View Full Version : Grots failing to build structures

Sometimes when I order Grotz to build something, they simply stand still and do nothing. If I click them to go back to work, nothing happens. I have to move them away and then bring them back to work.

I don't have means of recreating it yet, but I believe I can find some replays where this happens. I'll try to find some and experiment with it, trying to find the conditions when this happens.

I'll leave this thread here for everyone else who has encountered this to give their info/replays on it.

It's really annoying. It has happened many times, but hasn't yet cost me the game (although a couple of close calls with starting a PoG in hopes of Nob Leaders and going to fight on a front to return to find the grots just sitting there, lazy runts).

EDIT: In the replay the bug manifests at 8:33-> When I start building a WAAAGH! Banner next to the Pile of Gunz. The grots stand idle until I order them to move and then order them back to work. I've noticed that this usually happens when the new building to be constructed is close to the grots, but I am not sure how to reproduce it yet.

i watched the replay.
only one gretchin (the master) in the squad is able to build
and in your exemple
the master gretchin is bloked in the middle of the other gretchins of the squad.
some gretchins are near the building but cant build cause they are not the master, and the master is behind them, bloked by them and by the building and by the other gretching bloking the master in his back.

here are 2 problems :
- the pathfinding, where units are not moving when they are bloking a unit which wants to pass
- gretchins with this master system

pathfinding is something complicated in game design
but as i said it, an easy solution (it look easy), would to make all gretchins able to execut the orders, so the first the first gretchin wich arrive to the order objective would be able to start the order without having to wait a master wich is bloked in the middle of other units and buildings.

Jeantend is right. This is caused when the leader Grot (the one with the blue bar) can't reach the build site.

You can work around it in a few ways. Don't build things too close together, or don't build when in a crowd.

Or, you can keep your Grot squads small (3-4 units)... although I don't recommend that approach.

I know it's avoidable, but sometimes you jsut want/need to build things close together and the grot squad is easier to bring close so that it can start building right away. Keeping grots squads small makes them more vulnerable if I want to use them to repair a damaged building during fighting or tie aup a squad of WS. You probably know all this, but I figured I'd post it anyway.
What I'm trying to figure out is why it's so darn difficult to make every grot a "master grot"? I'm failry confident it's intertwined with a load of things and therefore extremely difficult to fix without breaking a multitude of other things, but at least now the issue is identified and someone can start fixing it.

Actually, this was identified in Beta.

But yeah, I agree with everything else you said. In a perfect world this would get fixed.
