(Played on Normal Difficulty and completely overdid things)
Had to fail the mission once in order to get the hang of it. For the first half of the game, it involved doing 3 things simultaneously:
1. Sending the assault marines to fly over the hills and reach the Mars structure. After assuming command, send a techpriest through a tunnel to the structure, repair it, and out pops a baneblade. Using the Leman Russes in the area and the Baneblade, carve a swatch of destruction around the perimeter of the map.
2. Any Guardsman or SM units lying around at the start should be sent to capture the strategic locations. They should be spread evenly between the 7 locations, and have techpriests build listening posts on all of them.
3. Fortify the area around the base with vehicles and turrets.
As soon as all this is done, have 3 techpriests build the generators simultaneously, and then immediately building the next 3. The Necrons will arrive soon after the first generators are built, but by this time all the generators should be completed and the Titan Guns will come online. Your entrenched forces should take care of the warriors, but use the Titan guns on the Monoliths as soon as they come into range. The guns have no cool-down time, so use them constantly.

IS that it???
Disappointingly short.
I thought the original was short....
Not really geared for the single player, which is a shame

There are two campaigns and the last two missions are diffrent for each side. 14 missions, each taking at least two hours to complete, doesn't sound too bad for me.

Short?
I find the WA missions are longer than the original game.

This is really the wrong forum, but it is pretty awful, really, for £25. How many hours of play is that? The missions dont hold any real replay value (apart from the second strand of 5). Its the way of things I suppose. The publishers probably think they can make games on the cheap on the back of online replay value, so no efforts goes into the solo campaign. It should be the cake, not the icing, so to speak.
I have played all the way through the Order missions, and never got around to producing over half of their units..
No Ogryns, Leman Russ, Bane Blades, Hell Hounds, Assassins or Kasrkins, plus load of the Eldar units.
The missions were all high paced, and never really gave me a chance to settle and build. You could have had a couple of slower paced missions to give you the chance to play around a bit, like the first game.
Its a shame, as the game is almost faultless, and the missions were different and inventive.
I suppose I will have to make do with a few solo skirmishes.

This game was never about settling down and building... I loved the campaign for WA more than DoW, the single player may have had annoying moments, but it was intense, and no silly hunkering down

My point being, that the missions should have included the full repotoire.
Otherwise, why bother programming that many units. DoW was very good at introducing new units. A couple of extra missions in WA should have allowed for this.
Dont try and defend WA, as it really is short. I have never played such a short campaign on any rts game. A preview in a computer magazine actually said the biggest criticsism of DAW was its short single player campaign, and this game would address this. I am fairly certain it takes longer to play DAW, as most of WA missions are quite quick to complete in comparison.
The biggest shame is that it is such a good game, and I think we deserve more for £25 considering its an xp, and the original cost about the same.

What's with the Titan's guns? Do they fire by themselves? because I didn't select them or anything, I just killed all the monoliths with the baneblade and a few leman russ's

The Titan Guns need to be manually targeted at the monliths, using the red 'attack' button on their interface. Don't waste their fire first on the warriors, let infantry and tanks take them on, as the coolodown on the titan guns can give the monoliths extra time to bombard them.
A good idea is to assign a titan gun to a different squard group, using ctrl 1 etc. Then cycle through each gun when a monolith comes in their range (denoted by the red line perimiter extending from the gun).
I think that the monoliths take 2 (at the most) direct hits from titan guns to destroy them.
Make sure to send BBlade and Russes around the perimiter before building the generators. The Ork and Chaos bases (about 3 each) probably harass your base while the necrons blow you to hell.

I'm not a particularly skilled player but I completed this mission first time on hard with both IG and Eldar.
As IG I never built any tanks and didn't use the Baneblade. The titans guns make it soooooo easy (3 hits to kill a monolith btw).
As Eldar the Seers are easily a match for the necron squads. I had a couple of tanks and squads of banshees in my base defending and just used the seers and titans guns to wipe out the necrons.

I don't seem to grab a hang on using the Titan. When it is online, I have a hard time finding all the guns it has, as I have never have a gun (or weapon) this big. I know that I am supposed to use the Red attack button, but how do I find the gun that faces the target I want to kill? WHat happened is that the Monoliths (which come in pair in my SE front), killed the generators too fast, that it silenced the Titan cuz it does not fire. (or is it that once the Titan is online, it remains online?) I am playing at Hard difficulty.

€Hotkey each titan weapon by using ctrl+1,2,3 ect and on the map the titan weapons are blue (i think) and will turn white when you select the,, so it shouldnt be too hard to find the right ones

Re: will turn white when you select the,,
When I select the what? I guess my question is how can I find all guns that the Titan have.
(Sorry for the dumb question, as I don't have the game in front of me currently).

Have a look at all the spot that are visible on the exposed parts of the titan, there should be things which look like a masssive upscale of an assult cannon, once the generators are online, simply left click, then tell them to fire once the target is in range. They will only come online once all the generators are built.

The titan gun positions are shown on the mini-map as light blue spots.

Thanks, managed to complete the mission. The hard part, of course was to find the gun that faces the monoliths. Once the gun is online it remains online. I wonder if that "feature" is removed under Insane.

I did this one on insane (actually I did it twice on insane cause I thought I'd made a mistake it was so easy the first time....and I am fully aware this makes me sound like a prat.)
Didn't even use the Baneblade. Just set up the generators one quarter at a time with support as I went. This may be my imagination but it appeared that the bad guys held off assaulting each sector until I started the generators. So, take the surrounding strategic points, bunker them up, post some troops and build away. The Necrons are piss easy with the Titan Guns (accessed as above). I must echo the voices above that stated it was short. The last Necron goes boom and it's game over (I confess to sitting hand on keyboard even as the credits rolled thinking 'Well gee. Is that it?'.
I also felt like some components of the last two missions were just in there to confuse or deliberately mislead me. I have the distinct impression that Mission 5 would have been harder if I'd wasted men on the Baneblade (as well as giving me more things to concentrate on) and don't get me started on those gates (not the main one - the other ones with the 'come to me here' flashing red circles) in Mission 4 (or were they just for the Eldar).
Can't complain about the Single Player game length AS LONG AS you didn't think you were going to get an IG campaign only (which I did) and that was why you bought the game (which I kinda did).
Edit: Vincent - the Big Guns stay activated once they get activated even on insane (losing them if you lost a Generator would have made it interesting).

Ok, so now I understand why I couldn't get the Titan's guns to fire on all of the targets, even when they were showing as in range, I had the wrong gun selected! I just kept using one of them all the time, didn't realise you had to select individual guns as I thought the whole thing was considered as one "unit".
Maybe it'll be third time lucky.... Oh, just to note, I didn't bother with the Mars thingy for the baneblade and although I died both times, it was actually reasonably close, knowing that I'm not as restricted as I believed with the Titan's guns will definitely swing the outcome.
Am disappointed to know that this will be the last of the "order" missions that I'll be playing, other than the Eldar version. :-(

HAHAHA I had no idea about the Titan guns at all, and I got through useing the Basilisks and their earth shaker rounds.
I just got three on them and drove them around pounding on the Monoliths, crazy.
I must say I am really dissapointed it ended so soon. Pretty dissapointing after waiting since Jauary for 5 levels...... :hdown:
Sort of gone off the boil for DOW now, ahh well maybe the ME for it will liven things up again.
That Baneblade is the business though. :muffy:

The Titan guns are extremely effective against the Necron troops as well. One blast, and that squad is toast.
Of course, if a few individuals manage to get past, Ogryns have fun knocking them about.

One question, do the Orks and chaos bases do anything, or are they just there for show. I had a feeling they'd send their elite units to join the fray with the necrons, hence why i destroyed them, or do they act as a buffer against the necron assault?
Saldrin
17th Oct 05, 2:59 PM
They were a buffer for me. The Necrons attacked them first.
My first attempt failed miserably. My second attempt, I completely beefed up all my units and defenses before building a generator. I probably had a good 10 turrets per generator, with bunkers, and it was insanely easy.
There was one Necron building thingy ( sorry, no idea what its called) that I couldn't target with the titan's guns. I had two units of ogryn with priests attached that just demolished it.
The other races are there to harrass you as you build the generators. As long as you don't build the generators, they will sit there idly. Then to make it easier, the necrons do attack them first.

I failed when i just played the mission once... no kidding
I had absoultely no clue what to do & didn't know i had to build all gens to operate the titan... i died horribly to those monolith
But then again, the necron warriors were so simply to defeat...
They move soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slowly & even guardsmen + turrets took them down easily

Those of you talking about killing monoliths with a cardboard spoon, I wonder if we're playing the same game?
When I first played this mission, I thought it was a "timer" mission -- I hold off the necron long enough and the titan jumps up and smashes them.
Maxing my pop cap on LR's with 1baneblade, I couldn't knock even one of the monoliths over.
Once I got my base very spectacularly trounced, after fighting for maybe a half hour (10 turrets a generator? Bah), with dozens of smoking LR's and a couple of ruined BB's, I worked out the titan guns bit, ran the mission again with maybe 1 turret per generator, and won.
Eradicating the enemy bases achieves nothing; the game will continue to spawn enemies even though there isn't a temple/boyz hut in sight.

I just focused on economy with taken all the points asap and building Lp's and doing req upgrades, then quickly built Thermogens everywhere and shot the bucketheads with the titan : p

i found that four leman russ's and the baneblade can blast the monoliths to bits ifthe keep their distance and use their battle cannons and keep tech preists fixing em as you go, takes a bit of time though so i use the titan guns on the others, sentinels dont stand a chance.

You could try this!.
Necron They only come when you have finished the fourth generator. Do not build it untill you are ready
At the start, order every squad you have to capture a strategic point. You have two Space Marine squads on top of your
Imperial Gaurdsmen that can also capture. There's a total of five strategic points and a relic that needs to be captured.
Start building a third Techpriest Enginseer right away, and que up Regimental Command as well.
Work on building a Tactica Command and two Thermo Plasma Generators with your Techpriest Enginseers. Continue capturing the
rest of the strategic points and cap them off when your done with the other buildings. Start on Satallite Targeting
Resolution and Weapon Specialization. Start on Escalate Engagement Research and Strengthen Power Grid as soon as you can.
Keep working on capturing, building and fully upgrading Listening Posts on every strategic point. Groups of both Chaos and
Orks will attack your outposts, so be sure to watch carefully while they are being upgraded. Be sure to research Basalisk
Deop at your Mechanized Command. Get all three Basalisks built. Start moving to the Mars Pattern Command with your main
troops. Provide any fire support with your Basalisks.
Work on more Infantry and Mechanized Commands to increase your squad cap. Start on Full Scale War when your second
Mechanized Command is built. With your spare Techpriest Enginseers, build Heavy Bolter Turrets near the strategic points and
Slag Deposits. Once you reach the Mars Pattern Command, you will gain control of the Leman Russ Tanks there and a Mechanized
Command. Send a Techpriest Enginseer to repair it. Once it's fully repaired, you will gain control of a Baneblade
Put some of your troops to defend the Mars Pattern Command for now. Continue building a line of bolter turrets at your base.
Build enough Infantry and Mechanized Command to cap your max squad number. Upgrade everything you can, such as all the
quarters at Infantry Command and depos at Mechanized Command. Build a third Thermo Plasma Generator and wait
Before the big part of the level begins, replace any of your units with stronger ones you want to. Once you're ready, build
the final three generators. Once you finish the fourth, the Necrons will appear and attack.
They will easily destroy the other bases.
They will destroy you too if you do not finish all six of the generators. Once they are online, some of the outer guns will be avalible to use. Hotkey theses guns for quicker targeting.
You have to wait for the Necron Monoliths to become in range of the Titan's weapons.
It will take two direct hits of a Titan's gun to destroy the Monolith. Once the final Monolith is destroy, you win.

hahah i had no idea how to use the titan guns :( i might go back and try it now that i beat it anyways
I probably did it the hard way!
i didnt build the generators at all as i know it would be a trigger (generic game mechanics, good guess? heh) for attack. Seeing that i'm in the middle of the map i was pretty sure i'm surrounded so i took my time and build up defense and turret up everything around the crit points. After i maxed out tech and made army i went out and mow down the chaos and orks cause i know they'll start attacking when i build generators. at the end they spawn off map but atleast i hurt them lot.
It was very easy to mow them since they didnt really attack me at all early on. (well just this one small attack) after that i got ready and built the generators.
little bit later the necron shows up and boy they hurt. my squads kept dying and two of the titan guns blew up. i got the baneblade at the beginning of the assault so i used it to killed the necrons to my right.
Man the fight dragged on on the left side cause they just didnt stop beating me up. i had to rebuild all my squads and my parameter were all gone already. baneblade blew up so i had to build another one. Luckly by then i had like 50k in resources so it was no problem. I should've switched to higher level units and not stick with guardsman...
While necrons chewed on the titan guns i rebuild and regroup in my base and sent my baneblade along with some russ around to the back of the necron assault. There were 3 monolith there at the time. After my tanks killed two of the monos i sent them to the third one. It wasnt too bad by then cause the monos were defenseless since their warriors were all shooting the titan guns.
finished the last mono and won.
one try at normal diffculty

I started building generators but once the Necrons came i stopped bothering. the mission is quite fun if you dont use the titan guns. At one time all i had was my HQ and infantry command. maxed kasrkins with priests. 2 baslisks, bb and LR's. Very LoTR style last stand and a great replay :)

If you want any chance of surviving don't keep guardsmen. Get kasrkins with priest and commie attached. Max LR's with a BB and 1 bassie.

It was an easy mission. Once i made it to capture the Mars Pattern, i elimated all the enemy bases. The baneblade only took minor damage. (I ruined the enemy with 5 or so leman russes, and the baneblade) :):) Next, i built almost inpenetrable defenses around the titan guns, and only then consturcted the generators. It was really easy.

the stupid titan crew went over to the eleft of the map and stopped! I used the call convoy order and he said "we will use this superior path etc." but he just sat there and eventually the orks and chaos overran us! :skull:

The first time I played through this, I accidentally triggered the Necron entrance by speed building the generators while having practically nothing else built. That was of course, an easy game over.
Upon reading online that completing the 4th Generator was what made the Necrons appear, I built 3 Generators and then tech'ed up. Didn't make it to the Baneblade in time before the place got blown up, as I was focusing on micro'ing other stuff. Didn't realize I wouldn't be able to rebuild the Mars Pattern Command.
Once everything else was ready, and my defenses were fully in place, I started construction of the final 3 Generators. However, I stopped each of their construction a sliver prior to completion. That way, I could simply finish one, activate the Necron entrance, then immediately finish the other 2 and have instant access to the Titan's guns.
Of course, the Titan's guns were my backup plan, which I never had to use.
Out of curiousity, since I'd seen them tear through things during the prior mission, I made all my squads Orgyn squads, with a Priest attached to as many as possible (3, I believe).
The invincible Ogryns destroyed all the Necron Monoliths with little trouble.
