Renaming applications.

All right, I've searched high and low for a week now, and I've decided to just ask if anyone knows where I can find what I'm looking for.

My best friend and I collect series of high quality images (what of, I'd rather not say.), and so far we've collected roughly 2,500 images. Now, these have various file names, mostly random. I'd like a program which would rename images in a selected folder, to a certain numbered system. (i.e. 0000001, 0000002, 0000003, ect). This would save massive amounts of time, which can be used on further collecting.

Or you could write a prog to do it yourself. I wrote a PHP script to do it and I'm damned if it doesn't work mighty well.
