I didnt' want to hijack Thaum's thread with this, so I figured I'd start a new one...

I got a bunch of older games for Christmas, including the original Freespace and Wing Commander IV. Right now I'm playing them with mouse and keyboard, which in my personal opinion sucks large monkey buttocks.

Basically I'm looking for a good recommendation for a joystick that will work with those games. For example, I know that neither of them like my Intellimouse, so I'm thinking that USB devices are out of the question? Any ideas?

Also, is there anything I can do to get them to run adequately on my other system, which is an AMD 1ghz running WinXP...right now they kinda chop. Really, really badly.

Thanks a lot to anyone who replies...

my current joystick is a CH F-16 combatstick, (gameport, not USB). I have a feeling it's no longer in production, but if it is, I suspect it will work fine. I suggest, however, a more "lite" (and cheaper most likely) joystick, as this one is geared more towards flight sims (such as Jane's F/A-18) then space shooters. It does work perfectly fine with older games I have tried it with (X-Wing, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, Jane's Fighter's Anthology)

Also, be sure you have a gameport to plug any gameport devices into. I suspect some newer soundcards have dropped this feature, as no modern game devices use it.
