I personally prefer "Scenario Editors". Back in Starcraft days I made a hell of a lot of maps (mostly SP scenarios) and I still enjoy it to this day. I'd love to make a defence/last stand map for CoH, and map editors tend to bring a lot of joy for gamers and map makers alike. These days, however, map editors are complicated as hell and I have yet to make any sensible maps. :(

yeah a scenario/map editor would be really nice

As long as it is reasonably simple. Some maps have a high learning curve. i prefer maps where the basics are blindingly obvious and you slowly build up rather than being bombarded with all these things you need just to make 1 playable.

A map maker could be sweet, but as many people have said it should have a novice/expert switch.

In novice you could build stuff by just picking and droping it there, in some kind of mix between Garrys mod(HL2) and simcity for designing the geography and creatign a town.

In expert you could have complete control over textures, damage, scorch marks, detailed scenarios, ingame movies and game rules and such things that a kid buildign his town to battle in wont have to bother about.

yeah a nice map editor uses simple tools and does a lot automatically, such as decorate the map, generate a minimap and such.

I'd be very surprised if CoH doesnt have a map editor available (if not out the box then as part of mod tools to be released later).

As long as there is some sort of tutorial for how to use the editor I'm all for it! Though I do pretty well stink at 3D map design these days, things have evolved a lot from AOE 2.

And as long as it's easy to use :dunce:

In stronghold I could make some very nice maps but then i tried DoW and i'm like "waaah?" Suppose i never really bothered learning it to be honest but to me it doesn't seem very well laid out (just my oppinion and its probably wrong anyhow :p)

I'm relatively positive CoH is supposed to launch with a wide variety of modding tools, including a map maker. But don't forget, it'll be a lot more difficult to make CoH maps than it is to make maps for other games, as now you've got to factor in a completely destructable environment. We'll probably see a bunch of clever maps from experienced modders, but I bet people like myself with little-to-no experience will have a lot to learn :(

[/Sarcasm] Yeah I don't want a map editor to make new maps and I don't want people to make new maps at all.[/Sarcasm over]
Seriously why wouldn't we want a map editor? You could of made the poll about something like do you want a:
Simple but limited map editor
More complex but maps still able to made by most gamers
Very complex map editor mainly for the skilled map makers

Anyway yes I do want a map editor ;)

So? What does this have to do with a map editor? :D I imagine there will be a "Building editor" incorporated into the mapedit, so you can place a building on the map, then go to it's properties and then have a lot of options, including selecting which points have been damaged. It will also be possible to create craters etc. and even walls with an option if they are already destroyed or not. It is a more advanced feature, but you can still make a map without even using it. Just place premade buildings and leave their destruction to the players. ;)

But I still fear the level of complexity will scare many people off, myself included. :(

That's a good point, I wonder if Relic will allow the map editor to make makes that aren't fully destructable. Because making maps where users can fundementally alter the level and terrain make it more challenging to make a map that's fair to everyone.

Mapmaker is what keeps the fun and value into the game! Plus, mods make us all happy. With its increadible graphics and destructible stuff, mapmaking would be perfect.

I'm 99% sure that there will be a map/scenario editor. I dunno if they'll have simple and expert modes, but that would be a really nifty feature. Personally, I wanna make TRENCH WARFARE maps and then some with the sheer goal of leveling entire city blocks into rubble.

Like others have said mapmaking definitely keeps me interested with the game for a long period of time. With relics new engine I cant wait to get my hands on it
