I can figure out what to glue onto my FC.

Does a single lightning claw strike using the wielders inititive or is it I1 like the power fist?

just dont glue it on. it should say in you codex if it strikes at I1.

Funny enough the new Space Marine Codex doesnt have the rules for Lightning Claws, double or single. It does not strike at Initiative 1, but please get the rulebook as soon as possible.

The codex doesn't have it in because it is printed in the WH40K rulebook and the space marine version of the claw doesn't deviate from the standard one. This is the best way to do is since GW often decide to tweak the rules for things. If at some later date they decide the lightning claw is unbalanced for some reason then they only need to produce a FAQ for one book. If the rules were in the codexes then they would need to include the update in the FAQs for each book.

Admittedly, it is unlikely that they would do this for the lightning claw but the principle should hold for everything (but if I know GW it won't!)

Incidentally, I am in the process of converting a vet searg with a combi-flamer and a single lightning claw. Hope he rocks!

Yeah, 2 Editions in i doubt they're going to get up and say "oh my god, they're totally unbalanced!".

Still, BOTH the Space Marine Codex and the 4th ED rulebook have the rules for Thunder Hammers, so i'm afraid your theory doesnt work.

I think it's mostly because GW is sloppy and forgetful with terribly bad editors, (trained monkeys?). Hence, the difference between Thunderhammers and Lightning Claws mentioned above. Among other things.

if its something small like that they can just have a look in a book at thier local store, ask the staff (any staff member would tell them) or ask someone on some forum...perhaps one called "rules discussions" or something...hold on...this formus called...

You are probably right but in general, it's a bad idea to print an identical rule in two or more books. It can get a bit frustrating, especially if the "terribly bad editors" don't notice inconsintencies.

I'd say if someone buys the rulebook for an army, they're kinda entitled to know what their weapons do...

*Bangs head off the table*

The codex says on the cover that you will need the rulebook in order to use it.

If you are saving money by using your friend's rulebook then copy out any important sections that you need.

um, NO!!! Lightning Claws are power weapons and as such strike at the initiative of the owner. It's not a power fist.

And I'm right there w/ ya cfoley. How can you buy a codex and not a rulebook and complain about not knowing the scoop? C'mon peeps...

It appears even having the rulebook doesn't guarantee full understanding Dante :) Lighting Claws allow you to re-roll failed rolls to wound, not to hit.

Bwahahaha. Phoenix, you kill me... LOL

Part & parcel of the whole GW experience is reading the rules wrong and playing incorrectly. It's a GW tradition.

Side Note: Chosen Terminators Aspiring Champions with Master Crafted Paired Lightning Claws are just EVIL. The kind of evil that could get you kicked out of a game group...
