View Full Version : a few things
Here are things that should be in my ideal view of HW2. If any repeat stuff that other members have said, then I didnt see it.
Kadeshi, Bentusi and Turanic Raiders shouldn't be playable, as they're "independent"
NO BEAST, as they havent been found yet
A choice(again) in which race to take through the campaigns
The ability to model a spacecraft(like in Alpha Centuari). You choose components like armor types, weapon types, engines, etc....and lets say ships will cost more if you put on better components. Also, the mass of each type cannot go over a specified limit.
Outposts...or space facilites. immobile, but with lots of turrets, etc.
Unique technology for each race. I realize that kushan stole techs from Taiidan, but the Taiidan should still be 1 step ahead in some areas.
More good space music :D
Derelict craft. Maybe, in MP maps, there could be a couple from an unplayable race, like a kadeshi quad-beam. however, it would take resources for repairs and crews.
A shield system, or one that you can gain through a technology.
Enviornmental effects...a lot like in the Supernova Station, but for example, when in an asteroid field, you might take damage from passing asteroids, or when in a nebula, some gasses might be volatile when coming in contact with your engines, or something like that.
A ship could have addons. For example, if you built a Carrier, you might add on extra docking slots, but at the price of removing some turrets, or something like that.
Thats it. Hope you arent bored :err:

Sounds good, but a couple of pointers.
First, the No Beast. Since I don't know the exact timeline of HW2, I would suspect from this statement that it's Pre-Cataclysm, post Homeworld right? Please correct me on this, since I don't know anything about HW2 right now.
Secondly, it would be cool to see a customizable menu, like making up new ships and stuff, adding armor, weapons, etc...
Third, I guess the only thing I know about HW2, which is completely contradicting my earlier statement, is that the music is being done by the same people who did the Homeworld music, like the in-game music and stuff.
Fourth, shields would be good.
Finally, the environmental effects would be awesome as well.
So basically I'm agreeing with everything you said. However, I'm still not too sure on the timeline of HW2. Is it a post Cataclysm game?
Anyways, good ideas and all.
Its a pre-cata game. I'm positive of this. However, I dont want to have Beast in HW2, because one game with them is enough for me.

How do you know its a pre cata-game?

yes, how DO you "know" this? :)
The only real clue I've seen is a screenie of a scaffolded Kushan-like mothership and some vague hint-droppings that it starts at or around Hiigara.

It's not Pre-Cataclysm to my knowledge.
I could've sworn I heard this somewhere on these forums. Mightve been an admin or a dev, cant remember. Happened months ago.

What?? Before Cata... that makes no sense to me. The Cata booklet would have to be modified, making this impossible (yeah, crappy reasoning, but it works). Giant cap ships of radical design with HUGE ion beams? I didn't see any in Cata, did you?
Relic didnt make Cata. And from their attitude towards the game, I bet they couldnt care less if the manual didnt coincide with the game.

I whuld like to see repainting of captured ship like in Cataclysm
relic have an attitude towards cataclysm? hw2 is set before hw:c?
i dunno where people get their info from sometimes.. ive never heard either of these theories.

reki, is just that most of these hw guys hate cata soo much, that they don't want anything to do with it.
well neither of them are true, unfortunately, no matter how much some people want to believe them :)

Well its good to see that HW2 will be post HW:C... I'd personally hate to see HW:C pushed completely out of the timeline. I seriously doubt Relic would have anything really against HW:C. Sure they didn't produce it, and they would have wanted to do things a different way, but frankly HW:C was too much of a success to ignore... and the improvements to the game control interface was lightyears ahead of HW.
Well onto the wishlist from Hålo. Just for the record much of what you have suggested has been covered before (even commented on myself in previous threads) but I don't doubt you wouldn't have seen them... some days there is just too bloody much to read :)
Yes I completely agree with shield technology... this I believe is a must in the next step of HW reality technology. Just to experience the effect of shields I used to build superdreadnaughts with 6 sentinals apeice... voila front shield technology :) Since they first developed shield technology back in HW:C it should be possible to assume they improved shield technology since then. I'd absolutely LOVE to see some shield effects as a fighter straffs a cruiser, or watching a dreadnoughts shields fail (in that section)under the onslaught of a highly focused ion beam from a frigate. The shields can be considered invisible until they are made visible from being forced to repel energy from an attack... makes sure the game engine doesn't need to draw shields 24/7 :)
Customisable ships? Covered indepth on another thread. Basically it was agreed that it would be good to have basic preset ships for the average player that DOESN'T want to micromanage, but also have the ability to tweak the ships design if a player wishes (say they don't like missiles and want to replace that weapon loadout with another ion beam or two).
The rest I pretty much agree on, besides the NO BEAST point. The idea of stationary stations has been raised before and I'd absolutely LOVE to see this in HW2. Also the idea of increased spacial effects is a very good idea... throw in a few nebula effects and the like. And I DEFINATELY would like to see derelict spacecraft in HW2 single and/or multiplayer. I wouldn't care if you could repair them and pilot them or not... just the fact of seeing the occasional space wreck would be kewl... more along the lines of the wreck seen in the first mission of HW (after the launch tutorial).

First of all, I've always liked Cata better. If I could play Taii and Kush in Cata, I would never play HW ever again.

I don't think you should be able to play two races unless they have different campaigns. I don't think you should have been able to play the Taiidan in HW because it contradicted the story. It would have been another thing if there have been a different campaign for the Taiidan, so that there would have been two possible outcomes, but then how to you advance the story later?

well... if you played the rebels story (remember Captain Elson? or whatever his name was) there would still be only one outcome. You wouldn't necessarily play Captain Elson's role, but would play the main rebel fleet. Captain Elson would just be a plot/story mover that would tie the two campaigns together.
Sniff. Thats what I had expected anyway, after finishing HW the first time and starting anew.
nonono....just because Barking Dog decided to make the Taiidan evil doesnt mean they are...I would still like a choice in HW2.

Didn't relic say there is only 1 race in the campaign, and 2 in MP. Correct me if I'm wrong, cause I don't feel like looking for a copy of the chat that they had.

Barking dog didn't make them evil, Relic said the kusan are the true race. From what I understand there were big huge discussions on who that was and it was decided to be kusan cause thats the MS thats on the origional box, or something like that. UberJumper or someone else can correct me, but I'm pretty sure thats what happened.
Oh well. As long as they stay playable in MP, I guess it doesnt matter.
Although, on the box cover of Homeworld(GOTY Edition, the one that I have), they have the taiidan and the kushan battling out, and it doesnt say which is the true race, so that cant be it. But if relic says so, fine, i say, be that way. :(

Yea I'm talking about the origional black box, before it went GOTY. It had a pic of the ms on the cover, not the one with the HC on it.

Halo, I don't remember the Taiidan as being particularly "evil" in Cataclysm. Only those factions that still supported the emperor/empire really seemed to be causing the trouble.
Been a while, though. I could be wrong.
