Mosqueira told us that Company of Heroes is the first real-time strategy game that let him use all the tactics he had learned while serving as an infantryman in the Canadian army. That also includes the concept of retreating

Couldnt help reading that and wondering if that was a shot to the Canadien Army... :)

The game is sounding better and better everytime I read more info and I really hope that recorder is a reality as nobody ever seems to have one by final release.

My god the new multiplayer concept of, "live together, die together," wow. I love that new concept especially respawning of your partner. I think this is what teamplay really was made for, and Relic got the right idea to make such a new concept to the multiplayer gameplay. Also, I'm very into skirmish games with the AI at many strategy games, and I must say, I really would love to play these AI because god i swear that it is the like my dream come true. The example with Mosqueira and the US Army Rangers barricaded inside the building with a boozka trying to take out a tank in the road. They couldn't at first because the side the tank was on, there were no windows facing that way, but when another infranty squad missed with a bazooka blowing a hole in the wall where those Rangers were in, there was a opening with a clear shot at the tank. The AI realized this and took the opportunity to take out the tank. I want this game, and I want it now!! Sigh... lol oh well just gonna have to wait until fall.

this game is starting to look more and more immense as time goes on

He also says the graphics are scalable so you don't need ultra high specs, and native DX10 support for when I do have it. Also excited by the experiance also bringing options suuch as the instant replacement of American tanks...

Also you can build sandbags, barbed wire, mines and gun emplacements? :D

Mortars too :D

And large maps, and rocket artillery (or what looks like it)

:nana: Relic stop making me giddy!

I think its say that the Canadian army hasn't had to retreat so they never used that tactic.

Ontopic: I wants nows!

Hmm one thing I don't understand is how "airborne" and "infantry" can be distinct tech trees. Airborne are just infantry who got to Normandy in an innovative manner - I wonder how, and why, they differentiated the two.

Soldier of Dest
6th May 06, 4:39 AM
Will the tech trees have different units or just special abilities? For example if I take armor I still can build all infantry and tanks, right ?

Akranadas
6th May 06, 4:47 AM
Most likely, except your infantry would be weaker than someone who picked infantry

DatonKallandor

Fisher: Airborne has airstrikes, infantry has defensive emplacements.

The "Airborne" title is actually kinda misleading... I doubt paratroopers had more air support than others. Perhaps "Aircraft" would be a better name? The Infantry branch will probably let you have more troops, more armor and generally better defences. Airborne has scout planes, airstrikes and paratroopers and presumably, a lot more. :D

Dammit, this game looks promising. ;)

Both. The Commander Trees allow you to specialize your army, according to your preferred playing style. Also, they are designed to complement one another so if you're playing with one or two allies you can each pick a CT specialization and get a really well-rounded force that's adaptable to enemy tactics and behaviour over the course of the game.

It really creates dynamic battles, and there's a ton of cool, meaningful player choice.

Watched the video interview this time with the game clips a few times and all I can say is damn. I think this game will be the first to really represent a WWII setting visually. The german officer with a pistol let me know we should have them in game. Also just loved the physics engine was at work.

I was worried that it would be a more action oriented type game but seeing the defensive structures and knowing there will be other strategic concerns, team based MP, tech trees, I just cant wait!

The AIRBORNE were a seriously ELITE outfit, so this should translate ingame to... I don't know maybe you can do with one airborne squad what might take a tank and two squads of ordinary infantry?

DatonKallandor
6th May 06, 11:56 AM
Rangers are one of the high class elite infantry types.

Daton

Starfisher
6th May 06, 1:51 PM
The Airborne were well trained and motivated, sure, but that doesn't mean they should have magic tank killing abilities. They should maybe be better marksmen and higher morale, but nothing more than that - there should be no attempt to balance by saying "Unit X takes out 2 of Unit Y". It should be "Unit X has these attributes, which are better than Unit Y's". That way, with the dynamic battlefield, the better infantry has a better chance of coming out on top if used correctly - but will still get cut to pieces and owned if not used correctly.

Soldier of Dest
6th May 06, 4:43 PM
I quess the paratroopers are like upgraded infantry so they have more skills like better aiming etc. and are better against standart infantry.

They have to be better because they operate behind enemy lines. :salute:

Busby
6th May 06, 4:58 PM
Paratroopers were elite, but they lacked the equipment to be able to survive long term battles without support from the regular army.

Plus, infantry with no tank/artillery support vs infantry with support=supported infantry win.

LoneWolf666
7th May 06, 2:36 AM
I thought that paratrooper superiority was in their morale and tactics, not aim etc. Perhaps they will be faster, more effective in finding cover and generally better organised than regular infantry? Or maybe normal infantry should sport more heavy weapons like hmg's, bazookas, mortars and airborne should carry more lmg's, sniper rifles?

immortal44
7th May 06, 12:52 PM
the better infantry has a better chance of coming out on top

For once I'd like to see things happen randomly. Ie in games the better unit always wins in an even contest. Would be great to see a 'green' unit fight harder than what it 'should', or a supposedly veteran unit crumble. Introduce chance as a factor. I think they said that there was a 'chance to hit' in this game so that introduces some chance into the game.

Hmmmm... I look upon the teamplay emphasis with guarded optimism. On the one hand I think it is a great idea, and look forward to giving it a try. On the other, unless you are part of a good clan, team play can be a mixed experience. Well I guess time will tell. In any case I can't wait for the game!

So, like I said before, it stands to reason they'd be better marksmen and be more confident, hence better morale. They weren't superhuman. They were just better trained.

immortal44
8th May 06, 10:56 AM
Yep with the right players multiplayer could be an absolute blast. 3vs3 and 4vs4 in particular, 2 set up frontlines, the other set up reinforcements and attacks/raids. Coordinating attacks in sectors etc. This game really needs a headset.

I'm not sure about the resources, but it looks like they will be better than other games, particuarly having sectors produce different types of resources (makes it more strategic obviously).

I like the sound of a strategic map where you can oversee the battlefield, who controls what sector etc.

I say infantry for the win and I say go RANGERS!!! Always loved infantry in the games and I know I'll love them even more than ever in this game. While you have your tank rolling down the streets, I'll be in bushes, trees, trashcans, and sewers just waiting to ambush you MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I just want this game.... lol.

While you have your tank rolling down the streets, I'll be in bushes, trees, trashcans, and sewers just waiting to ambush you MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

And while my tanks keep you distracted, my snipers will take out your bazookas and my infantry will flank yours.

vsc714

Sniff... damn snipers.. YEA ill have my own and ill name him... Jackson OOOOoo... lol... Man so glad to see that snipers would be the way they're suppose to be, hard to see, and to find when a group of infantry is just walking down a street and suddenly one drops dead. God I already love this game.

LOL@Klaus!

Yeah, DoW doesnt really register anymore. I'm too excited about CoH.

I dont think i've looked this forward to a game ever, well perhaps Doom2 all those years ago but still, I'm pretty damn excited.

vsc714
9th May 06, 5:32 PM
I don't think I've ever been this obsessed with a game in my life, I mean I've been watching this for about a year now and I say it is going to be worth the wait. In fact I'm even more crazy about this game than any console system before and now. As much as I like the PS3, I would pick this game even over that, this game just means that much to me, its so crazy my god.

Mogolov
9th May 06, 5:35 PM
haha, i know the feeling mate. Ever since i read in the back of the DoW or was it the WA manual(i dont know!)i was interested so i immediately checked out the site because i knew it would be along the same lines if not better than DoW.

WW2 is my favourite era for combat games, good ole fashioned shoot outs, no cluster bombs or guided weapons, WW2 was where the real skill was at. ;)

Klaus88
9th May 06, 5:47 PM
*Sigh* Must... not... start... on... unrealated... rant...

There are a lot of things I want to say here but I'm not gonna rant. I am not gonna rant.

That statement about WWII requireing "Skills" and modern warfare doesn't is... very uninformed. VERY.

I can give you the names of a few books to read about the background if you like.

Ax3
9th May 06, 5:53 PM
*sigh* Must..... not ..... rant ..... about ....... Klaus .......not ....... ranting.....again

Mogolov
9th May 06, 6:05 PM
Sorry Klaus, I should have worded it better. I should have explained that modern warfare games compared to world war 2 games was what i meant.

As for the books, i have a few.;)

But lets not get into unrelated territory shall we? lol

Klaus88
9th May 06, 6:09 PM
Oh, uuuhhh

*takes foot out of mouth*

I'm sorry that was really uncalled for and REALLY stupid of me. But yeah... modern warfare games can be very boring when compared to WWII games

Tiresias
9th May 06, 6:15 PM
You still can't telephone the X-files, and each RTS should be judged on how interesting it is independant of it's era, especially since I can'tnormally stand WW2 games (HOW MANY DO WE HONESTLY NEED).

Mogolov
9th May 06, 6:49 PM
not your fault mate, if i'd been bothered enough to explain myself properly then we wouldnt have come to that lol.

Oh, btw, if someone was asking about tank sync kills, i found this in the interview on gamespot...

"You'll still create a rear base, which lets you summon reinforcements in the form of infantry squads and vehicles, as well as research various upgrades, such as sticky mines for infantry"

Lochar
9th May 06, 8:09 PM
I think thats why WW2 is so appealing as least to me. For one you dont have missles that travel from offscreen to blow a huge radius out of the ground, but it does have mechanized warfare at its beginning really not counting those iron boxes of WWI. Also with so many campaigns and fronts there can be desert, jungle, city, hilly, etc type maps.

I am glad Relic chose this timeline to introduce their new AI as it seems to fit perfectly with Urban and outdoor settings. Most previous wars had just the stand and shoot/charge mode and WWI had more trench warfare it seemed.

A ok
