24th Nov 05, 11:19 PM
Murph was a great person, who always smiled and made me laugh.
Everyone who knew him will miss him.
I don't really have anything else i can say right now besides I know he is in heaven and making it a better palce.

rest in peace mate.
24th Nov 05, 11:27 PM
I'll definitely remember his sense of humor. Murph was an integral part of this community since as far back as I can remember.
Bye, man. Godspeed.
24th Nov 05, 11:27 PM
..Damnit. He was the only guy in the entire forum who actually made me laugh.
Any idea how he died? The article just says "died unexpectedly". Were there health problems? Was there an accident?
This place just isn't going to be quite as amusing without him.
Bye Murph. :(
24th Nov 05, 11:29 PM
Murph? One of the DOW mods?
I don't know what to say aside from "Rest in Peace". I really don't know much about him other than he's a fun guy to talk to.
Also, how on earth did he die?
Anyways, god bless you Murph.
24th Nov 05, 11:32 PM
You were the shit. Best avatars, best attitude, best posts. Your dorm bathroom dilemma had me in tears I was laughing so hard.
I hope you went out happy.
Oh and sorry for annoying you on AIM so much.
24th Nov 05, 11:32 PM
Rest in peace, Murph.
24th Nov 05, 11:33 PM
:( bye murph
I hope this isn't true, they are double checking on IRC
RIP, you were indeed one of the best on these forums
24th Nov 05, 11:36 PM
I knew murph from way back in HW1 days (around 1998 ) and have enjoyed many a game with him.
I remember our days in NWN when we roamed around MERP together.
Not to mention the good times we had on various forums
I will miss him alot....never expected to be writing this... :lonely:
24th Nov 05, 11:38 PM
wow that sucks, anyone know how he died?
24th Nov 05, 11:38 PM
This is just awful. I don't really... just... fuck. Murph was a great guy, a friend for years.
He'll be missed.
24th Nov 05, 11:39 PM
Bye Murph, RIP. :(
24th Nov 05, 11:39 PM
He was more then just a forum moderator. Was with the community since hw, posting in countless clan forums and this forum as well. Always on irc. His first nickname here was DeafandDumb.
24th Nov 05, 11:41 PM
it was said he had a heart attack, but apparently his family is havign tests done now because that may not have been the case
24th Nov 05, 11:43 PM
Can you hear me now?
24th Nov 05, 11:44 PM
24th Nov 05, 11:46 PM
Rest in peace Murph. May you forever be remembered.
Christ..... Please tell me this is some sick joke... :(
If not, R.I.P. Murph. I only talked to him a few times, but from what I gathered he was a great guy.
24th Nov 05, 11:49 PM
later dolt (http://www.relicnews.com/archives/2005/11/murph-you-dolt-well-miss-you/) :-(
24th Nov 05, 11:55 PM
"There is no sound"... I'll miss you good buddy... :(
24th Nov 05, 11:56 PM
I guess he made it to his Homeworld.
Didn't really know the guy, but I can sat that he was always willing to help, and I like that in a bloke.
There should be some kind of a tribute here.
Has there been any mention of a funeral?
General Nuke Em
25th Nov 05, 12:00 AM
Rest in peace, Murph. :(
25th Nov 05, 12:06 AM
I'm sure he's living it up with God right now, having a beer and remembering us live suckers.
We'll miss you Murph. :(
25th Nov 05, 12:18 AM
I didn't know Murph as well as most of you, but he was a great guy on IRC. Good luck, and godspeed. May you rest in peace, I hope you can see Hiigara from up there.
25th Nov 05, 12:22 AM
:( RIP Mate... :(
25th Nov 05, 12:25 AM
There'll be music in heaven mate. And i bet you're loving it.
Take it easy.
25th Nov 05, 12:27 AM
I'm not sure, but I think that captions in HW2 could be partly due to Murph's criticism of HW1's occasionally lacking captions. I can't confirm it and I'm not really up to it right now.
I'm going to miss Murph.
Like many others I've only really known him through IRC. With the others we've talked and joked around for the past 4+ years. He shared his weight and work concerns with us, and I'd like to think we helped him develop his self esteem by treating him normally. No one is deaf in IRC.
There's an empty hole in the nicklist right now, right by the L, M and Ns.
You're a great guy Murph. I'm glad to have met you.
25th Nov 05, 12:39 AM
25th Nov 05, 12:42 AM
Aw geez. I really liked the guy.
Being the inconsiderate prick that I am, I'm not going to haul out the checkbook and make a contribution to the Muscular Dystrophy association as the news article requests for those that wish to leave some sort of memoriam.
I'm going to write up a donation for Child's Play. The way I figure it, Murph probably saw the inside of a hospital more than once or twice in his younger years because of his deafness. He'd probably have appreciated having a video game or two to play, and maybe the same could be said for other kids.
I think Murffles would think something like that was cool, maybe.
25th Nov 05, 12:49 AM
This is just... Christ I don't even know what to say. I still remember his "Cataclysm Ninja" thread from way back when...
Rest peacefully, Murph. You were an integral part to this community, and even though I didn't know you that well, I still feel shell shocked by this news.
gg, hf, carry on. You will be remembered.
25th Nov 05, 12:53 AM
Agreed, Retro. I made my donations a while ago, but I'm going to tell myself and anyone who asks that they're in memory of Steven Jagaczewski, 1984-2005.
Fitz's words are comforting, as are the old threads frst's digging up and the talk on irc. Take care, man.
25th Nov 05, 12:59 AM
gg - good guy.
25th Nov 05, 1:00 AM
Rest in peace, Murph. :(
25th Nov 05, 1:19 AM
Rest in Peace Murph. :rip:
25th Nov 05, 1:23 AM
Rest in peace, Murph.
25th Nov 05, 1:24 AM
Requiescat in pace, Murph. Your zany sense of humour is missed by everyone. :(
The Relic Community is poorer without your presence. Wherever you are now, take care.
25th Nov 05, 1:25 AM
You were truly a great man.
25th Nov 05, 1:47 AM
Aw, never realy got in conversation with him, but seen him plenty around here.
Rip Murph :(
25th Nov 05, 1:52 AM
I didnt really know him, but his posts made me laugh.
Rest in peace, Murph.
If anyone can find murph's avatar (the sign language one) i'd be very grateful.
25th Nov 05, 2:01 AM
Didnt know him all too well but he was a familiar face on the forums and very obviously a involved member of the community who made it a brighter place (especially in relation to some members depressive attitudes :P) where-ever he is now he's probably making that place a little brighter to.
Rest in Peace, dude.
25th Nov 05, 2:04 AM
...somehwere deep inside myself I am clinging onto the notion that this is just a big, cruel, joke. I'd give a kidney if it was. :(
25th Nov 05, 2:41 AM
I hope this thread makes it to his family.
Murph, it was a pleasure and a honor. You did make a difference.
25th Nov 05, 2:48 AM
Damnit Murph, why did you have to go and die. :( :(
Rest in Peace.
General Nuke Em
25th Nov 05, 3:08 AM
I hope this thread makes it to his family.
Assuming nobody has their emails or anything like that, anybody live close to Canterbury, Conn.?
25th Nov 05, 3:15 AM
I had only spoken maybe once to him, but I truly feel sad about this; let him rest in peace; the Greeks used to say that the gods take away early the ones they favor; I hope they were right in his case; goodbye, mate, though I never knew you :(
25th Nov 05, 3:23 AM
Perhaps someone could write a letter to his family on behalf of the community?
I've already dug out his parents address. I will write something over the weekend and in it will point them here.
25th Nov 05, 3:42 AM
I didn't speak to Murph, but I still find it sad.
25th Nov 05, 3:54 AM
I imagine he's probably playing a bug-free Homeworld∞ up there, with the G-man himself.
25th Nov 05, 4:05 AM
r.i.p. Murph. although I hardly knew himbut it was my loss. I hope his family can recover from this loss.
25th Nov 05, 4:06 AM
It's always a shock to hear about board members dying, especially such prominent ones. I'll miss him.
Sadly he is dead. Even more sadly I didn't know him much. I can say that he is one of the few people I ever argued with, it didn't even occur to me to try with him. He was just ... that great guy over there. You know?
Well, I missed my chance to get to know him, but I won't miss my chance to say goodbye. I hope you enjoyed your life as much as we enjoyed having you around. In honour of Murph, I will do something I haven't done in a long long time.
25th Nov 05, 4:23 AM
Its so sad when the young die
I had fun with him
I hope he gets a room with a computer up there
25th Nov 05, 4:36 AM
my condolences to all who knew him, and to those who were denied the opportunity of knowing him.
25th Nov 05, 4:52 AM
Damn this is bad... I only talked to him a few times on IRC..
RIP Murph, you'll be sorely missed :(
25th Nov 05, 4:52 AM
Fitzie, please do, and include his two sisters as addressees (their names are in the linked article). Perhaps if they could understand how many "virtual friends" he had here, it might provide them with some small comfort.
Holy Chaos Ryu
25th Nov 05, 4:56 AM
Wow,so sad :( He really helped me out on my first day here, but apart from that, I never really spoke to the guy, but at least I can say goodbye. R.I.P Murph.
-Every good man is just an angel missing from Heaven.
25th Nov 05, 5:16 AM
I hope You find others You may say "Later, dolts!" to...
25th Nov 05, 5:17 AM
Never had the chance to talk to you much, but the community won't be the same without you.
Rest in peace Merf, you will be remembered.
25th Nov 05, 5:19 AM
Murph...hard to believe he's gone. He was like halfway between a regular and a lurker, always showing up at unexpected moments and blowing the forums out of the water for a little while before disappearing to god-knows-where for like a month before resurfacing again. Like that whole 'Matrix Retarded' deal which accumulated into this...
...which I unfortunately do not have a full sized copy of. It's going to feel real wierd without his antics spicing things up now and again.
RIP mate: the Relic Boards is worse off without you.
25th Nov 05, 5:27 AM
I never really talked to him but i was a witness of his funny postings.
It's always hard to hear about young people dying.
The ones who loved him should be he ones we comfort.
I hope his relatives see this thread.
25th Nov 05, 5:33 AM
Ouch. Von Merf of BERF, you will be missed my friend.
I've known murph for years; I helped him build his first website and we shared many good laughs together. Truly a microcosm of legend in his own right.
See you later, dolt.
This is a sad day. Rest in Peace merfles, I'll miss you.
25th Nov 05, 5:57 AM
Rest in peace Murph, you'll be missed. You certainly made an impression on everybody, and your sense of humour was one of a kind.
Godspeed to wherever you are now.
25th Nov 05, 6:00 AM
Holy shit... Didn't see this one coming :(
Murph was a great guy... I suck at saying stuff like this... so I'll just say that he was awesome, and he will be remembered.
25th Nov 05, 6:08 AM
Been sitting for 20 minutes starring at a blank reply box.
It's not fair. How can someone with so much life in him die so young?
Easily the best sense of humour in the community. An awesome person and a great friend. My thoughts go out to his family.
This got a tear out of me. He'd be calling me a fag and telling me to shut the fuck up right about now.
I'll miss you, dolt; we all will. Farewell.
25th Nov 05, 6:18 AM
Well.. i'm pretty much at loss of words. As always when friends die... words really don't convey things for me.
I couldn't help but feel John Cleese said it best:
"Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard, i hope he fries! And the reason i feel i should say this is he would never forgive me if i didn't, if i threw away this glorious oppurtunity to shock you all on his behalf. Anything for him but mindless good taste!"
That's from the eulogy for Graham Chapman but i think it can be applied Murph's case as well. I always enjoyed talking to him on IRC because you knew the conversation would break down into name calling of the most imaginative kind just like it should among friends. :)

25th Nov 05, 6:41 AM
You were my good friend, and I'll miss you.
25th Nov 05, 6:49 AM
One of a kind who brought a truly unique aspect to these boards.
Au revoir Murph.
25th Nov 05, 6:51 AM
If anyone has the pics of me and murph pretending to be ninjas with the HW2 boxes...
I haven't been at so much of a loss for words in a long time. How the hell do you express loss?
What a great guy with a great soul. We'll all miss you murphlez.
25th Nov 05, 6:59 AM
I will miss you, brother Space Lord... :(
25th Nov 05, 7:06 AM
I am speechless. Last time I chatted with Murph, he was off to tech school and getting to meet new people and doing a lot of growing up from what I could tell. I just can't believe he is gone.
25th Nov 05, 7:07 AM
Dammit, once I realised he was exactly my age this has become even more unbelievable....
25th Nov 05, 7:08 AM
Murph was around this community for yonks...always had something funny to say.A cracking sense of humour he had and we always had a right laugh on IRC when he was around.
Murphles mate,you'll be missed.
25th Nov 05, 7:13 AM
Dan's linking of that image of the bald murph reminds me of when I had my head shaved and we were the bald boys of #homeworld.
I woke up at 3am last night and had a chat with my wife about him. She knew his name because I'd told her about him passing on some ASL signs during our course.
25th Nov 05, 7:14 AM
I've been lurking on this board for a long time & he has always been hear. I can't say i know him well but he was a rather proment member of the boards & a decent guy. I really don't know what to say other then Gods speed my friend & may you find peace.
We will miss you.
25th Nov 05, 7:17 AM
The good times: Murph and Starfisher's HW2 purchase/ninjar acshin. Photos are down, unfortunately. (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=16288)
25th Nov 05, 7:30 AM
I can't believe he is gone.
25th Nov 05, 8:00 AM
I didn't know him, but he always seemed like a total badass to me.
gg Murph... RIP
Murph... murph... wasnt he the guy with the custom title 'There is no sound'?
Damn... Not that I ever knew that guy that much... made a few posts in the same threads as him... anyways... RIP.
25th Nov 05, 8:09 AM
Very sad news, really liked that guy, rest in peace buddy.
25th Nov 05, 8:11 AM
I never spoke to Murph, but I will still have a moment of silence. God bless you Murph, I did not have the honor of knowing you.
25th Nov 05, 8:21 AM
a couple of my favorite memories of murph besides the regular, everyday joking around friendly banter
since murph was deaf, when he was using phone, they have interpeters that have to type everythign i say, and say everything that murph typed or said to me. man, we had some serious fun with that. like. i pee'd my pants irl almost. i didn't know there was such a job as an interpeters. and they like, HAVE to say everything you say or type, cus it's their job. that was so funny.
then this thread: http://www.eve-evol.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2510
you can't see it now cus the links are dead, and i may try to find the pics later from my hd at home, but there was a pic of me on murphs lap. photoshopped pretty damn well. and i had a face, and murph had a face. and it looked pretty funny ;[
then i made a pic of naked skydivers with some people's faces, obviously including murphs. and it was funny too.
it was always like that with murph. i can honestly say he was one of the few people that have only ever made me laugh and have a better time.
fitz - punkz is going to try and get his family's mailing address info this morning if you haven't already.
25th Nov 05, 8:23 AM
who am i to make fun of on irc now. well fuck, later murph, i will actually miss you. fuck. keep on being that guy you motherfucker
I never really know murph much but RIP anyway d00d. :rip:
25th Nov 05, 8:36 AM
Don't know what to say. Right now, I can't really believe it - I keep expecting him to join #hw and say something like "Haha, tricked you, fuckers!"
Murph was a great friend, and I'm going to miss him like hell. Rest in peace, comrade.
25th Nov 05, 8:42 AM
Ahhh fuck! Murph was one of the first people to greet me when I first joined the forums. Dammit, he was a good guy. He will be missed.
Rest In Peace, Murph.
25th Nov 05, 8:49 AM
Rest in peace, Murph. :(
25th Nov 05, 8:49 AM
25th Nov 05, 8:54 AM
I didn't know him but i've definatly seen him around and knew he had an impact on this community. He will be missed. Maybe Relic should put a character named Murph as a cameo in a game like The Outfit. A Soldier who had a shell go off close to him which damaged his hearing. Says a few lines of dialogue in a cutscene (tells player about enemy fortifications ahead) and then leaves with a "See ya dolts!"
25th Nov 05, 8:56 AM
Rest In Peace, Murph
:( good times in HW, hope you are enjoying the new scenery.
25th Nov 05, 8:59 AM
A Murph easter egg in a future Relic game would rule.
Used to be it would rule because Murph was awesome.
Now it would rule because he needs some tribute.
25th Nov 05, 9:04 AM
I'm speechless for once. And coming from me thats a big deal...
RIP Murph :(
25th Nov 05, 9:12 AM
I didn´t know him, but many people say that he was the most funny moderator here
25th Nov 05, 9:13 AM
RIP, its sad to see a community member die, but one oddity.
If he died on the 15th, why does his account show his last online time was
Last Activity: 22-11-2005 12:31 PM?
25th Nov 05, 9:20 AM
Sad. Truely, but there is more beyond what we do here and he is likely makeing it a kicking party!
Rest In Peace, From a new forum go'er who had limited encounters with you, you made quite the impression. This kind of thing is always sad when something like this happens in a community but it's also great that we can remeber the laughs!
25th Nov 05, 9:22 AM
Targeter mentioned on IRC last night that he saw someone sign into MSN on his PC this week as well. I'll wager it was his parents or other family looking around at things on his PC.
Murph was around when Hougy tried to fake his death, he wouldn't try something that tasteless.
25th Nov 05, 9:36 AM
I only spoke to you once but you typed a funny reply that made me laugh. GG Murph, rest in peace.
25th Nov 05, 9:42 AM
Well, sad to see him go. I bet he's up there with all those shiny butterflyknives he wanted.
He will be missed.
25th Nov 05, 9:56 AM
Rest in peace Murph, gl hf and enjoy the music... You'll be missed until we meet you again.
25th Nov 05, 9:58 AM
I never chatted with Murph, any more than I've chatted with anyone here. But his posts showed he was a funny and intelligent person.
He made me laugh more than once. But he could also debate a position in a rational and intelligent fashion. Those of you who know me at all know that that is quite possibly the best compliment I could give a person. He argued well.
The forum is diminished.
25th Nov 05, 10:01 AM
I remember when he was looking for pics for the sign language avatar, wasn't that particularly rude at one point? And his campaigning for more subtitles in hw2, he was a great guy.
RIP Murphlz, you'll be missed :(
25th Nov 05, 10:07 AM
I didn't know him at all, but anyone dying at 21 is wrong.
From what I have read here, you were a great person Murph, which is a claim that very few people can make these days.
25th Nov 05, 10:22 AM
This place won't be the same without him. He was a cranky bastard and we all loved him for it.
EDIT: Can someone please sticky this thread.
25th Nov 05, 10:24 AM
I am speechless. Oh my god. I will miss ya mate. I just cant believe you left us. I know where ever you are you are making someone laugh and having a good time. Rest in peace bro.
words fail me right now...
rest in peace
25th Nov 05, 10:27 AM
Enjoy the music and birds etc now Murph.
Rest in peace, I'll see you someday.
25th Nov 05, 10:32 AM
this is a sad sad day, you will be missed merf
25th Nov 05, 10:38 AM
I never knew him all that well, just saw many of his posts around the boards... its so weird to know that someone can just... vanish. I don't know what to say. Fuck, I hardly knew him and I still have tears in my eyes...
Rest in peace.
25th Nov 05, 10:39 AM
Well, I was never a veteran of the old days, but I saw him around and he was always able to contribute valuably. This loss is both the forums and the worlds. Farewell, Murph.
25th Nov 05, 10:59 AM
I known Murph well for a good few years on IRC and we talked on MSN frequently.
This comes as a horrible shock and it's a massive loss for the Relic Community.
Murph, wherever you are, and if you're watching down on us, I know this will raise a smile...

God bless you Murph.
This is Murph, taken in July 2005. We on IRC requested, since he had a webcam, for random objects to be placed on his head. A banana, a cup and a meat pie followed, but alas I have no pictures of those.

I knew Murph since the early days of the original Homeworld and had many great times with him on WON and on IRC. Recently, he was putting a lot of time as DM into a NWN module that I have been modding on. It's going to be impossible to replace him, he was a standup guy all around and will be sorely missed.

Damnit, Merf, man, wtf.
I didn't know you as well as some but you were a good guy. Funny as hell. It's a goddamn shame. We'll miss you.

Farewell, Murphles. I hope you're playing Homeworld somewhere right now.

25th Nov 05, 12:33 PM
I never had the pleasure of knowing Murph, but my heart goes out to his family and friends at this sad time.
25th Nov 05, 12:37 PM
Murph, I wouldn't be the person I am today if I hadn't met you. At first I hated you, I didn't understand while you always banned me, insulted and abused me. I eventually realized you were telling me, in your own special way, that I should relax, stop taking things so seriously and grow up.
Thank you Murph, else, I might still be a depressed emo furry. Godspeed.
25th Nov 05, 12:45 PM
I wonder how long it would take for the community to know if another prominent member died? According the the obituary he died 10 days before this thread was posted.
I'll shall reinstall Homeworld and go online tonight if I can.
25th Nov 05, 12:46 PM
Murph you've been a friend for a long time and always made an effort to keep in touch. You were a true inspiration and someone I deeply respect. You'll be missed very much m8!

Sadly I didn't talk to you enough Murph. It's always the same, once you never again get a chance to do something, you deeply regret not doing it when you had the chance.
Rest in peace.
They say Angels sing Murph.
25th Nov 05, 12:49 PM
If you all could help me collect any funny quotes, pictures, anything, I'd really appreciate it. Although i never knew him as more than "that funny moderator", I would like to create a video commemorating him. Anything would be greatly appreciated, and I'll get it up as soon as it's done.
Rest in Peace Murph.
25th Nov 05, 12:51 PM
Sad to see Murph go. Good gaming with you mate.
25th Nov 05, 12:55 PM
So sad :sadpanda:
Murph was always a good laugh, here and on IRC. Like shin said, there will be a hole in IRC we wont be able to fill.
25th Nov 05, 1:15 PM
Oh man, this comes so unexpected.... It seemed to me he was doing quite well for himself lately. I am devastated by this.
I've known him for years, and have talked and played a lot with him... Especially NWN and HW2, where we were (sort of) an unbeatable duo in 2vs2's.
I can't really express what this feels like, he was among the best friends I had in this community. His sense of humor was incredible.
Goodbye mate, I'll miss you a lot.
25th Nov 05, 1:33 PM
I didn't know him personally, but I have seen him around here far too much not to known of him. It really is tragic how you're here one minute, and gone the next. No one is above this principle; it must happen to all of us, even if we aren't ready.
I can only hope his last moments were peaceful.
25th Nov 05, 1:58 PM
Seeya Murphs we will put that backroom to good use in IRC, maybe turn it into a tea room. Although i dont think many people will want to go there after what you used to do to us there :D
A rather odd thing to say but, whenever my ass hurts ill think of you :P
(Im nearly 60% sure most IRCers will know what that means)
See ya Murph, the world will be a darker place without you :(
25th Nov 05, 2:18 PM
Bye Murph, we all miss you man.
Very sad to see a prominent and well liked member of the Relic Boards die.
I'll be on HW tonight, 730 PM est.
I found some more pics of merf in my stuff:
(ps thats banshee, griffin, blood & murph)
He'd never forgive me if I censored that one for the forums ;)
25th Nov 05, 2:45 PM
Although I don't think I ever directly talked with him, he still seemed like a great guy.
I do have this, however:
25th Nov 05, 2:52 PM
Guess that graphics card I sent didn' t really cut it eh?
25th Nov 05, 2:56 PM
I am sorry to hear this. I didnt know Murph well or much for that matter. He seemed like a great guy. Rest in peace my good man.
25th Nov 05, 3:11 PM
heh, yea, he was the only one that has as avatar his own angry head ;)
It was fun reading his Lock thread posts.
See you man, one day....
25th Nov 05, 3:39 PM
Can't say I knew him but it sounds like he was quite a person and it is a shame i never got the chance. R.I.P
25th Nov 05, 4:04 PM
Will miss your smurfs on WON and humor.
25th Nov 05, 4:11 PM
I'm sitting here getting a little sozzled on the champagne I opened to toast Murph. All of you are welcome to join me in my increasingly drunken state on IRC (http://hwcommunity.com/irc/). Think of it as our wake.
25th Nov 05, 4:14 PM
I've known Murph for years and this comes as a devestating shock. I first met him while playing NWN and we became fast friends. Lately Murph had been a key member in a modding team for nwn and will be irreplaceable.
Rest in peace, man.. without you I would never have learned how to say shit head in sign language. =\
25th Nov 05, 4:17 PM
Remember seeing him around a lot and he seemed like a nice fellow. My condolences to his family and friends.
All the best Murph
25th Nov 05, 4:25 PM
not only am i shocked at this, but deeply saddened. murph was a good friend on irc and someone whom i got along with well, like most of you here. murph wil definitely one to be missed. talk about shittinn on my day (13 hour shift at best buy then coming home to this)
FAREWELL BALANCER OF THE PIE.
also can we get some sort of contact information to send our condolences on behalf of of the community and or personal notes?
25th Nov 05, 5:24 PM
I've been in this thread like six times now, and I still can't come up with anything to say.
I only "knew" Murph through the forums, and not well at that, but he definitely made an impression. The boards won't be the same without him dropping into a thread, making a post that was either completely random, completely brilliant, or most often both, and then disappearing again. :)
Here's to ya, man: :Pint: :Pint:
25th Nov 05, 5:32 PM
Didn't know him besides from what he posted here. After it dawned on me that he was deaf, I remember thinking 'damn, he won't be able to hear the lovely sounds that an assault frigate makes when attacking'.
No one deserves to die that young. I hope you lead a fulfilling life, nice to see you will be missed. Condolences to the family.
25th Nov 05, 6:05 PM
I knew Murph only by the forum posts he made, a couple of DoW games, and a couple of chats we had when he would log onto the FPL irc channel. Even tho we only had a few chats, every conversation would end with me laughing. He was witty and had a great personality.
:rip: Murph, and wish I could have known you better.

good journey for your spirit.
25th Nov 05, 7:11 PM
Haven't been on IRC in a long while, but back in the day he definitely made the place lively. RIP Murph =(
25th Nov 05, 7:19 PM
I tried to play HW but was unable, so I played the credits and the final image compelled me to make this as a humble tribute:

R.I.P. Murph, you will be missed.
25th Nov 05, 9:37 PM
RIP, Murph. We'll miss you.
25th Nov 05, 9:51 PM
Just did a search of his posts, and I found his last one:
One of the things you gotta realize is that these DPS models and such do not substitute for understanding how things really work in-game.
In other words, what appears to be so on paper isn't how it's actually done.
I, for one, wish Relic never released the information on these games as far as armor, penetration, DPS, etc because it just fuels the fire for the people crying about nerfing or buffing units.
Reading that stuff is just so... weird. I'm getting on Homeworld right now, hope to see you guys there.
25th Nov 05, 10:11 PM
RIP Murph, I never knew you, saw you around a couple of times though.
25th Nov 05, 10:16 PM
Wow this....this is shitty.I was wondering where he went as i hadnt seen him for quite a while. Then BAM this pops up.
It makes you wonder how many people who "dissapear" do so involuntarily.
If i die,no one on the internet will probably know.
He didnt really get to do much as a dow mod........this didnt take place that long after he got the appointment. How sad.......
25th Nov 05, 10:28 PM
:( I just heard the sad news today.
R.I.P mate, you will be missed.
25th Nov 05, 10:34 PM
I didn't know Murph very well at all. The last time I remember seeing him was in a HW tourney where he and n00b formed team PRONOPRAWNS and murph smurfed as OneEyedMonster. They played an awesome game. One of the best I have ever been privlidged enough to be in. Too bad I did not get to know you better. Rest in peace man.
25th Nov 05, 11:03 PM
Rest in Peace Murph.
Great guy, we'll miss you.
25th Nov 05, 11:06 PM
From frst, via IRC:
<lilpunkie420> so murph do u change ur dresses everyday or do u like that green one so much u just wear it everywhere
<lilpunkie420> like in cartoons where they dont change their clothes
<murph> I wear my dress every day

25th Nov 05, 11:21 PM
Murph... knew him off and on since the original HW came out, really lost touch with him and most of the community a year or two ago.
RIP Murph. Enjoy the great LAN party in the sky.
25th Nov 05, 11:22 PM
25th Nov 05, 11:51 PM
26th Nov 05, 12:26 AM
this really brings everyone together, dang
i barely knew him but still having someone in this commuity die, it just gets you, especially a guy around for as long as him. i wish there was someway of me pay respect, all i can say is well.........RIP
I don't know if these count as practical jokes, but hey.
Another simple thing I've done was slip a condom over the tailpipe of a buddy's truck.
Those things get HUGE.
his last post tear
26th Nov 05, 1:32 AM
Murph... died.... Wow, this was unexpected.
To Murph, a good and sporting DoW player, and an excellent moderator, may the Emperor guide you soul.
26th Nov 05, 1:46 AM
I'll miss you Murph. <3
26th Nov 05, 2:20 AM
oh shit...bad news...
Riposa In Pace
I have updated the first post of this thread with a list of the tributes to Murph, including the auction. Please check it out.
26th Nov 05, 4:23 AM
I never really spoke to Murph, but he was a forum legend. Maybe make a thread full of his best and funniest quotes along with the pictures?
Sad to see a member of the forum go. :(
26th Nov 05, 6:17 AM
I am hardly able to describe my feelings of loss.
We talked for hours. I don't think my life will ever be the same without him.
I'll remember him as one who was more than a part of the community, more than someone who played games and haunted IRC. He was a funny, easy-going and profound person.
I love you man, my life won't be the same without you. Maybe I'll see you some day.
26th Nov 05, 6:25 AM
Rest in Peace.
26th Nov 05, 8:29 AM
I never knew Murph, beyond the deaf jokes and the anecdote relating to how lame it is to have a communal bathroom. Not an IRC guy, and thus it seems I have little comprehension of who Murph really was. Oh well.
GG, you're in the best hands at this point. Rest In Peace, until the end of the world.
26th Nov 05, 9:49 AM
Even though I did not know Murph existed, Rest In Peace. May you have good times playing Dow and WA with God and His Angels and Jesus and Mary.
I cried loudly after reading the thread becuz of the loss of this great person. Man this makes life so fragile that i want to cherish it more. Reminds me of the religion teacher talking about sudden deaths and stuff.
26th Nov 05, 11:03 AM
Never had the pleasure of knowing you mate.
Hope you're having fun, where ever you are.
26th Nov 05, 11:40 AM
I've been out of town the past few days and just came home and read this.
I hope I can speak for the rest of the Space Lords Syndicate in saying, we'll miss him. He was a friend and comrade in arms. Enjoyed playing with and against him. I really don't know what to say.
I remember seeing him come on Battlecomm and wondering why he wasn't talking back to me....then having to clean some egg off my face after another SLS member told me why in a Won game chat.
Murph had a good laugh at me....then he kicked my arse in Homeworld.
Rest in Peace, Brother.
26th Nov 05, 11:42 AM
I remember seeing him come on Battlecomm and wondering why he wasn't talking back to me....then having to clean some egg off my face after another SLS member told me why in a Won game chat. Ahhahahahaha!
26th Nov 05, 11:43 AM
Murph was great, he was really funny.
Rest in peace mate
Can someone (eg ion/molo or other tasteful sig makers) possibly come up with a little sig tribute?
26th Nov 05, 1:41 PM
You'll be missed.
26th Nov 05, 1:44 PM
I second reki... might take a shot at that myself, but I kinda suck at tasteful sigs.
26th Nov 05, 1:59 PM
Although I'd only known him for a short time, I came to appreciate his humour and am greatly saddened to see him go :(.
:rip: Murph, we miss you.
26th Nov 05, 2:00 PM
Murph and I often insulted one another in IRC, often making fun of each other's weight and sexual orientation, but one of the last things he told me was that i got better at playing dow multiplayer. Saying that told me that he wasn't a complete jackass, and i'm glad he didn't go leaving me disliking him.
/me raises his glass
Here's to ya, mate.
here's to ya.
General Nuke Em
26th Nov 05, 3:32 PM
I have an idea for a sig - does anybody know what race and color scheme Murph liked to use in Homeworld?
26th Nov 05, 3:36 PM
Rip murph. :(
Murph was a great person, and although i knew him not as well as others here do, he shall be missed. Oh dear, i was never good at keeping them wet things out of my eyes...:(

26th Nov 05, 4:48 PM

26th Nov 05, 5:09 PM
"only the good die young, all the evil seems to live forever" classic maiden song.
26th Nov 05, 6:34 PM
I honestly cannot believe this bad news! Murph used to be able to piss me off and make me laugh almost simultaneously. His sense of humor was as good as any person i've ever known. He used to pm me on msn all the time and it was always under a new name so i had no idea wtf i was talking to. Our conversation eventually made me realize who it was but i think he liked keeping me in the dark. The SLS IRC is where i really got to know murph and i'm glad that i did. We had a lot of good conversations on a great many topics.
My condolences go out to his family, i hope they come to know that they don't grieve alone. Murph made an impact on many, many people.
RIP my friend
26th Nov 05, 6:44 PM
Did he really die of a heart attack at 21? That just seems unnatural. Well Murph I did not know you very well, I hardly even knew you at all, but it is sad to lose such a valued member of the relic community. Well Murph I hope you're in a better place now. Maybe you're playing homeworld right now in a better place.
26th Nov 05, 7:09 PM
26th Nov 05, 7:24 PM
wow, i never talked to him much myself but ive read countless of his posts.
26th Nov 05, 7:49 PM
It's terrible when a respeced member of the community dies, but I'm glad that we heard of it instead of him just dropping off the face of the Earth with no news on it.
I never really knew Murph, but when I did lurk on IRC and the forums from time to time, his various stories made me laugh like I was some sort of idiot.
We'll miss you, Murph. Hope you found a better place than this world to live in.
26th Nov 05, 8:54 PM
Sad day. Such a young guy, too. :( Sucks.
26th Nov 05, 10:50 PM
Geez... fire up the forums after two days absence and I find this waiting for me. This is so depressing.
Murph, we miss you buddy. I think I speak for all of us there. Good luck on that afterlife thing, hope it all works out for you.
27th Nov 05, 4:55 AM
I never really new Murph. But dammit... people shouldn't die this young. :(
27th Nov 05, 9:25 AM
i don't who he is but he sounds like a great guy. so rest in peace Murph
27th Nov 05, 9:36 AM
a heart attack at 21 is flat out unbelievable, how could something like that happen to someone as kickass as he?
I have been absent for what, half a year, and this is what I find? I'm really fucking sad right now..atleast he said goodbye. R.I.P Murph, I'll miss you.
27th Nov 05, 11:40 AM
Goodbye Murphles. I'll always remember that avatar of yours :)
27th Nov 05, 12:02 PM
I did not know him well and have nothing whitty or truly intresting to add, from what I knew and had heard of him he was a clever beast and any man with a sense of humor is a good man in my book.
All I can say is that I hope him the best where ever he is.
27th Nov 05, 1:00 PM
I'm new to these forums, never hear of Murph before. I've read all the post and I'd like to give my condolences to everyone who knew Murph and especialy to his family.
R.I.P. Murph, Blessed be.
27th Nov 05, 1:51 PM
Murph you always had me in tears of laughter, rest in peace buddy.
Oh yeah, maybe we should organize a worldwide toast to him. We could use it to kick of the drunken writing contest...
27th Nov 05, 2:27 PM
Murph, I didn't know you so well as others, but still I enjoyed your presence in #dow_community irc channel. Might want to come ghosting there :ghost:
Rest in peace.
27th Nov 05, 2:42 PM
GG then I suppose.
27th Nov 05, 2:55 PM
Rest in peace Murph.
strange... I have nothing else to say... all those hours in mIRC and... nothing...
27th Nov 05, 2:58 PM
Just found out this morning from Plei. God you'll be missed mate.
My thoughts are with you. Peace.
27th Nov 05, 3:01 PM
I didn't know you Murph, but you'll be missed. Even if there is no afterlife, you will live on in the memories of your friends, family and your thread brothers. You will not be forgotten.
Peace be with you.
27th Nov 05, 3:28 PM
I didn't really know Murph well, but he always made good posts, and seemed like a decent guy. R.I.P.
27th Nov 05, 3:51 PM
Althougth I did not know this guy, I dont even know he existed, it pains me to
hear of his demise :(
Well, I guess this dont matters when it comes from me, but it`s always sad when someone dies, maybe even more so a community member.
Rest In Peace, Murph.
27th Nov 05, 4:32 PM
27th Nov 05, 9:38 PM
I didn't even know.
Murph was a good guy.
My condolensces to his family if they are browsing.
28th Nov 05, 9:19 AM
<Salute> To Murph.
He was a good friend of mine. We shared many good conversations together. He also had a great sense of humor. It sucks that he has passed away and he will be missed... RIP bro.
<SALUTE> your friend VictorSLS
28th Nov 05, 10:33 AM
28th Nov 05, 1:31 PM
His death makes me think of how mortal we are, how one day we live as any other, and the next... we're gone. Live for today.
And I'm wondering what his name was - it seems stupid giving our condolences to his screen name, rather than the man himself.
Godspeed, whoever you were.
28th Nov 05, 1:35 PM
Well, we knew him as Murph, so we should salute him as such. What do we know about Murph the man? Well, quite a lot, apparently, but we knew Murph as Murph on the froums most of all, and I think it is appropriate to salute him for what we knew him for. :salute:
28th Nov 05, 2:02 PM
Rest in peace, Murph. Like anything irreplaceable, you're sorely missed.
28th Nov 05, 2:05 PM
Does anyone know what caused the heart attack? To have one at 21 is extremely unlikely. Something must have caused it.
28th Nov 05, 2:06 PM
I don't know if anyone else has suggested it, but I think this thread should be vaulted.
28th Nov 05, 2:09 PM
I second that motion, lest we forget.
28th Nov 05, 2:35 PM
I really hope they put in a Murph easter-egg into the next Relic game, that would be very appropriate and he would have loved it.
28th Nov 05, 2:48 PM
I second the suggestion for this thread to be vaulted; it is not only appropriate for a respected and cherished member of the boards to be remembered through it, but also indicative of the solidarity of the community.
28th Nov 05, 3:23 PM
Well, I've placed a thread in Vault voting:
28th Nov 05, 4:16 PM
I saw him around, but really never talked with him. He will be missed. :salute:
Steve, was probably one of my closest friends online. Excellent HW player, excellent friend, excellent person.
One of my best memories was him and I on AIM talking, it went something like this:
His S/N was Murphwastaken, cause... Murph was already in use on AIM.
mst3k123> sup dude?
murphwastaken> nothing messing with my speakers
mst3k123> dude, you are deaf... wtf?!
He was a huge DD fan. Use to play Pencil and Paper all the time. He got me playing Neverwinter Nights with him for a while on a PW server called 5realms with the Drunken warriors, had a great time killing everyone with him. AND HE TAUGHT ME ALL THE EXP CHEATS IN 5R!!! When 5R opened up to guild halls, him and I decided to make a theif's guild. It was huge, but the GMs let us put it in. Awesome guild hall I thought. Had alot of fun messing around with everyone on there.
After I left Neverwinter to play counter-strike and final fantasy 11, Murph and I still chatted on AIM, and bragged about how great our games were and the other was silly for still playing it.
Never got a chance to play Dawn of War with him, but he prolly would have beaten me worse than I beat him in HW...
On a more personal note: I'm really going to miss murph, we'd fallen off talking in the last few months cause we both were busy with life. I don't even know if he was able to finally get that girlfriend he always wanted but I don't think he had a bad life... I know it wasn't an easy life, but not a bad one.
28th Nov 05, 10:08 PM
I second 5th's idea and ask that jumper or someone else bring attention to the devolpers...though I know monk and others might already know.
28th Nov 05, 10:36 PM
Immortalize Murph in Company of Heros. Create a demolitions unit and use one of Murph's pictures as the facial model. That way he can continue to blow stuff up even from where ever he might be.
29th Nov 05, 12:19 AM
Immortalize Murph in Company of Heros. Create a demolitions unit and use one of Murph's pictures as the facial model. That way he can continue to blow stuff up even from where ever he might be.YES! He'd love that...
29th Nov 05, 12:40 AM
3rd the idea, would definitely be something worthy to do. hopefully one of them devs read the forums (god help them) and take the idea to heart.
29th Nov 05, 2:57 AM
We'd probably have to consult his family though; they may not approve of his likeness being used in that way.
29th Nov 05, 6:45 AM
Murph, you are missed and you will always been in my thoughts.
I didn't know him all that well, but I have known him for a long time and always polite, funny, and inquisitive. Rest in peace Murph.
