Hello all!! :)

Welcome to my Painting Blood Ravens tutorial! Alrighty!
Materials needed in this tutorial will be listed at each and every post so keep your eye open! Reciepes will be posted on each update.

The model is a Veteran sergeant with a powerfist and a Test mini for my upcoming Blood Ravens army. Techniques that are covered in this tutorial will be:
-Basic Line highlighting with blending
-Metallics (Blending too)
-Gems/Lenses
-Freehand
Hmm..Shall I name the rest? I dont think so! :P (theres more later on)

Alrighty! First Subject today! RED ARMOUR

Materials needed:
- A Paintbrush (Size 00, 000, or whichever you fancy)
- Dark flesh
- Brown ink or chestnuk ink
- Blood red
- Dwarf flesh
- Red ink

*Important* If you get a bit messy on the highlighting stages use brown or chestnut ink to reblend or blackline the areas that are within the shadows (ex. The deep crevices underneath the top of the kneepad).
Also Important! THIN YOUR PAINTS

Alrighty!
Firstly PRIME BLACK!

Phase 1
Step 1
Apply Dark flesh all over the armour (Do not worry about crevices)

Step 2
Apply Chestnuk ink or brown ink thinned with a tiny bit of water all over the armour.

Step 3
Mix a bottle of 50-50 Dark flesh and blood red (MUCH easier than mixing all the time). This is you main armour colour. Apply this to every area of armour on the mini but leaving the crevices chestnut ink and dark flesh.

This is the end result of Step 1,2, & 3.

Phase 2 HIGHLIGHTING!!
Step 4
Highlight the edges of the armour with Blood red.

Step 5
Highlight the edges of the armour with Blood red mixed with a tiny bit of dwarf flesh (3parts Blood red to 1part Dwarf flesh), but leaving some of the previous colour showing (Blood red).

This is the end result of Step 4 and 5

Step 6
Again Highlight the upper edges of the armour with 2parts Blood red to 1part Dwarf flesh, but leaving some of the previous colour showing (Blood red and Dwarf flesh mixture).

Step 7
FINAL HIGHLIGHT! Highlight the top edges of the armour with 1part Blood red to 1part Dwarf flesh, but leaving some of the previous colour showing (Blood red and Dwarf flesh mixture).

Step 8 GLAZING!
Glazing is like an ink wash, but different. Glazes are thinner than inks thus this is why you thin the colour or ink you are using
Thin down red ink with 8 parts water to 1 part red ink, and from their apply it to the red armour. Leave it to dry and volia red armour is finished.

This is the end result of Steps 6,7 & 8.

And there you have it! The red armour is completed.

Points to note:
- Paitence is the key to painting successfully.
- Always thin down paints in order to get a smooth coverage.
- Paint using the tip of brush, not sides of the brush or so, which will give you thick/large brushstrokes.

Anyways Next up are Metallics, which hopefully this Thursday evening since Ihave an exam on Thursday morning!

Till Then!

Nicely done. I think you could have done a little bit more highlighting with the eyes though. Eyes are the hardest part for me. Thats why I usually do faces. I just learned how to do faces from silvertabby, :eye:look it up, its really good.

Do you have a full army painted that way ( if so post the pics)?
also I was wondering if it would make any difference if you used ogryn flesh wash as apposed to the chestnut ink?
