I was playin HW skirmish the other day & was playing a carrier only game on hard with 7 computers & was thinking to myself that it would be awsome if there was a game mode where you basically built up a huge empire.

you would fight for planets & sectors using ships from homeworld & you could choose to be any of the races. There would be a large galactic map with heaps & heaps of planets to take over & basically you build heaps & heaps of ships from the galactic map & yeah

say you attack an enimy sector it goes into the normal game mode in that sector and you start withn all the ships that you sent in & you may also harvest resources in the area to build more & then attack the enimy. The winner of each sector will take control of it and will have harvesting rights to it and stuff.

i dunno, just an idea (see imperium galactica.. but as HW)

its probabally already been thought up

Its kinda like Wing Commander Armada? An Awesom game I must add. That would be awesom, if it could combine WC Armadas Simplisity, and Star Wars Rebellions In Depth game play All would be good.

ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!

Sorry, I always cried that when I took over another Rebel Strong Hold in Rebellion. had to bring back the memorys.

Long live the Empire!!

Homeworld was characteristed by its innovative and compelling storyline that broke from the previous paradigms of strategy games.

Now that the Kushan have their home, what next?

No spoilers, plz, I haven't finished the game (! -- still a new HWer!)

--> bean, where the hell did that come from?

<-- I like this Idea. To expand, you would start out with some kind of base in a sector, with planet (probably), a few battle type ships, some resourcers and a carrier or a Command Ship. You would act like a fledgling race: digging up every resource you could find and expanding very slowly while exploring and building an army. Then you become a 2 or 3 sector race. Planets would have a certain resource value, as well as SU value. To expand your fleet size you build more CS's.-->

<-- Thus would make an excellent semi-massive multiplayer game. Get 16+ people on a LAN or across the internet, have someone provide a server to use (like Half-Life), and start up a game. Get a few factions (Turanic, Somtaaw, Beast, etc). Each faction would select a leader by voting, then the leader would manage and micromanage the other players and some of the larger stuff (it would be handy to have a sector and galaxy view sensor screen and a quick select player chat). Whilst the other players start out by directing the resourcing and stuff and eventually up to full battlegroups and fleets. Thus any number of people could join provided you had the bandwidth and processing power to do so. (the actions of other players wouldn't be sent or calculated until they affected someone (thus you are only sending and recieving the information from a select few.) A very handy thing to have would be the ability to pause, save, record, and load the game. In case you were only playing a 6 player game, saving the game would be very handy (it would save to the server, or host, or you could save it to your harddrive in case the server changes or you want to finish the game with different people). The options screen should be many pages in length to fit all the variables and options of the game (there should be many options of course) and the options should be saveable as normal files (it would help if the devs made all user files in one directory). One option should be the size of the galaxy you want to play in (size = LxWxH #s of sectors). ... thats all for this section... for now... -->

yes...

It would be sweet to even have battles on planets aswel.

ooh the possibilities!!!!

Well, to be honest, I think battles on planets would be ghey. Battles FOR planets would be good though. Lets say a certain new type of resourcer especially for planets, would sit in orbit and suck resources off planet (or something) and planets would have to be defended. I would think planets would just be used as a major source of nearly never ending resources.

(I'm still down, but I'm using public access computers to supplement.)

Also, planets could have a certain ratio of industrial base times people, in effect building ship components and conducting massive research. Plus, planets are where the empires populace dwells, remember the fleet defends the people, the people don't just exist to support the fleet. Also, political infigfhting could have a certain effect on your fleet, most probably negative. There should be some probability factor tied into how many ships you kill which triggers stupid political policies which hurt (or help) the fleet. Just a thought...

Now don't get me wrong, I like the good old-fashioned Build an Empire game as much as the next guy, but that's not why I like Homeworld. I was blown away by the real time fleet combat in the game. The story and everything was good, but the actual implementation, controls, visuals, etc. are what really impressed me. There has been no other game that I know of that has pulled off, what feels like, realistic fleet combat with decent cotrol of capital as well as smaller combat ships. Once you start adding all the other bits and pieces of an empire game the actual combat becomes secondary. Combat is something that you wait through to get to the next step.

Keep the great Empire games coming but keep them away from Homeworld.
