Two renders of Taiidan interceptors in a miniclaw. Enjoy.

choose between:
1280x1024, motion blur on (http://gideon.guidestone.com/misc/artwork/render05.jpg)

1280x1024, motion blur off (http://gideon.guidestone.com/misc/artwork/render06.jpg)

Renders done using 3ds max 4, volume lights, and videopost.

i was about to flame you and say "wtf? i could've taken a screenshot at 1600x1200 and added some motion blur to get the same thing - where's the skill?"

good job i only thought about it, and didn't write it...... ono!

lol..... nah, it's actually pretty cool Mol. especially the engine flare and the planet.

show me more!

Any chance you can render another one with the fighters coming at a more angular... angle?

Love the textures on the planet btw

gg molo... looks leat.

blur effect is kinda on that border between obvious and subtle... makes my eyes hurt even on 800x600. nice renderage skillz tho.

Okay, here comes some critisism.

The interceptors' shapes are not very well defined. The lack of contrast between the parts of the interceptor, the lack of strong lighting, and the busy texturing cause the problem (the texturing is fine, but without good lighting, they make the interceptors too busy-looking).

The star in the background appears dim. Even though it's at full brightness in the center, there is no glow or (gasp!) lens flare to convey a sense of strong brightness.

The way the planet is shaded implies that the star object is relatively close to the camera (the front face of the planet is getting some strong lighting). I assume the star is supposed to be quite far away, so change the lighting to reflect that. The edge of the planet toward the sun should get strong lighting, and most of the front face of the planet should get little or no lighting.

On the motion blue one, blur either the ships or the background- not both. If you blur both to the same degree, it implies that the objects were still and Mr. Cameraman just has extremely shaky hands.

Also the positioning of the ships seems a bit random and sloppy. Maybe put one or more interceptors close to the camera (to convey more depth) and/or place the interceptors in a formation.

Hope that's of any help.

but (omg i'm going to say it) i wasn't really looking for criticism. therefore I'll just respond to your points.

I know the ints aren't the best choice; they're basically just placeholders until i get around to extracting some other ships.

the sun is fine. i think so, irc in general thinks so, turn up your brightness/contrast, case closed.

the motion blur 'background' is not the background. please note that there are also stars; the blur is intended to be space debris. both the camera and the ships are moving, but at different speeds; that's why it gets the blur.

as for the placement, i believe i even said in my first post 'Two renders of Taiidan interceptors in a miniclaw. Enjoy.' the guys in irc were able to tell as well. maybe you spend too much time on the boards and not enough playing homeworld.

Um, well, I'll just say one thing.

If this was real life photograph, you won't really see a thing.

PS I find this to be a more accurate depiction of the Sun at an angle

Seems my criticism has been criticized.

Don't interceptors have only one gun?

Normal Interceptors are outfitted with two mass driver weapons. One on the side, another in the nose. This is a modded interceptor.

thats big ship is an ICC Dreadnaught, and the two little thingies is a warp gate, a Darkspace mod would look nicely in Homeworld
