View Full Version : Is it normal for the AI to only build infantry?

Since I updated to 1.3 I've noticed that the AI never builds anything other that low level infantry. Is this normal behaviour for the AI?
I know that they have the resources to do it, I tried it with quickstart resources, and just one AI on a 6 player map. Waited for almost an hour, teching up, didn't attack them or anything, just defended. Nothing, not even a machine cult or the like, just basic infantry. This holds true for all of the races as well, making Orks really boring to play against...

I'm a member of the AI mod team and I can only agree here.
There is a big problem with the AI in v1.3.
Its unrelated to the AI lua code as it will happen with vanilla AI as well as with our mod.
Chaos is worst here. Even on maps with lots of resources it rarely builds sac circle/machine pit. Other vehicle buildings are late too.
Relic, please check this. It takes the fun out of the game while playing against AI or just modding it.
The problem did arise with v1.3, v1.2 was fine.

Ah, found my problem... I had the AI set to easy, set it to standard and it's much better :)

Easy has a very large handicap on it's resource use, standard and hard also have a handicap, harder has no resource differences from a player, and insane gets extra resources. They also use different difficultly levels as far as building, strategies, ect go.

Nevertheless there is a big problem, even with harder AI. Play against chaos and you will see. Chaos won't build sac circle/machine pit in years if ever. Relic has to look into that. Its easly recreatable.
Download this special test map (http://www.viciousbyte.de/files/AI_TEST_map.zip) [500k].
The AI is boxed so there will be no combat, just building/teching.
Set AI to harder, gamespeed to fast and delete your HQ after start. Watch the game going on and check how long it takes for each race to tech to vehicles and build them.
Much longer than v1.2.
I made a detailled analysis and found the prereq code seems to be broken with v1.3
Our teamleader Thudmeizer did send an email to Tacit yesterday. I hope Relic will respond.
I spend hours testing/debugging and I'm a game coder too.
Relic, please don't ignore this.
