My friend and I were recently discussing the HW2 preview movie and we started to wonder if doing similar movies out of HW/HW:C is possible. What software would you need to turn an in game recording into a movie file?? If it's at all possible of course...

If you got any ideas please post them... thx :)

Relic and (what used to be) Barking Dog prolly have the movies stored away on CD or DVD somewhere, in the original format they were created in (i.e. playable on a comp). Thus, all you have to do is get your hands on those files... yeah right!

Anyhow, when Relic/BD put the movies into the games, the filesizes were WAAAY to large to fit all the movies on a single CD... so they used a tool called Bink (http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm) to compress the movies down to a more reasonable size, and created files with a .bik extension.

Thus, theoretically, all you need is to create a program that will convert those .bik files to .avi files, playable in any media player - or you could write a program that simply uses the binkw32.dll file in your HW or Cata folder (that's the file that actually allows the HW engine to playback the movies).

Since I don't think Delphy's yet coded a tool that can do quite what you want, you can either (a) wait for him to create one, (b) write one yourself, or (c) stick to watching the movies from within HW or Cata.

None of those links work... Artoo, if I understand correctly, you just wanna convert the HW/Cata movies to a format playable on your PC, right?

If so, then you need a movie-capturing prog to run in the background while you're playing HW/Cata. Then, when a movie you want comes up, you hit a hotkey to start recording.

I dunno of any such program, but a Google search should turn something up. Good luck!
