View Full Version : Splitting of Squads - Possible or not?

Just a quick question regarding 'squad management'.

I know that during WW2, especially in built up areas, there were times when a squad would send a lone soldier ahead a few yards or around a corner to see what was going on, and to basically see if he got shot or not.

I'm just wondering if any option to drop someone from a squad, or alternatively, split a squad has been included?

I know its highly likely it hasnt, but maybe it might be an idea for a future patch perhaps...

Hm imagine a mod of splitting squads and then make new squads of your own (for example 1 bazooka, 1 hmg, 2 riflemen, 2 smg - the dreamteam! :bandit:)

i doubt it will be in the game, remember most of the squads are only 6 men anyway, and special troops move around in 1-3 from what ove seen

Would be cool if there is a squad behaviour that changes with different types of troops.

But that's why I'm not sure about if it's in the game :|

I thought in real life special troop squads had 4+ men in them since 4 is considered the minimum needed for the squad to be small enough to avoid detection yet large enough to last in a short firefight and remain effective if one member is injured.

As I was playing Blitzkrieg2, I realized one of the annoyances I had was the inability to merge my piecemail squads to form back a 12 person squad. So even if splitting was out, what about merging? Now I realize you will get reinforcments to fill the ranks again, but I think this is only if their back at base and in the field when you start having 1-2 man squads this option would help.

Also when checking for a sniper I was hoping we could send a lone man out to be sniper bait instead of risking a full squad. Or select a pointman at least to be outfront a bit.

my point exactly Lochar, i would rather waste one man to a sniper so i know where he was rather than send a whole squad upfront to get zapped.

but wouldent that just increase micro, sure its a nice idea but if they make it so useful that it is 'required' to play, then it would become micro hell and just remove fun

mmmm, yarsh! i do see your point mate, like was posted in another thread.

If the option is there then everyone will make use of it and thats all that will happen.

One guy will get sent out to get his head blown off so the player can call in the arty.

And i can see people doing that constantly now you mention it.

I think games should be like this: You can win without micro and micro is only a bonus. Micro shouldn't be a big changer like in dow (dancing) but just a small thing to save the odd soldier here and there.

Splitting squads would be nice, but isn't very important for me. More important would be to add a single man from a squad (1 of 6; 5 died) to a bigger squad.

Im pretty sure i heard that if a squad loses members you can go back to base and they reinforce, so I'm not sure if that's necessary.

Yes, but if you are on the other side of the map ? :loco:
And maybe you don't have so much time etc :heyhey:

Thats what I was thinking or for those out of supply situations where you cant reinforce.

Depending on how many squads a player will be controlling depends on how much extra micro a game would have for a split command.
But I think if they just had a formation command where 1 formation requires a point man then that may solve the issue.
