View Full Version : THEM!!! (Insects Mod)

Just think of all the different kinds of insects there are and all the different ways they've found to kill each other!!! Insects for the most part are geometrically compatable with the IC creature combiner because they are horizontal vs. verticle types like people. Praying mantis termites cockroaches spiders scorpions ladybugs all viscous predators (with exception of cockroaches, they could be like scavengers feeding off the bodies of fallen enemies and friends alike). Storyline...see THEM the movie for storyline. Lemme know what you think...also the time period and style would be compatable with the first one...kind of 30's ish right?

Well, you just go right ahead and start modelling a few insects.
If you get a few people working on the mod, it may just happen. :)

Aha...I see...insects are hard to model?!?...but fun I'm sure...

Actually, I just read the documentation for creature specifications, and *ALL* creatures are relatively difficult(well, maybe just tedious) to model. This has a lot to do with my own inexperience, and the requirements for the bones, and textures and such for the 3D model.
However, stretching, and squishing an existing model, such as the lobster, into another creature, such as an ant would be much easier. This is because you have to worry a lot less about things like how the animal will appear when combined with other animals and such, or if there will be any holes, or other errors.
Seriously though, if you use the second method of stretching an existing model into an insect shape, and re-painting it, your mod idea could come to life fairly quickly.

Personally I think a GREAT insect would be flea!!! Combined with another good insect (like giant beetle or something with health) it would be very cool jumpin around:D

I just checked over the list of animals for the retail version of IC, and there are already some insects in there. A mod could maybe use these as base models, and stretch them into the shape of other, weirder, insects.
- ant
- dragonfly
- hornet
- praying mantis
This would be a very interesting mod to IC, methinks.

Okay here are some neat insects....
Bombardier beetle like a chemical tank that fires hot explosive chemicals
Ant Lion...can dig in and set traps that other crawling insects can get trapped in.
Trapdoor Spider(technically an arachnid but who's counting(legs)) can dig and set a trap for enemy units...striking out and grabbing one and bringing it into it's hole
Tarantula Hawk--Strong flying hand to hand unit I guess kind of like an A-10 tank killer except that it has to fly in to close range to do it's work.
Parasitoid wasps--there are parasitoid wasps that fly up and sting/ovadeposite eggs into other insects...the eggs then grow inside enemy units and produce another parasitoid wasp...kind of like Alien!!!
Water bugs and water spiders for aquatic...as well as the viscious carniverous aquatic larval stages of many flying insects.
Distinctions can be made between different types of poisons...Neurotoxins for scorpions and the the other type which does tissue damage/cardio damage like black widows so that you may be immune to some types of poison but not all depending on physiology.
There are midges that fly to a place where their prey is, lay eggs on the leaf, their larva grow a little and then crawl around like little catterpillars and then devour their prey (like aphids) eventually make a cocoon and then back into the flying midge stage.
Insects are a great place for finding a bunch of weird units.
Maybe throw in snails and slugs, gophers and some giant birds maybe there could be carniverous plants that act like towers grabbing and killing nearby insects and you've got yourself Garden Wars. For resources you need different kinds of plants for your insects to feed on. You can either attack the opponents insects via predators or parasitoids (seems like Alien vs. Predator) or use caterpillar/aphid units to destroy the opposing garden.
I think a game like this could be totally fun, educational and just as cutthroat as any other RTS. And might pull a broader market...G rated!!! (Well insects can be pretty violent and disgusting so maybe PG)

Naa incests hard to model? :D
Ive started on one myself. A totaly new patch mesh. It was to be a wasp or hornet untill I found out the already had one. So all modeling has stopped for the time being. I'm going to create a Dino Pack. I have posted the wasp as well as another on my site

If you like what you see i can zip him up and post a link to him.

I like your wasp D...
If work is done on an insect mod sometime in the future there might be a need for more than one wasp. Those parasitoid wasps I mentioned actually look more like your wasp...they are very small and kinda bulbous and green...just like your wasp. I am learning to use gmax, finishing my thesis, and applying to schools all at the same time but maybe in February I might be trying to work on a mod or rally support for one at least...

cool models.... send me them or :yas:
:wise:
erm... D_Fast has since agreed to make models for the Mesozoic Creatures dino mod. This is dated from before he joined us.
They are good models though!
