Painting Blood Ravens.. (image links broken)

Hey first tutorial.. woo.

This post is particularly for VtraXx for helping him start his own blood ravens army, but others can just check it if they wanna start a blood ravens army, or they can check it out for the sake of it..

Okay I decided to do it step by step rather than paint the whole mini taking pictures as I go along. Anyways heres the first pic.

Here he has been painted as:
Armor= Dark Flesh. ( Don't have to get x-tremely smooth, just get it on!)
Bone shoulders= Graveyard Earth (a few layers to get a smooth coat)
Gold bits= Basecoat of Tin Bitz
Greens= (eyes + lights on backpack) Dark Angles Green.

ohh yea... note that the model was fully assembled and the base was sanded before he was spray painted with black primer...

Heh Actually not to start the army help me in a scheme! Because alot of the reds and colour schemes i chose and made up were either:
a. Too complicated
b. Too Time-Consuming
c. Will Drive me insane.

Then yours popped up so I decided to ask.

Well.. man I can't beleive how much I've painted today. Breakthrough!

Anyways... Blood Raven is updated.

Here he is:
Armor= 50/50 Dark Flesh + Blood Red. (Any lines that got paint in them were carefully lined again with black ink.)
Bone shoulders= 50/50 Graveyard Earth + Bleached Bone.
Gold bits= Brazen Brass.
Greens= 70/30 Dark Angles Green + Skull White.

Here he is agin, showing the comparison between the basecoat of dark flesh and the red mix to give you an idea of how the red should look..

Well... Blood Raven is almost done..

Right now.. he is:

Armor- Highlight of Blood Red.
Bone Shoulders- Bleached Bone.
Gold- Shining Gold
Greens- 50/50 mix Dark Angels Green + Skull White..

hmm I dunno really... Ive been out all day yesterday so got no painting done then, but all up its probly bout 2 1/2 hours.. but then again Im a lazy painter.. I paint for about 10 mins before I take a break of about an hour. Hmmmm I'm also wondering, this marine I'm painting now is the sergeant of my newly recruited devestator squad, anyone know what markings the have on the left shoulder? Is'nt it the triangle or something?

Yes, it is a triangle but the bottom of it is bottom of the shoulder pad.

Blood Raven is finished...

Finished he is:

Armor- Final Highlight of 50/50 Golden Yeloow + Blood Red.
Bone- More Bleached Bone to smoothn' it..
Golds- Highlight of Mith. Silver

Dunno why, but I like to do the metals at the very end..

Metals- Basecoat 50/50 Chaos Black + Boltgun Metal.
Boltgun Metal.
1st Highlight of Chainmail
Final Highlight of Mith. Silver.

Base:
Basecoat- Scorched Brown
Drybrush Codex Grey
Drybrush Fortress Grey
Drybrush Skull White and add some static grass..

50/50 chaos black + codex grey
30/70 chaos black + codex grey
Pure codex grey

What about the Blood Ravens insignia on the left shoulder pad? Aren't you going to paint that one too?

Not yet.. when I develop more of a steady hand. I have a got a step by step giude on painting it (thanks to unforgiven) so I know what to do but I don't wanna scew things up now. I might try and have a go at the symbol on a larger surface, possibly my dreadnought.

I think I remembered a tutorial on the Games Workshop UK site where they documented how they painted Blood Ravens from beginning to end and they also described how they painted the Blood Raven's insignia.

In the Space Marine Codex (Yes Blood Ravens are in the codex) in the color schemes section it says the color of the armour is red gore and the shoulder pads are bleached bone but yours works just as well.

Yeah! your my hero since The Blood Ravens are my fav chapter and I am starting one very very soon.

Note:I was waiting to improve my painting skills so I could make them Uber Jutice cause the best chapter needs the best painting job and effort.

and I am eager to see the guide on how to paint the logo. :D
